Title: Scent of a Mate
Series: Sassy Mates #1
Author: Milly Taiden
Published: September 20, 2013 Latin Goddess Press
Format: Ebook provided for review

GOODREADS

Mission: Scent a Mate

Jordan Alvarez knew that a promise to her best friend involved staking out the local wolf pack's scenting ceremony and recording the graphic details, but she was the writer and the only one with the balls to finish the task. No one would know that four human women had sneaked proof of their rituals, or at least, that was the plan until Aric Wolfe showed up.

Mission: Stake a Claim

Aric Wolfe knew his baby sister was up to something, and expected her best friend, Jordan, to be in on the chaos. He finally had an opportunity to lay claim to a mate that had been under his nose for years. Jordan's scent called to both the man and the animal, and he was done fighting the call of the beast. It was time to mark his mate.

Mission: Survive an Alpha

When a good intention creates a problem for the Wolfe family, Jordan finds herself being stalked by a woman intent on claiming Aric as her own. Battle lines will be drawn, love will be put to the test, and Aric will have to fight Jordan's strong personality to keep her alive. Two alpha hearts seeking control will either find the balance or risk losing their love forever.

I’d read Milly Taiden before as April Angel and I absolutely loved her books. So when the opportunity came along to read her as Milly, I was beyond ecstatic. And what I saw was that Milly is a terrific author, no matter what name she uses. Scent of a Mate was action packed with enough heat and drama to fuel any shifter lover’s dream.

This is the story of Jordan and Aric. Jordan is a human, and a curvy latina at that. I really enjoyed her character. She was energetic and intelligent. Not only that, but she was daring and not quite aware of how fantastic she really was. Poor girl took more than her fair share of beatings in this book, it was a rough time for her, no doubt. I’m hoping (and I’m sure!) her future will be much easier than her time in Scent of a Mate.

His nostrils flared. With deliberate care, he placed her on the ground, but he didn’t let go. Instead he cupped her face and kissed her. The combination of passion, fear, and adrenaline sent her arousal skyrocketing. She curled her hands around his neck, digging her nails into the back of his skull. Instant heat exploded in her core. Her pussy went slick with need.

He delved his tongue into her mouth. Hot damn the man was a fantastic kisser. He was agressiv3e. He took. He owned. He branded. And she loved it.

Meanwhile Aric is the oldest son in the Wolfe family, and his father is current Alpha. Yep, that means Aric is full of big bad himself. God, I love me some Alpha men. I can’t tell you how much it thrills me to read about these guys, and Aric definitely does not disappoint. He was beyond caring, a bit mischievous, incredibly sexy and well, he was just all man. Ok, well, he is all wolf. Man. Wolf man. You know what I mean! His possessiveness is what shifter fans like me lust for in a book. He’s all about “Mine” and every time he said the word I got chills all over my body. Aric is definitely one of my favorite Alpha men I’ve read. His devotion was really the highpoint for me. I’m thinking about wandering the woods in search of my own wolf. Like I said, Alpha all the way.

“You still don’t understand.” His gray eyes flared with wolf power. “You own my heart. You’re the most important person in my life.” Tenderness filled his gaze, followed by unquestionable determination. “And I won’t let anyone hurt you. That includes you. I will do anything to protect you. Even if means stopping you from putting yourself in harm’s way.”

Jordan has some great friends too. In fact, one of them is Aric’s sister, Ellie. She is the quintiscentual best friend. I want her to be my friend. She has so much love in her for her family and friends, yet she is this fierce wolf in her own right. And it would seem that mischieviousness runs in the Wolfe family (yep, right down from the matriarch down to the youngest wolf!) And if I am going to mention Jordan’s friends, I have to note Aric’s brothers. Talk about mischievious! These guys take the player mentality to a new level, but I think the times are changing for these fellows and I absolutely can’t wait to see their books.

Now the story! Whew! So much fun! It starts out with Ellie agreeing to let Jordan document a traditional mating/scenting ritual for the wolves. Jordan is to remain hidden…but as it turns out, that’s not as easy as it seems. From that point on it is action, friendship, sexy hot times, more action, a bit of mystery and intrigue, more sweating to the hotties, and more action. This book was nonstop and I was excited in one way or another through the whole story.

