Yours To Keep
Serena Bell

Ana Travares has been looking over her shoulder her whole life. Her U.S. visa expired when she was a young girl, and if her secret is discovered, she’ll be forced to return to the Dominican Republic. Ana allowed herself to get close to someone once before—and after he broke her heart, she swore never to make the same mistake again. But when a handsome doctor asks for her assistance, she fantasizes about breaking all her rules.

Even though pediatrician Ethan Hansen is a natural when it comes to little kids, as the single father of a teenage son he just can’t seem to get it right . . . except for the Spanish tutor he’s hired for his son, Theo. Ana has managed to crack Theo’s shell—and he isn’t the only one taken with her. The sexy tutor has fired up Ethan with a potent mix of lust and protectiveness. But as he starts to envision a future with Ana, Ethan is devastated to learn the truth about her citizenship. Somehow he’s got to find a way to help her—and hold on to the woman he’s falling hopelessly in love with.

Hey everyone!  Happy Thanksgiving to those of you out there who celebrate it, and Happy Thursday to those who don't! :)  Today I have debut author Serena Bell here today to chat with us for a bit!  Please, check out the post, say hi, and check out the book, Yours To Keep.  Looks terrific!

Liz, thank you so much for having me here today at Fictional Candy to celebrate Thanksgiving as part of the Yours to Keep tour! And thank you to everyone who’s reading on Thanksgiving. I hope you’re not trying to escape scary uncles but are simply sharing a quiet family moment while each of you enjoys your Web-surfing device of choice (this really happens in my family).

I didn’t set out to make Yours to Keep a holiday-time book, but somehow all this holiday goodness and joy crept in, and I found myself mixing turkey and stuffing with this much edgier story of an undocumented immigrant who’s terrified to open up. Ana has shied away from intimacy because she’s afraid someone will find out the truth about her and have her deported. Then she meets Ethan, the sexy “Dr. Handsome,” and—after quite a bit of sorting out, there’s a lot to celebrate, a lot of love and giving in the air, and a ridiculous amount of Thanksgiving and Christmas food.

Also, a turkey to be carved.

“Where’s Ana?” Theo demanded.

Ethan had been waiting for that question since Friday, but it still caught him off guard. The knife hiccupped out of the turkey’s flesh and bit a chip out of the ceramic platter.

“Who’s Ana?” Ethan’s mother asked.

In my family, the role of turkey carver is extremely fixed, and the ritual surrounding the carving, even more so. My dad always carved the turkey on the same board with the same knife, and my mother always hovers in just this exact sort of way, instructing him.

My dad would be horrified to learn that Ethan carved the turkey on a ceramic platter.

Luckily, we’re totally safe in my family from any kind of turkey-carving-ceramic-chipping incident, because my mother would never allow it to happen.

Please join the conversation below by telling us about the turkey-carving rituals, fights, or dramas at your Thanksgiving. Or, if turkey-carving is always uneventful, you can tell us about your scary uncle. It’s cheaper than therapy. Review: Soul Resurrected by Keri Lake (Plus a Scavenger Hunt!)

Title: Soul Resurrected
Series: Sons of Wrath, #2
Author: Keri Lake
Published: October 31, 2013
Format: Ebook received for review

As Wrath’s fiercest son, Logan carries the scars of fifty years spent in the most dreaded prison of the underworld, for a sin he’d kill to keep secret. Enduring decades of gruesome torture has left Logan feared by and detached from others, until a female Alexi’s blood resurrects his soul from death and, with it, the pleasures he’s been denied for so long.

Plagued by shame of her own, Calla is drawn to the ruthless demon, Logan, whose insatiable craving for her touch rouses buried passions and, for once, leaves her feeling desired.

A dark and dangerous evil has been reawakened, however, and when Calla is drawn too close to its breeding grounds, Logan vows to summon the violence of Wrath in order to keep her safe. First, though, Calla must save him from a past riddled with deceit and corruption … but only if she can accept the chilling consequences of unearthing his vilest skeleton.

Sons of Wrath
Never gamble with vengeance …

Sometimes I just love a really well written Urban Fantasy… Ok, well, who doesn’t, right? Keri Lake certainly delivers that with Soul Resurrected! I wasn’t able to get to Soul Avenged liked I had originally had planned, and I ended up jumping directly into Soul Resurrected. To be honest, I was lost. I couldn’t figure out who was who, and what they were doing and what was that thing again?? I was feeling very frustrated. But then, perhaps without me even realizing it, everything just clicked into place in my brain, and I was happily along for the ride.

