The only sure way to destroy a man is to take what he cannot live without.Three years ago, I had everything.A beautiful wife.A son.A reason for living.Until a ruthless task force, assembled under Mayor Michael Culling, with a brutal strategy to make the streets of Detroit ‘safe’, ripped away everything I loved in a deadly hunt called The Culling. They tried to kill me, too. I wish they had. Now I’m cursed by the memories of that night, and the words I whispered to my dying wife.A promise—to avenge the wrong and set it right.I’m no longer Nick Ryder. I’m a masked vigilante. Faceless. Loveless. Fearless. A man with nothing left to lose—one who’s seen the dark and violent truth behind the city’s flawless veneer.Michael Culling doesn’t know who I am. Or what I want. All he knows is that I’ve kidnapped his beautiful wife.An eye for an eye—isn’t that how the saying goes? And Aubree Culling is the perfect pawn to destroy him.If she doesn’t destroy me first.

Review: Soul Resurrected by Keri Lake (Plus a Scavenger Hunt!)
Title: Soul Resurrected
Series: Sons of Wrath, #2
Author: Keri Lake
Published: October 31, 2013
Format: Ebook received for review
Sometimes I just love a really well written Urban Fantasy… Ok, well, who doesn’t, right? Keri Lake certainly delivers that with Soul Resurrected! I wasn’t able to get to Soul Avenged liked I had originally had planned, and I ended up jumping directly into Soul Resurrected. To be honest, I was lost. I couldn’t figure out who was who, and what they were doing and what was that thing again?? I was feeling very frustrated. But then, perhaps without me even realizing it, everything just clicked into place in my brain, and I was happily along for the ride.
Keri Lake is a local author to me, and this book takes place in the Detroit area. Granted, it’s not quite the Detroit I know… I mean, I only see beastly lycans around every few months, not every day. Err… um… anyway! It was really great seeing local places I know, it really enhanced the world building in my eyes. That’s just a little something extra, I think anyone feels when they read a book that takes place just around the corner. Even if you are not from the area, you will definitely appreciate the world that Keri Lake has created for the Sons of Wrath.
Soul Resurrected certainly has some moving characters, too. Logan and Calla are the main characters. Logan, I’ll be honest, took a while for me to warm up to him. He was just so gruff, and a bit mean at times. But that’s just who he is! And once you peel the layers, and you see beyond all of that, you will find a man that you will certainly be pining for! And Calla, at first she seemed so shy and meek, she reminded me of a mouse. But the woman has strength and courage, and it wasn’t long before I really loved her character too. The supporting cast is really something else, too. You get to meet characters from Soul Avenged (or reconnect, if you’ve already read it!) and there are some new ones too. Some of them definitely got on my bad side and stayed there, while others proved themselves over and over to be show stealers!
The action in this book was top notch! If you really love Urban Fantasy, then you will love this book. There was a ton of action and drama, fight scenes, hunting and such. These are the type of things I really miss in a lot of PNR type books. Keri Lake definitely has a talent for weaving everything together in a perfect combination, and not making the more violent scenes feel out of place but rather like they belong there.
Overall, I really enjoyed the book. I think I would have loved it a lot more if I had been able to get to the first one first, but after finishing this one, I will definitely be working my way backwards and then waiting on pins and needles for the next one, I’m sure!

Series: Sons of Wrath, #2

Format: Ebook received for review
As Wrath’s fiercest son, Logan carries the scars of fifty years spent in the most dreaded prison of the underworld, for a sin he’d kill to keep secret. Enduring decades of gruesome torture has left Logan feared by and detached from others, until a female Alexi’s blood resurrects his soul from death and, with it, the pleasures he’s been denied for so long.
Plagued by shame of her own, Calla is drawn to the ruthless demon, Logan, whose insatiable craving for her touch rouses buried passions and, for once, leaves her feeling desired.
A dark and dangerous evil has been reawakened, however, and when Calla is drawn too close to its breeding grounds, Logan vows to summon the violence of Wrath in order to keep her safe. First, though, Calla must save him from a past riddled with deceit and corruption … but only if she can accept the chilling consequences of unearthing his vilest skeleton.
Sons of Wrath
Never gamble with vengeance …

Keri Lake is a married mother of two living in Michigan. She writes paranormal romance, urban fantasy and loves a good, tragic love story. Though novels tend to be her focus, she also writes short stories and flash fiction whenever distraction manages to suck her in to the Land of Shiny Things.