Milly’s writing carries a bit of a smart ass tone to it, which I absolutely love. Getting to know these characters felt like I was already talking to my friends. There was easy camaraderie and it just felt familiar and fun. The plot was exciting with multiple plot points happening – some of which aren’t completely resolved in this book. That means I am going to have to befriend Milly and beg her with puppy dog eyes to be on the list for the rest of this series, because I absolutely HAVE to know what happens next. Trust me, after you read this book, you will have to know too.

Review: Melody's Wolf by Mina Carter

Title: Melody's Wolf
Series: Lyric Hounds #1, 1Night Stand #170
Author: Mina Carter
Published: May 2013, Decadent Publishing
Format: ebook provided for review

Melody's love life is in a bit of a dry spell...for the last two years. Content tracking down archaeological evidence of werewolf packs, she spends her time wearing wellingtons and covered in mud rather than looking for a date. Knowing her worried brother isn’t above arranging a kidnapping to get her to go on a date, she agrees to a match with 1Night Stand, figuring Madame Eve has to be a better matchmaker than her beloved brother.

Money, fame, looks—rock star and werewolf Aaron Rixx has it all, except the one thing that truly matters...love. Yearning for a woman to see him for who he is, he lets Madame Eve make all the arrangements. No matter where he goes, as the lead singer of the world famous band, Lyric Hounds, he's always recognized...so all he expects is a night of hot sex and a quiet weekend with his music.

He never anticipates Madame Eve might find the one woman on the planet who doesn't recognise him on sight...or the one he and his wolf identify instantly as their mate. Will one night be enough for him to convince Melody she's his forever?

“Chance meeting. You never know.”

This is what Melody’s brother told her after he informed her that he has set her up with 1Night Stand since her love life has been as dry as her archaeological digs. Welcome to Melody’s Wolf.

I’ve read a couple of 1Night Stand books, and I find them to be a quick and enjoyable read overall. I wasn’t let down with Melody’s Wolf by Mina Carter. Ok, first, let’s get it out of the way – the cover, OMG, the cover. Like who the hell is that model and where can I get to see more of him??? I mean, I’m drooling so much over here, I’m a bit worried about my keyboard….*wipe*

Now the story! Melody’s brother sets her up, like I said previously. A little weird? Ehhh, I don’t know. I like to think if I needed help in the romance department, one of my brothers would take some initiative. Maybe not set me up on a sexual date like Barr did for Melody, but hey, this world Mina Carter created also has werewolves living out in society (not in secret like they do now, shhhh)

“He’d expected sex. Instead Madame Eve provided his mate.”

The man Melody gets set up with is Aaron Rixx, lead singer of the band Lyric Hounds. That’s the guy on the cover. Uh-huh. Nice! But more than that, his actual character is as genuine as you would hope. He seems like a real honest guy. So when him and Melody meet up for their date, there are some definite fireworks.

“She held his gaze, feeling eveyrhing. Every hard plane of muscle. The thick length of his arousal pressed against her soft belly. He was going to fuck her. Fill her again and again with that deliciously hard cock, every inch of it. A shiver rolled from head to toes. She couldn’t wait.”

I really enjoyed the story. The heat was at a nice comfortable level, and the location was pretty awesome. The chemistry between Melody and Aaron was through the roof, for sure. Madame Eve is one crafty lady, once again creating the perfect couple in this book. This was my first Mina Carter book, and I found her writing to be smooth and easy to follow. I will definitely be picking up more of her titles in the future to read!

Bite Size Review: Alice's Alpha by Ann Gimpel

Title: Alice's Alpha
Series: Wolf Clan Shifters Book 1
Author: Ann Gimpel
Published: July 2013, Liquid Silver Books
Format: Ebook provided for review

It’s 1936. Thirty-year-old Alice has almost given up finding a man. Between civil engineering and mountain climbing, her interests are so masculine she scares men away. A poor route choice lands her next to horror movie star Lon Chaney’s cabin deep in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. She’s wary when Jed, a strikingly handsome man, offers her shelter.