Keri Lake is a local author to me, and this book takes place in the Detroit area. Granted, it’s not quite the Detroit I know… I mean, I only see beastly lycans around every few months, not every day. Err… um… anyway! It was really great seeing local places I know, it really enhanced the world building in my eyes. That’s just a little something extra, I think anyone feels when they read a book that takes place just around the corner.  Even if you are not from the area, you will definitely appreciate the world that Keri Lake has created for the Sons of Wrath.

Soul Resurrected certainly has some moving characters, too. Logan and Calla are the main characters. Logan, I’ll be honest, took a while for me to warm up to him. He was just so gruff, and a bit mean at times. But that’s just who he is! And once you peel the layers, and you see beyond all of that, you will find a man that you will certainly be pining for! And Calla, at first she seemed so shy and meek, she reminded me of a mouse. But the woman has strength and courage, and it wasn’t long before I really loved her character too. The supporting cast is really something else, too. You get to meet characters from Soul Avenged (or reconnect, if you’ve already read it!) and there are some new ones too. Some of them definitely got on my bad side and stayed there, while others proved themselves over and over to be show stealers!

The action in this book was top notch! If you really love Urban Fantasy, then you will love this book.  There was a ton of action and drama, fight scenes, hunting and such.  These are the type of things I really miss in a lot of PNR type books. Keri Lake definitely has a talent for weaving everything together in a perfect combination, and not making the more violent scenes feel out of place but rather like they belong there.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book. I think I would have loved it a lot more if I had been able to get to the first one first, but after finishing this one, I will definitely be working my way backwards and then waiting on pins and needles for the next one, I’m sure!

CHAPTER 1

Some lives just weren’t worth the trouble of saving …

The dark room swallowed Logan, as he lay sprawled on his bed—just as he’d been left after ditching his date with death. A stomach-turning sensation of thickened skin and tingles swathed his body, closing in on him, phantom sensations crawling over his flesh that kept him awake. Every five minutes or so, he willed an arm or a leg to move. No go.
Shadows danced across the wall on the occasions that one of the Catatones guarding the mansion passed through the floodlight below his window. He focused on them only because his neck had been propped in that direction and he had no choice. Good thing, though. She had been assigned to watch over him and slept somewhere beyond his periphery, the reminder heating his blood every time her sleepy moan drifted across the room.
The fury could’ve split him right down the middle.
Her blood ran through him—pumping in his veins, feeding his heart, keeping him alive.
Calla’s.
The woman who’d gotten him stabbed with Demortis, the only element capable of taking down a demon, now swam through his body as the only element capable of saving him. Her blood. Pure. Probably the closest he’d ever come to being righteous.
The irony was enough to leave him scratching his own eyeballs out of his head—that is, if he could reach the damn things. Like a bitch slap from the gods, who probably sat around drinking beers over the shit, poking fun at him.
The side effect of returning from the dead?
Feeling like the fucking dead.
Logan tightened his lip, wishing he could kick his own ass for being so stupid. Not like he’d hadto save her or anything. Hell, being a demon meant being the exception to human rules.
And being a son of Wrath meant never having to play by any species’ rules.
Yet for some reason, one lodged so deep inside his brain he couldn’t even begin to explain, he’d felt the need to intervene. Not so much for her sake, but because the little prick trying to rape her had taken a jab at the psychopath buried in Logan’s bones. Taunted him.
Then finally tripped his kill-switch.
Yeah, that’s what Logan told himself, anyway, because no other excuse could possibly justify why he couldn’t stir a single muscle in his body for anything having to do with her—Calla. The girl they’d picked up at some underground party, so high on Shine she’d have probably let every one of the brothers have a go at her if they’d been the ravaging bastardly types.
Lucky for her they weren’t.
“Should’ve walked away,” he muttered, his voice the only part of his body he could control.
A zing of pain shot through Logan’s feet, flexing them into an unnatural, paralyzed position. “Ah, shit!” Hadn’t his feet been numb just seconds ago?
Not even forcing his muscles to relax shook the sting away, one like a strike to the level of his bones, as if they shattered with impact.
He held his breath and clenched his teeth while the pain crept up his leg. “Motherfucker!” He spoke past gritted teeth, keeping his voice low to keep from rousing his babysitter, but damn, his back arched like one of those tetanus-infected bastards, his eyes squinting so hard they could’ve popped backward into his brain.
Black smoke curled behind his lids, and a deep laughter mocked him as the agony reached his spine. Trembling in the bed, Logan clamped his mouth shut and allowed the convulsions to run through him.
In silence.
He’d known pain—gut-turning, put-me-out-of-my-fucking-misery pain. Nothing compared to what wracked him at that moment, as if nightmares could invade the body and inflict injury. The burn, like molten lava oozing in his veins, seeped into his every cell, searing him from the inside. Sweat trickled down his temple at the same time as a chill burst deep inside his bones and swept through his limbs, leaving behind a wake of nausea.
That black smoke carried the familiar sensation he’d felt once or twice in his life—from the quick witted son of a bitch that brought the toughest demon males to their knees: absolute death. Stygius. The place in the underworld from where no soul ever returned.
With shallow panting breaths, he allowed the blackness worming its way into his mind to take over as something dark and wicked laid claim.
All Logan could do was let it take him.

