Review: Awkward Holidays by Kallysten

Title: Awkward Holidays
Series: Ward of the Vampire, Book 3
Author: Kallysten
Published: July 2013
Format: Ebook received for review

Trapped in the Ward mansion with a reluctant and standoffish host – a vampire she should be afraid of but can’t help being attracted to – Angelina is preparing herself for grim, lonely holidays.

When her parents unexpectedly decide to visit, the situation, far from improving, only grows more complicated. They look forward to visiting New York with her, but how can she explain that she’s unable to leave the mansion? For that matter, what will they say when they realize she lives with a millionaire?

A hastily concocted excuse smoothes things over, but now Angelina finds herself having to work closely with Morgan Ward. It wouldn’t be so bad if Morgan was as pleasant to her as he is to her parents, but his mercurial moods leave her confused and frustrated. It doesn’t help that he seems no closer to finding a way for her to leave his house.

The New Year brings change with a startling kiss and an even more surprising guest… or is it more of the same?

Ok, here we are – third installment in the Ward of The Vampire series. Kallysten – you are positively killing me!! As much as the excitement of waiting for the next edition to appear is, it’s also just killing me to make me wait!

Quote-Tastic - In Flames (Jessica Jayne)

I'm a little late with today's post - but better late than never! I've been moving this week, and my reading has fallen behind - which left me without many quotes to choose from! But last night I started reading In Flames by Jessica Jayne, and I'm burning through it like nothing.  Fabulous story with all kinds of conflicting emotions, and lots of HOT sex.  I mean HOT.  Whew!  Good thing the hero is a firefighter, cause I'm gonna need to be hosed off!

Review: White Trash Beautiful by Teresa Mummert

Title: White Trash Beautiful
Series: White Trash Trilogy, Book 1
Author: Teresa Mummert
Published:  July 2013
Format: Galley

Cass Daniels isn’t waiting for her knight in shining armor. She knows that girls like her don’t get a happily ever after. Not if you live in a trailer with your mom, work at a greasy spoon diner, and get leered at by old men. Maybe that’s why she puts up with Jackson—her poor excuse for a boyfriend, who treats her like dirt. Cass has learned to accept her lot in life. That is, until he walks into her diner. . . .

His name is Tucker White, and he’s different from any man Cass has ever known. Tall, tattooed, and bad-ass gorgeous, he’s the lead singer of the rock band Damaged. From the moment they meet, Tucker sees something in Cass he just can’t shake. Something beautiful. Something haunted. Something special. And he’s determined to find out what it is—if only he can get her to open up and let him in. . . .

I picked up White Trash Beautiful as a galley, and I am so glad I did! I don’t know if this was one of my very favorite reads, but it certainly was a great read!  I found it to be an emotional story full of hope, love, fear, and despair.

Title: On Display

Author: Cassandra Carr
Published: July 2013, Ellora's Cave
Format: Ebook received for review

Hunter wants Olivia, and the feeling is mutual. She decides to take her secret attraction public and show up at the club where he’s bouncing, ready to lay everything on the line to snag him. Hunter can’t believe his luck, and soon makes his own move on the woman he’s lusted after for months. Things heat up between them during an exciting—and exhibitionist—evening that leaves them both anticipating more sexy times to come.

An Exotika® contemporary erotica story from Ellora’s Cave

Someday I am going to write Cassandra Carr a love note. She has made me a fangirl time and again, and I have to wonder if she will ever put out something that isn’t awesome. I’m not looking at her stuff with rose colored glasses. She definitely has titles that I’ve enjoyed more than others. But lets give credit where credit is due, ok? OK.

Review/Giveaway: From This Moment On by Bella Andre

Title: From This Moment On
Series: The Sullivans #2
Author: Bella Andre
Published: Aug 2011
Format: Print copy provided by Media Muscle

For thirty-six years, Marcus Sullivan has been the responsible older brother, stepping in to take care of his seven siblings after their father died when they were children. But when the perfectly ordered future he's planned for himself turns out to be nothing but a lie, Marcus needs one reckless night to shake free from it all.

