Bite Size Review: Alice's Alpha by Ann Gimpel

Title: Alice's Alpha
Series: Wolf Clan Shifters Book 1
Author: Ann Gimpel
Published: July 2013, Liquid Silver Books
Format: Ebook provided for review

It’s 1936. Thirty-year-old Alice has almost given up finding a man. Between civil engineering and mountain climbing, her interests are so masculine she scares men away. A poor route choice lands her next to horror movie star Lon Chaney’s cabin deep in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. She’s wary when Jed, a strikingly handsome man, offers her shelter.

By the time she discovers he’s clan leader for a pack of wolf shifters, she’s in way too deep to back out. Her carefully tended wasteland of a heart cracks wide open and all her preconceived notions shatter. Snared by the mate bond, Alice discovers passion hot enough to change her forever. She’s just getting used to Jed when his lieutenants show up, and she discovers she’s mated to all three.

***Bite Size Review***

It's 1936 and Alice is a forward thinking woman.  She wouldn't be content to sit home and be a wife, she wants to see, to learn, to do.  This is something I find myself liking about her.  One day, while mountain climbing with her best friend, Brent, he suddenly has to leave without reason.  He tells her to quickly find her way to the car and lock herself in.  Seriously, what?  This just seemed very... unlikely. First of all, he supposedly is her best friend, but he's leaving her on the side of the mountain.  And secondly, she doesn't flip out on him?  I repeat, seriously.... what? And then she runs into a man at Lon Chaney's cabin.  His name is Jed, and I did find myself liking him quite a bit. He was definitely the Alpha of the wolves, and acted it.

Review: Just Good Friends by SL Siwik

Title: Just Good Friends
Series: Yep! Two more books scheduled
Author: SL Siwik
Published: March 2013, Createspace
Format: Ebook provided for review
Tour: Yes, Bewitching Book Tours

Juggling two jobs and mounting bills, Audrey decides she doesn't have time for a boyfriend, but contemplates a friends plus situation. After placing a personal ad, she meets Mike, a local cop, former Marine. He's old fashioned and overbearing, but she just can't walk away. Unfortunately for her, Michael is an expert marksman, and her heart never stood a chance. Their tumultous love affair crashes to an ending neither foresaw, and Audrey is forced to make a decision that will change both their lives forever.

Ok this book?  Completely awesome.  It made me smile and laugh.  I mean laugh right out loud! Right from the beginning I knew this story had something special in it, and I ended up devouring it within a day.

First we have Audrey, who is a waitress in her mid twenties at a diner.  Actually, she works two jobs, and barely has any free time at all.  She does have a little dog named Baron, who is quite the charming little guy, especially around new people!  Audrey's sex life has taken on a bit of a dry spell, and Audrey decides a personals ad online is the way to go.  It's not long before she's got a ton of responses.

One in particular is from a guy who wants to set her up with his friend.  And then that guy shows up at her diner the next day - and its actually on accident, not a stalker thing!  I thought this was hilarious, and it just had me giggling.  Little did I know what would be coming up soon!

Very soon this brings Mike, a cop, into the picture.  You can tell the guy is a bunch of nerves, and the nervousness is rolling off of him.  And well, he acts like an ass.  A big ol giant ass lol.  As for the man himself, he turns out to be this extremely attentive, caring, kind man, if a bit socially awkward.  Nearly the perfect man, I'd say. But calling their first meeting a disaster would be a compliment!

The rest of the story includes some funny situations, like one involving a sex toy store.  Or entirely sweet scenes, like one during the fireworks.  All in all, you get a nice steady slow build on something between Audrey and Mike that is amazing and wonderful. And the sexy naked time - oh holy man on fire!  These two certainly have the chemistry when it comes to being alone together in the dark!

I loved every page of this story.  It was fresh and fun, and the characters were a perfect match together.  If you are a romance fan, I think you should definitely add this one to your list - you won't be sorry!  SL Siwik is definitely an author to keep an eye on!

Review/Giveaway: More Than Friends by Jessica Jayne

Title: More Than Friends
Series: No
Author: Jessica Jayne
Published: November 2012 Cobblestone Press
Format: Ebook provided for review
Tour: Yes, Bewitching Book Tours

Jeni Acerna is a twenty-eight year old woman, whose longstanding sexual relationship with her best friend, Brian Hamilton, has been both blissful and troublesome. She has been unable to commit herself to another relationship because no one can compare to Brian in or out of bed. She has been in lust (and love) with him for years. But she is afraid to tread down the romantic path with Brian for fear of losing his friendship. After several months of not seeing each other, Jeni and Brian meet in Cleveland for a friend’s wedding. Their weekend getaway, however, is anything but normal. They agree to not have sex for the first twenty-four hours they are together. The first to beg for sex owes the other $500. Jeni’s intent is to see if there is something more to her and Brian that just unbelievable sex. After a tortuous night, their sexual attraction is more than either can bear. Their passion erupts and their sexual relationship picks up where it left off…hot and heavy. However, this time, Brian wants Jeni… and not just in his bed. Can he convince her the risk is worth taking?