Review: Hard As It Gets by Laura Kaye

Title: Hard As It Gets
Series: Hard Ink #1
Author: Laura Kaye
Published: November, 2013, Avon Books
Format: Galley (Thank you Avon, Laura Kaye and Edelweiss!)

Tall, dark, and lethal...

Trouble just walked into Nicholas Rixey's tattoo parlor. Becca Merritt is warm, sexy, wholesome--pure temptation to a very jaded Nick. He's left his military life behind to become co-owner of Hard Ink Tattoo, but Becca is his ex-commander's daughter. Loyalty won't let him turn her away. Lust has plenty to do with it too.

With her brother presumed kidnapped, Becca needs Nick. She just wasn't expecting to want him so much. As their investigation turns into all-out war with an organized crime ring, only Nick can protect her. And only Becca can heal the scars no one else sees.

Desire is the easy part. Love is as hard as it gets. Good thing Nick is always up for a challenge...

“…brotherhood is a two way street. You have to let me walk it with you.”

I was so excited to read this book!! I mean, it sounded perfect for me; jaded but sexy military guy, caring and in trouble heroine, tattoos… Hard As It Gets was so much more than all of that. Laura Kaye has written a book full of compelling characters that I will be sad to see go as each book in the series ends. At least, that’s how I felt when this book ended – I just wasn’t ready to say goodbye yet. Let me tell you why!

First we have Becca. She seemed just alright at first. She’s in trouble; it seems her brother is missing. He’s managed to get her a very cryptic message that leads her to the Hard Ink tattoo studio. It took me a couple chapters to warm up to Becca, but once I did, I was so fully on her team I could have had pompoms. She’s a nurse, which is good, because she has a natural caregiver instinct in her. But what I also loved about Becca is that she is a fighter. I mean, her dad was a big tough guy in the Army, so somehow that had to have been passed down to her a little bit, right? When her world starts deteriorating right before her eyes, she doesn’t crumble with it. No, she stood tall, rallied her forces, and fought back. I was right behind her with a resounding “yeah!”

And then Becca meets Nick, and it doesn’t go well. He turns down her plea for help, and she leaves feeling angry and let down as anyone would. And at first you’re all like, “hey Nick, WTF is that about? You’re supposed to be the hero!” Then it happens. She’s on his mind. He’s on her mind. A little of this, a little of that, and their lives are inexplicably changed forever. Nick turns out to be this caring and touching man, a man who protects what is his. A man who stands up for what’s right. A man who knows how it feels to lose the things that you hold dear and will fight until his last breath to make sure that you don’t ever have to feel that despair and that grief… A man who will draw the sweetest piece of art for you, and love you all night long in the best of ways. A man who you will fall for in this book every bit as much as I did.

So what happens in this book? Well, Nick ends up agreeing to help Becca. Then a lot of bad things happen back to back. But there are also some good things. Like a little pup, and some sexual tension that could peel paint from the walls. And a bunch of hugs with apologies and thank yous that will bring a tear to the toughest eye.

She gripped the collar of his coat; half afraid her knees would go soft and give out. Nick pulled his body away just enough to tear the coat off his arms and throw it to the floor. Geez, the gun holster was sexy hugging tight over his shirt, but he slipped out of it, too, and eased to the floor with a thunk. Then his hands were back on her breasts and his tongue was back in her mouth, stealing her breath and convincing her she could live without it.