Nicola Harding is known throughout the world by only one name - Nico - for her catchy, sensual pop songs. Only, what no one knows about the twenty-five year old singer is that her sex-kitten image is totally false. After a terrible betrayal by a man who loved fame far more than he ever loved her, she vows not to let anyone else get close enough to find out who she really is...or hurt her again. Especially not the gorgeous stranger she meets at a nightclub, even though the hunger - and the sinful promises - in his dark eyes make her want to spill all her secrets.

One night is all Nicola and Marcus agree to share with each other. But nothing goes as they plan when instead of simply tangling limbs, they find a deeper connection than either of them could have anticipated. And even though they both try to fight it, growing emotions - and sizzling attraction - keep drawing them closer together.

Close enough for them to wonder if stealing one more secret moment together can ever be enough?

I am so falling for the Sullivan men. Seriously – what is not to love? In The Look Of Love we met Chase, and whew, I thought he was fantastic. I didn’t think it could get better than him and his bathroom sneaking antics. My friend, Anna @ Herding Cats & Burning Soup told me I would love Marcus. I didn’t believe her, I was firmly a Chase girl. But here I am, fallen for Marcus. In fact, I read this book so fast I barely took any notes.

With humor and a just a touch of sassiness, Priscilla finds herself facing her own truth and she may be surprised at what she discovers.

For this tour, I picked a review – and I went out of my comfort zone. I've never read christian fiction, but I thought I'd give it a try. And this book? Well, it isn’t exactly my favorite book. It wasn’t horrible - don’t get me wrong. It just didn’t click with me the whole way through the way I had hoped it would.

Interview with Heather Hildenbrand, author of Imitation

Imitation
Heather Hildenbrand

Everyone is exactly like me.
There is no one like me.
The rough fabric of my cotton nightgown chafes so I lie very still. They say my discomfort comes from being built like one accustomed to niceties. How is that fair when I myself have never experienced anything but copies of the real thing?
My entire life is an imitation.
I am an Imitation.
I’ve been here five years. Training. Preparing. Waiting.
And now I have a letter.
My assignment has begun.
I am a prisoner.
I am not Raven Rogen.
I am here to die.

I'm super excited for this book!!!  Today I am lucky enough to have author, Heather Hildenbrand, here for an interview.  And then later this month I'll be reviewing Imitation for you!  Enjoy the interview!

Review: The Thing About Weres by Leigh Evans

Title: The Thing About Weres
Series: Mystwalker #2
Author: Leigh Evans
Published: July 30, St. Martins
Format: NetGalley ebook

THE HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER

In the never-ending saga that is my love-hate relationship with Robson Trowbridge, I, half-Were Hedi Peacock, have had a change of heart. Ever since I shoved Trowbridge through the Gates of Merenwyn, I’ve been the leader of the pack—hard to believe, right? The thing is: I’m half-Fae. So even though my Were side is ready to heed the call of the wild, the other part of me is desperate to take flight. And much as it pains me to admit it, life without Trowbridge is really starting to were me down…

I AM WERE, HEAR ME ROAR.

To make matters worse, the wolves of Creemore want my blood—and the North American Council of Weres wants me dead. So I’m just counting the days until Trowbridge returns from the other realm…and comes to my brave rescue…and becomes my alpha mate. Wishful thinking? Of course it is. But given all the mess I’ve been through already, what’s the harm in doing a little bit of daisy-plucking? Besides, Trowbridge owes me bigtime. A girl can dream.

The Thing About Weres… wow, interesting book. There was a lot that happens in this book, and some of it was very hard for me to follow. The Thing About Weres is book two in the Mystwalker series, and I definitely don’t think it is a standalone. Sure, I plodded my way through, and was able to pick up on most things. But there were some definite issues that I felt were probably explained in book one, relationships that had already been established, that just left me floundering in book two. I definitely think I would have liked this book much more if I had that background information.