More Than Friends was the most fun I’ve had in under 50 pages in a while. I love these stories where the person you are meant to be with forever is actually the person who has been there the whole time.

Jeni and Brian have been friends forever, since they were children. Now he is in Ohio and she is in Florida, and her best friend is getting married. Unfortunately for Jeni, she’s just broken up with another man, and has no date. Good thing she always has Brian.

Jeni and Brian’s history has been so sexually charged that they can barely keep their hands to themselves when they see each other under normal circumstances. But this time Jeni has put a stop to all of that, but as soon as she sees him she knows the stop has to go. And therein comes the bet.

This story was terrific. Both of the characters were fun and enjoyable, and I didn’t have a single complaint about either one. The bet was awesome, but $500? Whoa!! That’s a lot of money! I think I would be drinking some warm milk and going to bed for the night before I thought about losing $500. But then, I don’t know Brian.

When they finally do pair up the sex is incredible. It’s hot. The story itself was passionate and exciting. It left me feeling happy and content, and maybe it’s the PMS talking, but yes, there might have been a tear of joy somewhere in there.

If you are a fan of these types of shorter stories, then I definitely think More Than Friends is one you should add to your list. I’m finding more and more than I am really enjoying these shorter adventures. This one in particular was perfect from start to finish, and I couldn’t have been happier. Jessica Jayne is definitely a new author to me, but I’m going to keep a close eye on her. I see she has another book out, and you can bet your ass I’m about to read it!

Guest Post: Aubrianna Hunter, author of Hidden Depths

Hidden Depths
Aubrianna Hunter

She is pierced, dyed and tattooed, born on the wrong side of the tracks. He is a traditional white knight born of the proverbial silver spoon. Their meeting was an accident, the fact that they became even the most tentative of friends, an anomaly. The only real thing they had in common... chemistry. Lots of chemistry. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough and Gia knew it. Now, if only she could convince her body...

Josh had always walked the line, lived the life he was expected to live. He had, by all accounts, the perfect life; a corporate lawyer, a beautiful home, a family empire to run, and the perfect fiancee. He was well on his way. The only question he had... was that really where he wanted to go? Plagued by dreams, Josh fought all his natural instincts, denying not only what he truly wanted but who he was deep down inside. Until one crazy night when he gave in to his desires...

Could these two polar opposites have more in common than even they realize?

Thank you so much for having me here today. I'm doing a blog tour to promote my book Hidden Depths, book one in a series. One of the questions I get asked a lot is where did my characters come from? I thought I would address that with a little more detail today.

Gia, or Georgia Ann McClellan, is actually a wonderful blend of people I know and a lot of myself. Her background is a fictional blend of people I know currently and a couple I have met over the years. I wanted her to be soft despite her harsh background. She just hides it beneath a veneer of tough. Her clothing choices... well, those came from me. If I were still in my twenties, that would be how I would dress. Pieces are still things I wear now. The torn jeans, black T-shirts, black boots, and yes... the purple lipstick. While she has her own neuroses, her own fears, a lot of her sarcasm and biting humor came from me as well. I love Gia... She gets to say and do everything I think without any of the social ramifications I would face.

Josh... Josh was the perfect balance for Gia, and honestly a lot of fun for me to write. He was very different on the surface than my normal male lead. I very definitely have a type... I love dark, dangerous, slightly damaged men. What can I say? But Josh was so perfectly All American, you just knew there had to be more underneath. I love getting into the layers of people, finding out what secrets they hide. And admit it, we all have them. The person we present to the world, and the one we try to keep buried, sometimes even from ourselves. That's the person I want to know. And Josh had many, many layers. Secrets just waiting to be released, to break free. You can't hide forever. So, letting him out to play, with the one person in his whole world that wouldn't balk at his... let's say quirks... well, that was just too much fun!

I am currently writing Hidden Desires, Deb's story. I am hoping to have it ready for release in May or June of this year. So, stay tuned. I think you'll find there's much more the Deb than meets the eye as well.

I am often asked; who is Aubrianna Hunter? And the truth is the answer isn't a simple one. Beyond being a dedicated wife and mother, I was raised by a Marine, and married into the Navy.