God, this kiss. It was the kind she’d remember forever, that would invade her dreams and haunt her quiet moments. The kind her older self could look back on and know, once, she’d really lived. The kind that, no matter what, she could never, ever regret.

But wait. I said sexual tension. You didn’t think I would let this review go without talking about the sex, did you? ‘Course not!! The heat in this book was freaking awesome! Laura Kaye definitely knows how to write a toe-curler. There was a ton of teasing and false-starts that had me ready to chuck my kindle to the wall and curse the day Laura wrote this book, but I kept reading cause I knew she would bring it home perfectly. And that she did. What Becca and Nick share is emotional and raw and beautiful and sexy and hot and sweaty. It’s terrific. I loved every minute they shared together, and that is why I am a bit sad for this book to end. I loved this couple so much; I don’t want to see them go.

But let’s talk about some of the other characters. There is Jeremy, who is Nick’s brother. I seriously hope this guy gets his own book. He totally deserves it!!! He is charming, sexy, and every bit the man his brother is. And then there is Nick’s Army team, who are all completely endearing and sexy too.

The only thing that keeps this book from being a complete five star read for me is that I felt like some situations just got taken care of a bit too easily. They felt a bit rushed at times, and some questions were not really answered for me. Hopefully that will get cleared up in the next book. And of course, I am eagerly awaiting that one!

Tessa Bailey's Dirty Talkers!

The Queen of Dirty Talking is back! Whether this is your first experience with Tessa Bailey’s dirty talking heroes or you’ve been following her all along, you don’t want to miss out on meeting Brent and Hayden. Their banter is witty, filled with sexual tension, and the sex itself is “fan-your-face” hot, according to an early review from USA Today Happily Ever After.

Here’s a dirty talking snippet just for you guys:

He leaned forward and spoke right against her ear. “Come for me right now and I’ll let you ride me as hard as you want later. I know what gets you off. I saw it in your eyes last night. You want to throw me down and fuck me, duchess? Good. I’m in the mood to let you.”

Now you see why she’s been dubbed the Queen of Dirty Talking!

Asking For Trouble

Brent Mason and Hayden Winstead can't stand each other. She plans exclusive parties for her rich family’s charities. He’s a rough and tumble cop who rigs explosives for a living. Could two people be any less suited for conversation? They think not and prefer to keep it that way.

Unfortunately, their two best friends are deeply, disgustingly in love. Forced together, the mutual attraction simmering beneath the surface of Brent and Hayden’s non-relationship grows with every argument until it explodes into a scintillating night of mind-blowing sex. And it won’t be the last, as far as Brent’s concerned.

Hayden has a secret, though. Her father’s company is relying on a merger to save them from financial ruin, and only Hayden’s marriage to the CEO’s wealthy son can secure the deal. If she’s to protect her family, she’ll have to forget Brent. And he has no intention of being forgotten.

In celebration of her new release, Tessa Bailey’s first book Protecting What’s His is on sale for only ¢99 for two full weeks! (11/24 - 12/7) Just in time to gift it to everyone who appreciates a dirty talker.

 Protecting What's His

She’s running from the law, and the law wants her bad.

The opportunity was just too damn delicious for Ginger Peet to pass up. The purse full of money she finds—$50,000 to be exact—could give her and her teen sister the new start they need. So she grabs the cash, her gothy sibling, and their life-sized statue of Dolly Parton, and blows outta Nashville in a cloud of dust. Chicago, here we come...

Turns out, Chicago has some pretty hot cops. Hot, intense, naughty-lookin’ cops like Derek Tyler, who looks like he could eat a girl up and leave her begging for more. And more. Tempting as he is, getting involved with the sexy homicide lieutenant next door poses a teensy problem for a gal who’s on the lam. But one thing is certain—Derek’s onto her, and he wants more than just a taste.

And as far as he’s concerned, possession is nine-tenths of the law.

So what do you think?  I've not read Tessa Bailey - YET.  But I totally plan on it!!  I do have some friends that have read her and they totally swear by her.  And heck, you can't go wrong with a good dirty talker :)

PLEASE make sure of the price before you buy!  I just checked these prices myself, and they are still not lowered to 99 cents as of Monday morning.