Review: Black Moon by Holly Hood

Title: Black Moon
Series: Ink #3
Author: Holly Hood
Published: July 13, 2013
Format: Ebook provided for review

Slade saved her life...
but none of that matters anymore...

Torn between her love for Slade and her own existence, Hope has to fight to keep one while battling to save the other. They say it all falls apart in the end. Walking away isn’t always easy.

Hope believed in Slade…

Can their love survive or will it all just fall apart?

Oh, this series is something else. I’ve recently read the third book, Black Moon,  in the Ink series, and while I ended up loving it, I didn’t start out that way. That is also the way that book two, Twisted Magic, went down for me. But I love this series, I really do. I’ll try to keep this as spoiler free as possible, but it is going to be hard!

First – let me say I hate Angeline Kace. What? Yep. I do. Why? Cause now she has me totally invested in this kick ass series – and the third book is not out yet! When Enemy Within ended, and I realized I had just read the last page, I felt like the guy in the movies who falls to his knees in the rain and screams toward the sky in agony. I even clicked my kindle page forward/backward buttons a few times, trying to will more words to appear. It didn’t work. So yeah, sorry Angeline Kace, but I hate you now.

Review: Descended By Blood by Angeline Kace

Title: Descended By Blood
Series: Vampire Born, Book 1
Author: Angeline Kace
Published: 2011 Accendo Press
Format: personal purchase

Brooke Keller is a high school junior who has never spent much time living in one place. She is finally in a town long enough to almost snag the boy of her dreams, until her life is threatened after killing a fanged man in his attempt to kidnap her. Brooke begins a dangerous journey in an effort to find out who is after her and how to stop them. In a world with powerful and prejudiced vampires, Brooke must tap into the side of her that she never knew existed at the risk of losing her life in order to save it.

I’ve had this book on my kindle for I don’t know how long. A long time. It’s always been one of those, “I will get to it when I can” books, even though I’ve seen rave reviews about it from other bloggers I follow. Then an opportunity came up to review the second book in this series, and so I had to start on the first one. I’ll be honest – I’d estimate that in the first third of this book or so I had thought about DNF’ing it. There were some parts that seemed a bit cheesy, and I thought it read a bit younger than I really was in the mood for.

In late 2011 I read a book called Ink, by Holly Hood. I fell in love with that book, and Slade and Hope.  I touted this book to everyone who would listen. Quote-Tastic: Being Me

I love Mondays.  Not because I get to go back to work, cause that would be insane.  Not because it is the most hated day of the week, and I feel bad for it.  Not because The Bangles think they are Manic... but because of Quote-Tastic.

Review: If I Were You by Lisa Renee Jones

Title: If I Were You
Series: Inside Out Book 1
Author: Lisa Renee Jones
Published: 2012

When Sara McMillan finds a stack of journals in a storage unit, she’s shocked and enthralled by the erotic life the writer led. Unable to stop reading, she vicariously lives out dark fantasies through Rebecca, the writer—until the terrifying final entry.

Certain something sinister has happened, Sara sets out to discover the facts, immersing herself in Rebecca’s life. Soon she’s working at the art gallery Rebecca worked at and meeting Rebecca’s friends. Finding herself drawn to two dangerously sexy men, the manager of the gallery and a famed artist, Sara realizes she’s going down the same path Rebecca took. But with the promise of her dark needs being met by a man with confident good looks and a desire for control, she’s not sure anything else matters. Just the burn for more.

My intentions with the Inside Out series were to read If I Were You, then review it, then read Being Me and review it for an upcoming tour date. Well, that didn’t happen. I read the first book, and couldn’t even look at another book until I finished Being Me. I can totally see what is so captivating about this series that has everyone on edge waiting for the next installment.