When she isn’t toiling away on plots and protagonists, she enjoys reading, music and travel. If she could create mystical powers for herself, she’d have the ability to flash to anywhere in the world. And if she could flash to anywhere in the world at this very moment, she’d be staring at the ocean from her adirondack chair on the shores of North Carolina.
CHAPTER 1
Some lives just weren’t worth the trouble of saving …
The dark room swallowed Logan, as he lay sprawled on his bed—just as he’d been left after ditching his date with death. A stomach-turning sensation of thickened skin and tingles swathed his body, closing in on him, phantom sensations crawling over his flesh that kept him awake. Every five minutes or so, he willed an arm or a leg to move. No go.
Shadows danced across the wall on the occasions that one of the Catatones guarding the mansion passed through the floodlight below his window. He focused on them only because his neck had been propped in that direction and he had no choice. Good thing, though. She had been assigned to watch over him and slept somewhere beyond his periphery, the reminder heating his blood every time her sleepy moan drifted across the room.
The fury could’ve split him right down the middle.
Her blood ran through him—pumping in his veins, feeding his heart, keeping him alive.
Calla’s.
The woman who’d gotten him stabbed with Demortis, the only element capable of taking down a demon, now swam through his body as the only element capable of saving him. Her blood. Pure. Probably the closest he’d ever come to being righteous.
The irony was enough to leave him scratching his own eyeballs out of his head—that is, if he could reach the damn things. Like a bitch slap from the gods, who probably sat around drinking beers over the shit, poking fun at him.
The side effect of returning from the dead?
Feeling like the fucking dead.
Logan tightened his lip, wishing he could kick his own ass for being so stupid. Not like he’d hadto save her or anything. Hell, being a demon meant being the exception to human rules.
And being a son of Wrath meant never having to play by any species’ rules.
Yet for some reason, one lodged so deep inside his brain he couldn’t even begin to explain, he’d felt the need to intervene. Not so much for her sake, but because the little prick trying to rape her had taken a jab at the psychopath buried in Logan’s bones. Taunted him.
Then finally tripped his kill-switch.
Yeah, that’s what Logan told himself, anyway, because no other excuse could possibly justify why he couldn’t stir a single muscle in his body for anything having to do with her—Calla. The girl they’d picked up at some underground party, so high on Shine she’d have probably let every one of the brothers have a go at her if they’d been the ravaging bastardly types.
Lucky for her they weren’t.
“Should’ve walked away,” he muttered, his voice the only part of his body he could control.
A zing of pain shot through Logan’s feet, flexing them into an unnatural, paralyzed position. “Ah, shit!” Hadn’t his feet been numb just seconds ago?
Not even forcing his muscles to relax shook the sting away, one like a strike to the level of his bones, as if they shattered with impact.
He held his breath and clenched his teeth while the pain crept up his leg. “Motherfucker!” He spoke past gritted teeth, keeping his voice low to keep from rousing his babysitter, but damn, his back arched like one of those tetanus-infected bastards, his eyes squinting so hard they could’ve popped backward into his brain.
Black smoke curled behind his lids, and a deep laughter mocked him as the agony reached his spine. Trembling in the bed, Logan clamped his mouth shut and allowed the convulsions to run through him.
In silence.
He’d known pain—gut-turning, put-me-out-of-my-fucking-misery pain. Nothing compared to what wracked him at that moment, as if nightmares could invade the body and inflict injury. The burn, like molten lava oozing in his veins, seeped into his every cell, searing him from the inside. Sweat trickled down his temple at the same time as a chill burst deep inside his bones and swept through his limbs, leaving behind a wake of nausea.
That black smoke carried the familiar sensation he’d felt once or twice in his life—from the quick witted son of a bitch that brought the toughest demon males to their knees: absolute death. Stygius. The place in the underworld from where no soul ever returned.
With shallow panting breaths, he allowed the blackness worming its way into his mind to take over as something dark and wicked laid claim.
All Logan could do was let it take him.

Soul Avenged
Keri Lake
Passion is blind in vengeance and love ...
Ayden’s suburban home was invaded by a pack of Lycans.
The brutal attack is the only memory she carries of her former life.
Now, one motive burns in her soul:
KILL THEM ALL.
The Sons of Wrath—a brood of vengeance-dealing warrior demons—band with Ayden to hunt the Lycans on Detroit’s most deadly feeding grounds.