Dream Cast & Giveaway: Teased by Jamie Begley

Teased
Jamie Begley

Published October 4th 2013 by Young Ink Press, LLC
“Here comes Trouble!” Colton took one look at the stripper on stage and knew that was exactly what Vida was, trouble. He had no desire to succumb to the young woman tantalizing men with her provocative movements and killer body with no intention of satisfying their fantasies. Fresh out of prison, his tattoo shop and getting rid of an aggravating ex were his first priorities, not a woman who should know better than to become involved in a situation that could get her killed.

Vida will do anything to save her friend’s life, even if it includes stripping on stage and doing lap dances in the VIP room under her stage name Trouble. All the sensuous moves were just an illusion to gain the information she needed, even if it meant the men who watched thought she would keep the promises her body was making.

Forced to sift through lies and betrayals, Colton discovers a woman who is as loving as she is loyal, but won’t give him a chance. Vida, who tries to ignore the escalating passion between them, learns the hard way that some men shouldn’t be teased…

Whoa!  What a hot cover that is, eh?  This book looks amazing, and I'm a bit sorry (for myself!) that this isn't a review post haha!  But I do have an awesome as hell dream cast from author Jamie Begley, so be sure to check it out!  The actors she's picked are positively drool worthy!!!

If that wasn’t awkward enough, when the killer gets too close, Cooper temporarily moves into Ruby’s place while a police officer tails her every move. I’m a little late for the spooky time of year, but let’s take a second to admire this cover. I swear on all that is scary, this is by far one of the best covers I’ve ever seen!! Just that image alone gives me chills!!

Review: Doe & The Wolf by Eve Langlais

Title: Doe & The Wolf
Series: FUC # 5
Author: Eve Langlais
Published: November 2013
Format: Ebook provided for review

What happens when a predator falls for his prey?

Bounty hunting is the perfect job for a maverick wolf; flexible hours, decent pay, the thrill of the chase. But Everett never counted on a doe stopping him in his furry tracks.

Dawn was a prisoner of Mastermind and ended up experimented on, against her wishes. On the run from Furry United Coalition agents, she ends up in the arms—and bed—of a lupine bounty hunter. Instinct tells her to run when she gets a chance because everyone knows not to trust the big, bad wolf, but her heart begs her to stay.

When the result of genetics gone wrong rears its mutated head and threatens both of their lives, will they manage to survive and discover if a wolf deserves a happily ever after?

I’ve never read a book from Eve Langlais that I didn’t absolutely adore. I’ve read several, from several series. She is consistently a terrific author. I’ve not experienced a “hit and miss” type of read from her. I think that says tons about an author’s capacity to keep her audience entertained. So that brings me to Doe & The Wolf, which is number five in the FUC series. And yes, I loved it. Why?

Well, first there is Dawn, a doe shifter. First of all, I love unusual shifters – and Eve definitely includes them in many of her shifter books. Dawn is just like a doe. She’s dainty and a bit timid, even her coloring and features resembles an actual doe. She was among the unfortunate to be captured by Mastermind, although she was “rescued” before too much harm came to her. Too much. Dawn appealed to me on many levels. Against her timid and deer-like nature, she has separated from her herd and is taking on the world by herself, as she is on the run from FUC, who has claimed her to be a wanted fugutive. She’s really rather fearless, and that is a quality I definitely admire in my heroines.

Then there is her love interest, Everett. At first I wasn’t sure I’d like him… I mean, he has big ol’ sideburns a la Wolverine. Ok, yes, a bit superficial of me. Everett is a wolf, and he turns out to be quite the witty, caring, and protective Alpha. So yeah, it didn’t take long for him to win me over. And his nickname for Dawn is “little doe”. I’m not sure why, but for some reason that just made me melt every time he said it. Everett is funny and has quite the smart ass humor, it was great reading all his cracks and quips. Everett used to work for FUC, but now he is a bounty hunter…hired by FUC. Awooo!

There are also other great characters in this book, like Tom – a sloth. Oh yeah, I love them unusual shifters, baby! And I actually cheered out loud when I saw a reappearance of Miranda and Chase from Bunny & The Bear, the first FUC book (and one of my absolute favorites!). And let’s not forget the villain in this book, Joey. Joey is definitely something else, that’s for sure. But it’s great, because even in her villains, Eve has not lost her sense of humor. Let’s just say I got quite a chuckle out of aluminum foil…

Doe & The Deer had tons of action! I mean seriously, Dawn is on the run and Everett is a bounty hunter. Wolf and Doe. Opposites attract in the most magnetic of ways in this book. Their interactions together cracked me up time and time again. And if you are looking for some steamy love between the sheets, there’s even some of that.

