Review: C791 by Eve Langlais

Title: C791
Series: Cyborgs: More Than Machines #1
Author: Eve Langlais
Tour: No
Published: February 2012
Format: Ebook provided by author for review

Machines aren't supposed to feel, but this cyborg can't help falling in love.Assigned as a specimen collector for a captured cyborg, Chloe is intrigued by the machine disguised as a man. Kidnapped during his daring escape, he shows her that despite the chip in his brain, his humanity is not completely lost.Formerly known as unit X109GI, Joe is on a quest to discover his origin. While he doesn't find the answers he's looking for, he does discover that affection and lust aren't just for humans. But when it comes to a battle between logic and love, which side will the cybernetic organism-once a man-choose?Evaluating his feelings will have to wait though because the military isn't done with Joe. But their threats against him pale in comparison before the shocking discovery of project C791, the revelation of which stuns the rebel cyborgs-and ignites a fury for vengeance.

Well well well, this book is definitely something else. I’ve been trying to think if I have ever read a cyborg romance – I can’t say I have. At first I was hesitant about this book. I mean, sure, its Eve Langlais and she is an authorical (new word I’m inventing) genius, but cyborgs? Hot steamy love? I wasn’t buying it. And what do I think now? Bought!!! I loved it!!

“As for the screamed directive to march their metal asses out into space? In the words of the mechanic who repaired his arm, “Like fuck.””

The order came in. Destroy all cyborgs. But one is a self-realized cyborg, and he wasn’t going to go down – or out – without a fight. And he wasn’t alone. Y999SK also was aware. And they were going to help others achieve this awareness…. Just as soon as they escaped imminent doom.

I dare say this book was a bit different from the other books I’ve read from Eve. I mean, it was hot as heck, that’s for sure. It had humor in it too, definitely something I look forward to. There was action, check! The lead woman, Chloe, isn’t as snarky as some of the other leading ladies. She doesn’t have the quick comebacks and sharp tongue. But I still liked her. I felt like she was coming into her own while she was on this new assignment to collect samples from the hot cyborg below ground. And woman empowerment is something I can always stand behind.

“He’d allow her tantrum this time. But, in the future, he’d have to explain to her she wasn’t to look sad because he didn’t like it. It made him uncomfortable, which he found completely unacceptable. Of course, he wasn’t quite sure how he’d stop her from acting in that manner, but surely he’d find a way. He set his neuralnet to looking for an answer as he continued to kiss her.”

Then we have the cyborg….er, Joe….er, X109GI. Ok, I’ll stick with Joe. Joe is something else entirely. It was really interesting to be in his head and hear his cyborg thoughts. I can only imagine that added difficulty to try and robotize your writing voice. In either case this man-droid was superb. Definitely alpha hero worthy, with an added bonus of never ending stamina and perfect knowledge of pleasuring a woman. Now I just need to find out where to get me one… seriously, does anyone know where?

At first I was pretty surprised at how brutally these cyborgs were portrayed. Leave it to the government to spill the facts in their own fashion. But once you get to know them, and understand their plight, you’ll be cursing the human race too. Or at least the government…that is if you aren’t already.

Overall my vote says this book was exciting. The big secret is that ….ha! no, I’m not telling. But I totally didn’t see it coming! Suffice it to say it is awesome and an even awesomer lead in for a series. I just loved how these two characters interacted with eachother, the easy camaraderie Joe has with his other android friends. Everything rolled together seamlessly. Even definitely found the perfect balance of erotic romance, sci fi, and mystery. I already have F814 up on deck to read very shortly, and I can’t wait to get to it!

Have you read C791? What did you think?

Review: Kindred by Nicola Claire

Title: Kindred
Series: Kindred #1
Author: Nicola Claire
Published: May 2012
Tour: No
Format: Ebook provided by author for review

“You may not be aware, ma douce, but not all vampyre have a kindred, some will live out their existence without such beauty in their lives. I have waited five hundred years for you."

Vampires, shape shifters, ghouls and magic users abound in a world where the Norms, (those humans without paranormal abilities) are ignorant of the creatures of the night and the supernatural species that live alongside them.

Lucinda Monk is a bank teller by day and a vampire hunter by night, but she wasn’t always a part of this world. Thrown into a heady mix of powerful people and sensual beings, she’s had to find her way practically blindfolded in amongst the creatures of the night. But she’s a capable and realistic kind of girl. Her motto: never show fear. But, there's something different about Lucinda, something those creatures she hunts, want. In order to stay one step ahead of the enemy she has to let the enemy in. In all his compelling, seductive and delicious ways. Sleeping with the enemy has never meant so much before. But, can she trust him?