Kane Walker should’ve been her easiest kill.
Unfortunately, the newly bitten Lycan has something she wants—clues that may finally lay her past to rest. To reach them, she must be willing to submit to the sensual pleasures awakened by his touch.
Time is running out.
In seven days, Kane will become what Ayden despises most. She can halt his transformation but the antidote requires the ultimate sacrifice. As the beast takes hold, Kane becomes more of a threat.
Ayden must choose between her lust for revenge, or surrender to her enemy and discover a horrible truth.
Sons of Wrath
Never gamble with vengeance
***Guest Post***
Every so often, when I’ve had the opportunity to gush about Soul Avenged, I get asked the question, who are the Sons of Wrath and what do they have to do with this story?
The Sons of Wrath are a brotherhood of, well, brothers—all sons of the demon prince, Wrath. By day, they’re smooth, Mafioso-style casino bosses in suits and by night, warriors of vengeance. In Soul Avenged, my female protagonist contracts them to help her seek and destroy the lycans responsible for an invasion of her home and the brutal attack that serves as the only memory of her past.
There are seven brothers, only two (twins) of which, who share the same mother. Each has his own distinct personality and so what does this mean for me?
Well, it’s something of a bachelor pad going on in my head, with Ayden smack in the middle. She’s a pretty badass female though, a trait that’s earned her respect from this motley demon brood. And good thing too. At any given time, one of them might wander through in his boxer-briefs, looking for a little attention from the ladies.
All the brothers, except for Zayne (who lost his mate to an accident), are completely unattached. Yeah, try sitting in a meeting with a group of serious administrator types, doing your best to keep a straight face while some brawny demon is whispering all the sexy things he wants to do to his next female houseguest.
“I’m sorry, what did you say?”
They get a kick out of pulling pranks on one another too, so I’ve had those horrific, almost schizophrenic, moments where a scene will materialize between two of them and I’ll burst out laughing in the middle of a quiet coffee shop or something. I’m that chick. Lucky for me, most times I carry a laptop so I can pull up YouTube or something and play it off pretty easily. “Oh, haha. What a crazy … video … that was.”
Really—I’m not crazy—I just happen to have a diverse group of males living up stairs who like to keep me entertained and on my toes. And to be honest, they’re a lot of fun, so I don’t plan on evicting them anytime soon.
CHAPTER ONE
CHAPTER ONE
Ice water.
The frigid sensation sliced through Ayden’s veins, leaving a numb trail in its wake as she stepped through the remains of the abandoned factory—one of many havens for the crack addicts and prostitutes. The old Packard Plant had become no more than a ghostly haunt for tormented souls.
Shitholes were cropping up everywhere, much more rapidly than ever before. Detroit, once a thriving city, brought to ruins. Gray and lifeless like the suffocating overcast that loomed during daylight.
A vile stench assaulted her nose, a potent blend of piss, sex and rotted meat, as garbage crunched beneath her boots. Foundation had collapsed all around where she stood, crumbled as if the building would fold into the depths of hell.
The graffiti spattering the walls gave the impression that gangs were the real threat—‘We don’t die, we multiply.’
Right. Like gangs own any part of this city, anymore.
A Beretta, loaded with silver bullets and a silver parrying dagger rested at one of Ayden’s hips, a silver bullwhip at another, as she moved past comatose bodies and decaying corpses.
Feeding grounds, like a bait pile.
Deadened eyes slowly tracked her movement in the darkness, squinting, as though craving the light that hers didn’t need to see. Humans so strung out on drugs, they failed to recognize the half-eaten carrion were once their own kind.
Not that knowing would stop them. They’d apparently chosen to face danger rather than kick their addiction, roaming the streets every night in search of their next high.
Lambs.
They were already dead. Death just hadn’t come to collect yet.
The blissful sigh of a hopped-up junkie reached her ears. She snarled her lip. “Enjoy it while it lasts, asshole.”
It’d be one thing if they were homeless. Hell, she might’ve fired a warning shot to evacuate.
The homeless didn’t come here, though.
Neither did the police—making it the perfect spot to get wasted and hustle some money.
Shots fired would’ve been nothing more than a momentary distraction before their minds slipped back into their ignorant state of euphoria.
Screw ‘em.
For any other girl, the place promised very bad things—an opportunity for a sadist to live out wild fantasies without ever getting caught.