You could read this book as a standalone. I’ve read other books in the FUC series, but not all of them. I didn’t feel lost, only sad that I hadn’t gotten to the others yet! Each page in this book had me eager for the next, and I suspect you will be just as excited as I was. So run, don’t walk – and pick up this book now! Or you know, you could just click :)

Review: Doe & The Wolf by Eve Langlais

Title: Doe & The Wolf
Series: FUC # 5
Author: Eve Langlais

Why?

Review: WitchHunt by Emma Mills

Title: WitchHunt
Series: WitchBlood #4
Author: Emma Mills
Published: November 2013
Format; Ebook provided for review

I know it’s selfish, but I don’t want you to go,’ Daniel said, a couple of minutes later.
I looked at him and smiled.
‘I’ll be fine, I will.’
‘You’d better be. I don’t know what I’d do without you. Those months I stupidly spent apart from you… they were torment for me,’ he said.
‘They were torment for me too.’

As the Christmas season is ripped apart by the news that Jess’ old friend Alex has been turned into a vicious killer, festivities are dropped, Jess returns to England and the hunt begins. But Alex isn’t the only one being hunted, for Mary has found a way to extinguish the entire bloodline of Malden witches, and it is Jess’s book of shadows that’s the key. As things hot up, Jess finds she must leave Daniel and the safety of Manchester in a final hunt for her nemesis, Mary. In a fight-off that only one of them can survive, loved ones will fall… daemons will rise… but who will survive?

Well here we are, the last book in the series. I’ve been lucky enough to read every book so far, and it’s been a hell of a ride. WitchHunt does not disappoint, that’s for sure. Emma Mills has definitely kept up her steady pace of action, drama and mystery to pack a final punch in the world of vampire-witch bybrid, Jess.

In this final book we saw the return of the main characters. Jess, of course, and Daniel and Eva. But also Brittany and the coven from the States. The angels were included too, along with meeting some new ones. Mary, Cole’s sister, is back too – and she is pissed off in a big way. Since the majority of these characters have been with us virtually the whole way, I won’t go over them again. But I definitely love them, and I feel like they have really grown over the last four books. The actual time table for the story is under a year, but so much has happened it really feels like more.

One thing I like about this series is that in each book there are multiple big things that happen. It’s not all just leading up to one climax and then its over, but rather a veritable rollercoaster. WitchHunt is a fun trip, and it definitely had more than its fair share of nail biting moments. There are some instances where I wish that the story went a little bit more in depth, a little more detailed. I felt like some of the very awesome action scenes were a bit rushed through. I did have to go back a couple times and read a page over to make sure of what has really happened in the story.

Jess and Daniel really get quite closer in WitchHunt and I was super excited for it. I really love them as a couple, and I was glad that this book did not really focus so much on any struggle between them. If you are looking for heat, it’s not really there. Their behind the doors love is behind the doors. However, there are some definite sensual moments leading up to the hidden moments.

Overall there was a lot happening in this book, it’s one thing right after another. But everything flowed together and it was an exciting book to read. I think if you enjoy YA paranormal, then this is definitely a good book. WitchHunt had a bit more gore, I think, than the others in the series. It even had a few more 18+type situations. But hey, Jess is getting older and I think it’s great that the series has grown with her. So if you were to ask me if I recommend this series, it would be a definite yes. It’s definitely one to start with the first book though, don’t jump in mid-series.

So how about you? Have you already read any of this series? What did you think?

Emma is one of the new wave of successful indie authors. Her first YA novel, ‘Witchblood’, has been nominated for the CYBILS (Children & Young Adult Bloggers Literary Awards) and has also been in the Top Ten Kindle Download Charts for its genre. Since January 2012 she has gone on to publish ‘WitchCraft’ and ‘WitchLove’ which have respectively hit the top ten charts and have sold 20,000 copies in their first year. She is currently relocating her family from Manchester to Somerset, and is a stay-at-home mum to her two children. WitchHunt is the fourth and final book in the series.