From the urban streets of the city, to the dark alleys and sinful bars that promise a wickedness a girl from the farm has never before been exposed to, Lucinda gets drawn irreversibly into the dark side of life. And if the Master of the City had his way, she would always be his. For eternity.

I have just one complaint about this book – the cover. It makes me think some romcom type fantasy will be inside. It doesn’t lend anything to the real story (which is awesome) within. With that said, every other single part of this book was terrific. When I go to cross post on the sites with ratings, its getting a 5 star review.

“Hunters have been preyed upon for centuries, my dear. It’s nothing new.”

In a world where vampires have power that is tangible, Lucinda (a name I love, btw) is a kickass vampire hunter in New Zealand. She’s got the kickass style, the attitude, the quick comebacks. And a Master Vampire in her corner, which she is only just realizing exactly what that means. She is tough and strong, both in body and mind. She is fighting for the greater good. With most characters their likeability factor with me can ebb and flow, but with Lucinda I was totally into her the entire way through.

The Master vampire in her corner is Michel, and yes, he’s hot and French. In the beginning he is very diplomatic to Luce, and I couldn’t quite figure out why. I mean here they were having meetings and speaking, and I couldn’t figure out why she wasn’t staking him. Sure, she had some buried attraction to him, and he is a level one master who’d probably clean the floor with her if she tried… but still. It wasn’t long before everything became clear. And Michel, well, he is all types of wonderful. I really loved his character. Again, the same with Luce, I never found a spot in this book when I wanted to say I didn’t like him.

And then there is something coming along to bring these two characters together in a way that will make them inseparable, and liable for eachother. I am not going to get too in depth on that because its not listed in the blurb. But it really is the main focus of the book. Nosferatu and Nosferatin. It was an amazing and unique twist, and its results were literally breathtaking when Michel and Luce would give in to their base needs. And good luck for us, it was often. The two of them together felt so right and magical, it was absolutely the biggest draw in the book for me, personally.

This book has a lot of action. I mean seriously, a lot. Some of it was chemistry, some was sexual heat, and a lot of it was good ol fashion battle action. A lot of things happened in these pages. There are several kidnappings, a friendship in danger, and a budding romance that is all consuming. I was excited through every page, no skimming or reading fast through this one. Every page had something new and exciting. Of course I adored the main characters, but the secondary characters that came and went, or stayed, were all fantastic and lively. The world Nicola Claire has created in Auckland, New Zealand is really wonderful. I definitely recommend this book, and I think you need to read it!! Looking on Goodreads, I can see this series is up to book eight, so I am very far behind. But I am definitely going to read every book in this series – its that good.

Today I have Tobi from Forget The  Housework, I'm Reading... along with a $5 gift card prize!  Prize is international as long as you can accept a gift card from your choice of Amazon or B&N!

********************************

Hey Tobi!! How’s it going? Thanks for joining me today!
Thanks so much for having me!

For the readers out there who may not have heard of your blog, can you tell us a little bit about Forget The Housework, I’m Reading?
It's a blog where I'm the main reviewer but it's open to other mom's who love to read and would like to post a review. My ratings are based on distraction from housework etc....... I use Laundry baskets

What do you think is the most awesome thing about being a book blogger…..and what is the worse-tastic thing? Yes, I’m allowed to make up words.
BEST would be meeting all the amazing people! Authors other bloggers and readers. I LOVE it!
Worse-tastic......I guess when I get behind. I hate that but you know life happens and my readers are COMPLETELY forgiving. I explain what's going on. I'm a totally open book!

And what does Ms. Tobi do when she isn’t blogging?
I'm taking care of my amazing 3 boys ages 5 and twin 2 year olds. That and I work in retail pt nights and weekends and also have an online job.

Now Tobi, I rule the world. I’ve put you into a white room with no windows and no doors. What book sits on the table?
Oh man! That's a toughie! Just one?????
Is there a Harry Potter omnibus?
That or ANY book by Tonya Kappes. Her books are my go to feel good books when I just need something wonderful and sweet but a little mystery.

Ok, let me dial it back a bit before every one thinks I might be losing it. Do you participate in memes or tours? Do you have any favorites that you can share with us?
No memes. I haven't quite figured those out yet.
I do participate in some tours, not many but some.
I participate in several companies IO book tours and ABG I like those and Reader's Addiction Blog tours

Is there any book (or series) that you just wish would be made into a movie?
A ton really.
A Magical Cure Series by Tonya Kappes (addicted yes I know but seriously if you LOVE Cozy Mysteries you need to check out her books! <3 o:p="o:p">

Dancing Naked in Dixie by Lauren Clark
Deadly Trilogy by Alexa Grace
OhOHOH! The ReVamped, ReAwakened by Ada Adams
Man, we could be here forever so I'll leave it with those.....LOL

And are you an ereader girl or a print book girl?
BOTH! I love my eBooks! They're affordable for the most part. However, if an eBook is the same price or more than the print I'm all print baby! LOL I refuse to pay more than $7.99 for an eBook. So, then I would definitely by print.
As far as print I LOVE the smell of books and I love having signed copies. My collection is slowly growing.

