She soon learns there is a side of Slade and magic that she wishes she never knew existed.

Soon she is battling a coven, and her own personal life.

Should she stay true to the girl she always was or take a chance with the greatest guy she ever met?

This new life could turn her into something evil; she has to decide if it is worth it.

In late 2011 I read a book called Ink, by Holly Hood. I fell in love with that book, and Slade and Hope.  I touted this book to everyone who would listen. I was new to blogging, and new to YA/PNR, but I knew this book had something special. Now I’ve had the pleasure of reading book two in the Ink series, Twisted Magic.

Twisted Magic starts with Hope coming home from college, after being gone for a year. To me, she felt like a completely different character than in Ink. Sure, now she is a witch. But in the past year she has gained almost no skill in being a witch. She says she has talked to her boyfriend, Slade, every day – but yet has no idea that he is in jail or that his family has moved. These things really kind of bugged me because I was so into Slade and Hope, I didn’t want any ripples. So when things aren’t as peachy as they seem, Hope becomes wary of where their relationship actually stands.

So Hope is a bit depressed, and a bit whiney, where before I felt she was lighthearted and well, falling in love. This is all pretty understandable to me. What isn’t understandable is the way Slade was treating her. This is a guy who professed his love in book one, and now he is acting like… well, an asshole. Yep, I said it. Slade is an asshole. He was this cool and mysterious guy, and he loved Hope. And now he is acting like she doesn’t exist half the time, and giving her attitude the other half.

And why? Audrey. That little witch. No seriously, she’s a witch – in every sense of the word. This bitch has an axe to grind, and it is going to come in between Hope and Slade. What I couldn’t figure out is why in the hell Slade was going along with it all. Audrey didn’t seem his type at all. But at this point he had pissed me off to the point that I didn’t even want him around Hope. So when Hope meets Hutch, I’m so happy.

Hutch is more than meets the eye. And he has a thing for Hope, and I have a thing for him. So builds this little triangle… square, if you include Audrey, I guess. In my opinion, I want this to be the Hutch and Hope show, and let those dark witches sort it out amongst themselves. But Hope has troubles letting go of her first love. The flirtation and getting to know you stage with Hope and Hutch is light and fun, and I’m hoping with everything she chooses him. Slade has done enough to tarnish my opinion of him, and I don’t think he deserves her.

This book wasn’t over-run with action scenes. There was a lot of drama, and a lot of Hope trying to figure out what the hell was going on with Slade and Audrey. In the end, things really started to fire up, and it did leave me with a bit of a cliffhanger. I do have to say that by the end, I felt like I was back in step with all of the characters, burning through the pages as fast as I could. I’m anxiously waiting for my chance to read book three, Black Moon -which is lucky for me, cause it is in a couple days!