Review: Her Wicked Angel by Felicity Heaton

Title: Her Wicked Angel
Series: Her Angel, #6
Author: Felicity Heaton
Published: September 21, 2013
Format: Ebook provided for review

The King of Demons and the Devil’s right hand man, Asmodeus is a dark angel born of evil and created for destruction. When his master orders him to venture into the mortal world and retrieve a female for him, he seizes the chance to leave Hell for the first time, uncaring of what the Devil has planned for her… until he sets eyes on the most beautiful woman he has ever seen—a female who awakens new feelings within his black heart, unleashing passion so intense that it controls him and desire he cannot resist.

He will not let his wretched master have her. She will belong to him.

Liora is a witch with a bad reputation and an obsession with fighting demons. A mission gone wrong sees her sent to Paris to cool off, but when a dark and deadly warrior with a gaze of golden fire lands in her life, she ends up burning hotter than Hell for the wicked angel. Nothing will stand between her and the immense, forbidding male. Not her cousin. Not Asmodeus’s sworn enemy and twin, Apollyon. And certainly not the Devil.

Caught up in a tempest of danger and soul-searing passion, can they survive against the odds and seize their forever after?

Her Wicked Angel is the first of the Her Angel series I’ve read by Felicity Heaton. I didn’t feel lost when reading this book, which is a big thing to me when I break into the middle of a series. When characters from other books made an appearance in this book, I felt there was enough explanation to keep me steady.

So on with this story! This is the story of Asmodeus and Liora. Asmodeus lives in hell and is an evil angel, the King of Demons, as he puts it. Asmodeus is seriously badass, and until this story begins he is basically a ruthless torturer and killer. He is the Devil’s right hand man, and takes pleasure in all things evil. Liora is a very powerful witch, and the Devil wants her in a bad way. Presumably to impregnate her. I tell ya, that Devil is always up to no good, right? So he sends Asmodeus to bring her to Hell, since he can’t leave.

What Asmodeus doesn’t count on is that Liora recognizes him – and she’s not afraid. Rather, she seems quite intrigued. And it’s a good thing, because he is, too. The two of them instantly fit together like the last two pieces of a puzzle. Love is definitely in the cards for them. And Asmodeus makes the difficult decision that he will not listen to the Devil, not bring Liora to him.

A lot of the book you feel like you are gearing up for an epic battle between Asmodeus and the Devil, except you don’t know how it’s going to go down. There is a constant shift in variables, and all the while it really amps up your concern that something is going to go very wrong for this couple. I really grew attached to both of them; Liora with her caring and gentle mothering ways, and Asmodeus as a newcomer to the life of goodness and seeing the mortal realm in person for the first time. Their personalities really complement each other.

He brushed the knuckles of his right hand across her face, tunnelled his fingers into her chestnut hair and grasped it tightly.  Liora gasped when he tugged her head backwards and banded his other arm around her, holding her immobile and powerless.  His hungry gaze fell to her lips.  He growled again, a husky feral sound that thrilled her, dropped his head and kissed her hard, devouring her mouth and dominating her.  She melted into him, helpless against the force of his kiss and the pleasure that swept through her in response.
Let’s talk about sex, ok? Oh holy Hell, this book has the hot sex in spades! Asmodeus may have been inexperienced before, but as soon as he meets Liora, he is definitely making up for lost time. His exuberance is infectious, and as much as they can get it on, I want them too. They work like a well-oiled sex machine. And when it’s good, it’s good. But when it’s love, well, it’s Earth shattering. Felicity Heaton definitely doesn’t disappoint in the sexual healing category in this book. She has a real talent for making you sweat.

There are two characters in this book that continually stole the show – Romulus and Remus. They are Asmodeus’s Hellhounds, and oh-my-god, they are the funniest, most wonderful pets you’d ever hope to have. They were playful and mischievous. When they made an appearance you couldn’t help but smile, and even laugh sometimes. Sure, they might be demon dogs, but they are still dogs. And not only that, but seeing the way Asmodeus is with them, well that’s all icing on the cake.

Felicity’s writing is spot on as always. She definitely grabbed me right from the start, and I enjoyed the ride the whole way through. This book is full of drama, action, and sex – just the way I like it. There were a few spots near the end where I felt it was a bit slower, but they were still quite interesting so I can’t find anything to complain about. What this book did do, however, is make me want to go back and read the previous Her Angel books. I’m especially interested in Erin and Veiron’s story!