Now that you’ve been blogging for a bit, do you have any advice for newbies?
If there's a book you want to read contact the author check their blog page and see how to request a copy. Some will say yes some will say no and some will send you to their publisher. It NEVER hurts to ask. Usually on their contact page they tell you how they would like you to do this.

Make friends with other bloggers! I was lucky enough to meet you and a few others that have given me great tips and helped me along the way. Thank you to you and the others! (Awww! Thanks!)

I just gave you a book. You hated it. What do you do?
I'll write a review. That's how I started! I had a book and it aggravated the poop out of me had so much potential but ended too easily. So, I started a blog. If I don't like it I always try to put a positive spin on it somehow. Like, with this particular book I believe I said had a great story line but forgiveness came to easy. Does that make sense?

Tobi, inquiring minds want to know: What is your favorite social media outlet, and why?
I LOVE Facebook. I can follow and interact with other bloggers in groups and also authors on their pages etc........
I like twitter but it's harder to follow sometimes.

And lastly, can you share a little tidbit from a current read?
So, the day I'm answering this I honestly can't. I'll tell you it's a fun read. But it's a Secret Agent P matter and the author and publisher might kill me if I say much more! ;)

Thanks Tobi!! It’s been a blast having you over to my place for a bit J Don’t be a stranger!
Thanks for having me! I've had fun! I'd love to come back anytime you have a spot! <3 o:p="o:p">

Excerpt and Giveaway - Angelfire by Hanna Peach

Angelfire
Dark Angel, #1
Hanna Peach

An army of angels walk among us. They have kept us safe and ignorant, so far.

Earthbound for centuries and ruled by the Elders, they have established hidden cities, a society and The Code: obey your Elders, kill all demons, eliminate Rogue-angels, protect the mortals, remain hidden. Their warriors are the ungifted earthborn angels armed with blades and the ‘borrowed magics’ of distilled angel-blood tattoos.

Alyxandria is a young warrior with a fondness for customized knives and illegal night-races. If only she could overcome the taint of her parents who abandoned her to become Rogues.

When Alyx saves Israel, a gifted mortal with a past, she is forbidden to see him again. But she can’t help herself, drawn to him through their Guardian-bond, an ancient and long-forgotten bond; if he dies, she dies.

An encounter with a handsome Rogue leaves Alyx questioning all she has been taught to believe. Alyx begins to dig into the Elders’ secrets. Two thousand years of secrets that begin with the death of the Archangel Raphael. She is not prepared when she uncovers an Elder’s dark plan.

Somewhere on earth is a key to unlock hell. Somewhere on earth are pieces of an amulet that controls Lucifer and his army. Somehow Israel is the link and now both sides are after him. Who can Alyx trust when Good and Evil is no longer clear?

The war for earth begins.
**Excerpt**

“This is going to sound crazy.” She presses her palm to her forehead.

He laughs softly. “Remember who you’re talking too.”

“Right,” she says. “I think it’s time I admitted some things to you. But you have to promise not to freak out or get angry before I finish, okay?”

“Okay.”

“Remember the last time we met, you asked me how I happened to come by the alley in time to save your life…”

“A lucky coincidence.”

“It wasn’t. I knew you would be there, I knew you were being attacked.”

Israel frowns. “How?”

Alyx takes a deep breath - no turning back now - and begins to tell him about her visions of him. Then to prove she isn’t lying she describes each one.

“Let me get this straight,” he says. “You see things through my eyes?”

“Essentially, yes. That’s how I knew where to find you then. And tonight.”

“Do you hear my thoughts as well?”

“Just whatever thoughts you have at the time.”

“That is...” his eyes blaze at her, “...so frickin’ cool.”

Her mouth parts as she sucks in air, realizing that she has been holding her breath. “You think so?”

“Think about it Alyx. You have been inside my body, felt my heart beating as if it were your own, felt how I feel, thought as I thought. You know what it’s like for me.” He leans forward as he speaks, grabbing her hands. “You don’t just know me, you know me.”

Alyx swallows, hard. His eyes have a way of making her feel like she is underdressed. Alyx wonders for a moment whether he can see inside her as she does him.