Needless to say I can go toe to toe with the most sarcastic people you have met, and can dish insults and curse with the best of them. I blurt wildly inappropriate things at precisely the moment when the room goes quiet, so much so that my co-author has nicknamed me Ted... Yes... After the bear in the movie.

Recently my husband has replaced calling me crazy with calling me "Creative", but the tone he uses to do it makes me question his sincerity. Though honestly, crazy is probably closer to reality. I like my hectic life, in fact I thrive in the chaos and would have it no other way.

Review: Party Crasher by April Angel

Title: Party Crasher
Series: No
Author: April Angel
Published: February 2103, Etopia
Format: Ebook provided for review
Tour: Yes, Bewitching Book Tours

She crashed his party and became his prize…

According to one annoying Drex Callum, Chris is a “nosy reporter.” And maybe she is. She’s heard of the super secretive event known as the Seduction Party, and she won’t be content until she finds a way in. The last thing she expects to find is that Drex is the host. She’ll never get an invitation from her nemesis—unless she finds a way to get one herself. And breaking into his house is nothing if it means getting the scoop. But what she gets instead is an eye-full of the man himself, half-naked and more than she’d ever dreamed he could be in all her teenage fantasies.

Drex has been fantasizing about Chris forever, and now that she’s a grown woman, he still has a hard time treating her like one. So when she shows up at the Seduction Party—on the auction chair!—he’s got no other choice but to teach that nosey woman a lesson. He never dreamed sex could be like this, with Chris in his room, tied to a bed, asking him for stuff that blows his mind…

"I'm going to fuck you for all the times I've wanted to but didn't.  Fuck you until I am the only man your body recognizes"

Um, oh hell yeah.

This is my third book from April Angel (aka Milly Taiden) and I think pretty soon I will be approaching fan girl status.  In Party Crasher the characters are vibrant and fun, the sex is hot and exciting, and the danger is exhilarating.

Christine is an investigative reporter, and she is determined to find out what happens at Seduction Parties.  But the girl can't get an invite.  But no worries, she is finding her way in.  And somehow she not only finds her way in, but right up on center stage displayed for auction. Lucky for her, family friend Drex recognizes her and makes sure she doesn't end up in the wrong hands.

Ok Chris was snappy and brazen, I liked her.  She didn't need help from any man, and I really love seeing a strong female lead.  Not only that, but getting into the party and ending up on stage was all a bit Laverne and Shirley, and it really made the story a bit fun.  Well, I thought that was fun until Drex got her in the bedroom. Then I realized what real fun was.

Drex, oh Drex.  Man.  April Angel can write these men that will just boil you to pieces.  Drex is no exception.  Strong, confident, in charge, Drex is everything any woman would go weak in the knees for.  If you don't believe me, start at the beginning of this review and read that quote again.  Because that is him up there.  Yep, no need to say more.

But this story doesn't end with the Seduction Party.  Someone doesn't want Chris to write that story for the newspaper, and they are determined to make her stop.  But no one pushes Chris around - love her!!!  And when Drex gets protective of her, and takes steps to protect her - and worries about her so deeply, I am just lost.  I loved this story.  It was a great and quick read, and the adrenalin rush was fantastic.

Want to know about me? Milly Taiden (aka April Angel) was born in the prettiest part of the Caribbean known as the Dominican Republic. She grew up between New YorkFloridaand Massachusetts. Currently, she resides in New York City with her husband, bossy young son and their little dog Speedy. She’s addicted to shopping for shoes, chocolate (but who isn’t?) and Dunkin Donuts coffee.A bookworm when she can get her hands on a good story, she loves reading all Mina Carter, Cynthia Eden, Laurann Dohner and Dianne Duvall among others.

Promo: War of Fei by Kathleen S Allen

War Of Fei
Kathleeen S Allen

The faeries are ready to declare war on the humans who threaten to take away Fei, the land of the faeries. They enlist the help of the elves who do not trust either the faeries or the humans.

The cost of war almost proves too much for the faeries as more and more of them are lost in battle.

Will it be enough to win their hard-earned freedom or will the battle be lost forever?

**Snippet**

I got up to study the maps and fingered Glador’s map to the north. The land of the forgotten elves and where the faeries from Fei escaped. It happened when the humans began swarming into Fei, taking over the land. Rion, the faerie with whom I joined, had traveled to Glador soon after Cwicseolfor had been born, in order to ascertain how many elves would be fighting against the humans now living in Fei. Rew, Rion’s brother, went with him and so did their father, Rhyn. They flew on our dragons, Bura and Ori. Tashie, my dragon, stayed behind in case I needed her and to nurture her own baby, Shri, who recently hatched.