For Ayden? Humans posed no threat. Their fragile bodies would shred like paper dolls against the work of her hands. Luckily for them, she sought something else to sate her thirst for bloodshed, something far more threatening than their most psychopathic criminal—and she’d tracked it right to the surrounding cornucopia of human flesh.
A thin, black mesh hoodie beneath her jacket concealed her face while the shiny black leather covering her body acted as a beacon in the moon’s light.
Full moon.
It didn’t matter.
Contrary to the fairytales and movies, they didn’t need a full moon to change.
Werewolves, some called them—like a supernatural Bigfoot on the loose. Nothing more than fodder for the tabloids, not to be taken seriously.
Lycans is how those ‘in the know’ referred to them.
The bastards could transform at will. In the middle of the day, if they wanted. Though, like a true predator, they’d evolved throughout the centuries, eluding humans by hunting them at night, catching their prey in their most vulnerable state.
Ayden reached a door in a darkened corner. The stubborn panel held stiff against the push of her palm, giving way only beneath one heave backed by exceptional strength. Beyond, a spiral of stairs wound above and below. Visuals flashed through her mind as she imagined the stairwell bustling with men in suits who passed each other with carefree visages—every one of them ghosts that roamed the destruction.
A quick scan showed no movement.
She tipped her head back and inhaled the repugnant scent the beasts had left behind.
They’re close.
Her feet took light steps, hardly making a sound against the concrete as she descended further into the pit of hell otherwise known as the lycan’s lair.
With each step, she wished her heart would pound wildly in her chest, or that her pulse rate would surge—both human reactions to fear. Neither of them did.
What fragments of her human soul remained had been stripped bare the night the Alexi made her one of their own. Even that, as tortuous as the unrelenting pain that seared through her body while it underwent its transformation, was a memory she could hardly summon anymore. Only a silent blackness dwelled in the place where snapshots of her life would have roamed free, a void that she couldn’t see beyond, separating her present from past.
She’d become one of them: an Alexi soldier. A cold and remorseless killer designed to eradicate in one sweep.
A noise piqued her sensitive ears.
Two flights below.
It could’ve been the skittering feet of a mouse beating against her skull like a base drum.
The thirst for blood moved like a dark storm cloud through her veins, a mix of raw adrenaline and something else—the something that came with her transformation.
Destroy.
Her feet moved on impulse, carrying her closer to whatever it was, rendering it nothing more than a thread-width away from its death.
In the corner of a landing, he sat hunched over on himself, body convulsing.
A grin skated across her face as she approached her first kill of the night.

throughout the centuries, eluding humans by hunting them at night, catching
their prey in their most vulnerable state.
Ayden reached a door in a darkened corner. The stubborn
panel held stiff against the push of her palm, giving way only beneath one
heave backed by exceptional strength. Beyond, a spiral of stairs wound above
and below. Visuals flashed through her mind as she imagined the stairwell
bustling with men in suits who passed each other with carefree visages—every one
of them ghosts that roamed the destruction.
A quick scan showed no movement.
She tipped her head back and inhaled the
repugnant scent the beasts had left behind.
They’re close.
Her feet took light steps, hardly making a sound
against the concrete as she descended further into the pit of hell otherwise
known as the lycan’s lair.
With each step, she wished her heart would pound
wildly in her chest, or that her pulse rate would surge—both human reactions to
fear. Neither of them did.
What fragments of her human soul remained had
been stripped bare the night the Alexi made her one of their own. Even that, as
tortuous as the unrelenting pain that seared through her body while it
underwent its transformation, was a memory she could hardly summon anymore.
Only a silent blackness dwelled in the place where snapshots of her life would
have roamed free, a void that she couldn’t see beyond, separating her present
from past.
She’d become one of them: an Alexi soldier. A
cold and remorseless killer designed to eradicate in one sweep.
A noise piqued her sensitive ears.
Two flights below.
It could’ve been the skittering feet of a mouse
beating against her skull like a base drum.
The thirst for blood moved like a dark storm
cloud through her veins, a mix of raw adrenaline and something else—the something
that came with her transformation.
Destroy.
Her feet moved on impulse, carrying her closer to
whatever it was, rendering it nothing more than a thread-width away from its death.
In the corner of a landing, he sat hunched over
on himself, body convulsing.
A grin skated across her face as she approached
her first kill of the night.