Fantasies become reality at the threshold of Le Club d'Esclavage. Dani Miller is the kind of girl who does her best to make everyone happy. When it's her turn to give the orders, the hunky bouncer at Le Club E'sclavage is just the man to follow her. When the two discover passion that creates the perfect bonds, the orders given by the right man can be the sweetest treat to savour. Content Warning: Warning, this title contains the following: graphic language, explicit sex, bondage, mastery, the use of sex toys, and nontraditional sexuality.

Review: A Toy For Two by Jennifer Cole

Title: A Toy for Two
Series: Le Club d'Esclavage, Book 2
Author: Jennifer Cole
Published: March 2009, Lyrical Press
Format: Ebook received for review from publisher

Will Megan play it safe, or follow her heart and become a toy for two?

Megan Washington is the perfect daughter...as long as she keeps her wild streak hidden. Only after a trip to the Le Club d'Esclavage does she give free reign to her sexually adventurous spirit.

Troy Simon and Ransom Seager need the ideal partner, and not just any submissive will do. Their third must match their passions and indulge in the roleplay both men find so arousing. With trust building and temperatures rising, will Megan's powerful politician father destroy the growing bond between these three hearts?

Ok, today’s review is for A Toy For Two, which was my favorite of the three books. Yesterday’s review focused on Natalie, who met the masked man of her dreams at the Le Club d’Esclavage, and A Toy For Two focuses on Megan… And Troy… And Ransom. Yeah, now you are seeing why I liked it, I know.

Review: At The Dungeon Master's Hand by Jennifer Cole

Title: At The Dungeon Master's Hand
Series: Le Club d'Esclavage, Book 1
Author: Jennifer Cole
Published: August 2008, Lyrical Press
Format: Ebook received for review from publisher

Fantasies begin at the threshold of Le Club d'Esclavage
Natalie Buchanan has been working non-stop for six weeks. Determined to enjoy a rare weekend off, she winds up at the mysterious Le Club d'Esclavage.
Natalie had read about the bondage club, and although she'd been mildly curious about submissive pleasures, she never imagined she'd set foot inside. And now that she has, the erotic atmosphere of domination and submission sends her scrambling for the exit.

Before she can escape, she's approached by a leather-hooded, bare-chested man who whispers a deep, sultry, "You are mine..."

Warning: this title contains the following, explicit sex, graphic language, bondage, BDSM, use of sex toys, anal sex.

So when I started reading this book, for some reason I didn’t realize it was part of a trilogy. And on top of that, I didn’t realize I had all three books. You can not even imagine the joy I had once I discovered both of those points!

Jill Adgate wants three things from life: a successful catering business, a family, and the love of an exceptional man. What she has is no job, a mounting pile of bills, and her outspoken best friend—who sets her up on a blind date with the man who inadvertently ruined Jill’s life.

Chet Castle is a businessman who has everything, except the ability to trust. Burned by a money-hungry fiancée, he refuses to get involved in any relationship that has a shelf life longer than a head of lettuce.

Intrigued by her ambition—and determined to get her in bed—Chet offers Jill the chance of a lifetime: work as his live-in chef and he’ll help her get her catering business off the ground. When sparks fly in the kitchen, Jill realizes what’s cooking is a recipe for disaster…

I tend to get excited when a local author comes up for review, so when I got a chance to read Bachelor’s Special – even though it really isn’t one of my normal genres – I jumped at it. I was pleasantly surprised to find a funny, snarky, and romantic story within this book.

Cover Reveal: Ravenous by Eden Summers

She’s a small town caterer, he’s a big city chef, but they don’t need a kitchen to make things sizzle...

Erin McDonald likes her simple life in her small town: no drama, no fuss, no uncertainty...until Jesse Hackett breezes back into town. Erin never quite got over how he left for the bright lights of the big city, and took her heart with him.

Jesse never regretted his decision to leave small town life behind and chase his big city dreams, but he’s always regretted leaving Erin behind. No woman has ever compared, and once he convinces Erin to let him touch her again, he’s never going to let her go.

Sparks fly and fires are rekindled, but the basic divide still remains: what really matters in life — location or love?