By the time she discovers he’s clan leader for a pack of wolf shifters, she’s in way too deep to back out. Her carefully tended wasteland of a heart cracks wide open and all her preconceived notions shatter. Snared by the mate bond, Alice discovers passion hot enough to change her forever. She’s just getting used to Jed when his lieutenants show up, and she discovers she’s mated to all three.

***Bite Size Review***

It's 1936 and Alice is a forward thinking woman.  She wouldn't be content to sit home and be a wife, she wants to see, to learn, to do.  This is something I find myself liking about her.  One day, while mountain climbing with her best friend, Brent, he suddenly has to leave without reason.  He tells her to quickly find her way to the car and lock herself in.  Seriously, what?  This just seemed very... unlikely. First of all, he supposedly is her best friend, but he's leaving her on the side of the mountain.  And secondly, she doesn't flip out on him?  I repeat, seriously.... what? And then she runs into a man at Lon Chaney's cabin.  His name is Jed, and I did find myself liking him quite a bit. He was definitely the Alpha of the wolves, and acted it.

Review: Pleasure Cruise by Mandy M Roth and Michelle M Pillow

Title: Pleasure Cruise
Series: Pleasure Cruise #1
Authors: Michelle M Pillow, Mandy M Roth
Published: March 2012, Raven Books
Format: I won it!

Clare needs to loosen up and have some fun--not to mention some hot sex with someone other than herself. Her best friend, Kira, knows exactly what she needs--a vacation full of hunky single men who'll knock her panties off. When she booked the cruise for Clare's birthday, the travel agent left out one tiny detail. It's a supernatural cruise, and they aren't getting off until they're married.

The powers that be are tired of waiting for the supernatural to find their own mates and reproduce. In a desperate act to get the dwindling population back up, they've decided to take matters into their own hands. Dominik, a lycan, and Braden, a vampire, are just the two perfect candidates to start this experiment. They're sexy, in the prime of their reproductive immortal lives and ready to mate--just as soon as they can seduce their unsuspecting brides, or at the very least, keep them from swimming back to shore.

Rating: Contains graphic sexual content, adult language, and violence. This book is an erotic title. That means it's super, mega hot and full of steamy, melt your sock off sex. If that isn't for you, you should move along to a less steamy title.

Things that come to mind when I think of the book Pleasure Cruise:
  • Friends
  • Fun
  • Hot men
  • Sexy as hell nights (and days!)
  • Snark!

Friends, if you’ve not read this book, please do yourself a favor and put it on your TBR now. Preferably near the top. You will not be disappointed. It was so much fun to read!

The story starts with a rather interoffice memo that lead me to use this book in this past week’s Quote-Tastic post. It is from The Powers That Be regarding the dwindling population numbers among the supernatural, and bringing humans aboard the ever popular Pleasure Cruise in hopes mating will take place. Grand idea! Where the hell do I sign up for this??

And the two human girls in this story who get to go on this cruise are Kira and Clare. It was Kira’s idea, of course. She’s a bit of a crazy girl, always looking for some fun. Clare, on the other hand, is a bit more reserved and still licking her wounds after a broken heart. But you can’t say no to Kira, can you? The only thing is that neither of these girls is fully aware of what this cruise is about. They may each think they know, but they have no idea!

Our two leading men are Dominik and Braden. Dominik is a Russian werewolf. ‘Nuff said, I know. But let me go on! Dominik is fantastically awesome! At first all I could think was he was a super creeper, but it wasn’t long before I thought he was just perfect. Tall, dark, handsome and yet caring and sensitive and packing a huge… punch. And Braden… British vampire. ‘Nuff said, again. Am I right, or am I right? Both of these men are super hot and sexy, with libidos to match. They have certain supernatural powers that really help them out from time to time, and they are the male form of besties. Do men even call themselves besties? I couldn’t have picked better men to star in this fun-fest!

I don’t want to give it all away, but let’s just say there are some funny things that happen this story. We’re talking mistaken rooms, mind play, swinging vibrators like bats… Yep, I did just say that. I freakin’ laughed OUT LOUD! Mandy and Michelle have proven themselves to be a perfectly paired team on this book. And more than funny there is sexy, and the sexy will burn you up! You will be panting and sweating and begging for more!

I can’t say enough how much I enjoyed this book. It was lighthearted and fun. It left me smirking and overjoyed, and eager to read the next one in line, Date With Destiny, which involves some were-panther twin brothers. Oh, I have GOT to read that one!!

So how about it? Have you read this book? Are you going to?

Ahwooooooooooh!!!!  Ok, that was my wolf call, for those of you who haven't picked up on that yet lol.

Scarlet was an amazingly hot little story, and if this is the type of story that Celia Kyle writes about, I am so on board. Her writing style has a smart as flair to it, and I'm immediately sure that I want to do shots with Celia Kyle.  She has a sense of humor, and an amazing imagination (for which I am now immensely grateful!)

Let's start, shall we?  First we meet Scarlet, the oldest of the Wickham triplets (that means more books in the series!!).  She is a firestorm of personality, and I immediately get a little girl crush on her.  See, in this book if you are 30 and unmated you get to go to the Gathering, which is like a big wolfy speed-dating marathon.  Lucky for the Wickham triplets, none of them are mated.  Except none of them are happy about this Gathering!!! I don't see why the heck not, in their world if you bear the Mark it means you are getting mated to two Alpha males.  Double the pleasure, double the fun...  So when these triplets get to the Gathering, and the first thing Scarlet does is school a couple of douchey wolves, and get them kicked out, I know she is completely awesome.  And so do Keller and Madden, who right away sense she is their mate and ask her to talk to them further at dinner.

Ok, I am not going to spoil this.  But let me tell you... that dinner was HOT, and it wasn't because the chef was cooking on high temps.  Holy heck-o-wolf, their meeting at the restaurant was erotic as sweet-baby-wolfen-hell.  Seriously, if it doesn't make you sweat, then you should go to the doctor cause there is something wrong with you.  And then soon after, they are supposed to go get to know eachother a little bit better... Except those asshats come back, and need to be dealt with.

Oh yeah, that means there is some awesome action in this book too, which I am a complete sucker for.  And then its back to the hotter-than-a-sauna-on-fire other type of action.

This book was fantastic, and I am eagerly waiting to hear how things go for Scarlet's sisters, Gabby and Whitney.  If you are into wolfy menage, and you probably are if you are like me, then this book will be a must read!!

Scarlet continued clicking down the wide, marble-tiled hallway, passing boutique after boutique of overpriced souvenirs and gifts. Nearing a store boasting high-end purses and accessories, she paused, pretending to look over the offerings. In reality, she took a peek at Mr. Gun Guy in the glass’ reflection.

He didn’t even pretend he wasn’t watching her. No, he stood eight feet back, hands behind him, and flat-out stared at her.

Well, she wasn’t about to have him follow her to dinner. She turned and faced him head on. “Is there a reason you’re following me?”

“Yes.” His voice was a low baritone, but it did nothing for her.

She waited for further explanation but didn’t get anything. “Okay, why?”

The man’s look remained bland. “Because the Ruling Alphas ordered your protection.”

She rolled her eyes. “Well, we’re back to why.”

“It was ordered.”

Scarlet huffed. “Do you know why and you’re not telling me, or are you simply a drone doing as he’s told?”

That earned her a quick twitch of his lips, and she knew he was trying to suppress a smile. “A little in between.”

“Fine. God forbid we complain about the Ruling Alphas and their high handedness. This is because my sisters and I got into it in the ballroom with Garron and Quentin, isn’t it? Keller and Madden tattled to them. It wasn’t our fault, you know.” Then again, the assholes had been tossed from the Gathering, so it made sense that the head honchos needed to be informed. “Well, if you’re gonna follow me around like a puppy,” she winked to take some of the sting out of her insult, “you might as well walk next to me.”

Scarlet gestured for the guard to approach, but the man stood still, his body frozen in indecision.

“Come on, I promise not to tell the big bad Ruling Alphas you actually talked to me while you acted as my guard. Hell, who knows when I’ll actually get to meet them. I’ll probably forget you by then.” She winced. “Not that you’re forgettable, I—” She huffed. “Just talk to me.”

“I don’t think—”

“Well, I do.”

She stomped toward him and tugged on his arm, ignoring the sting that accompanied touching a male not meant for her. Stupid Mark. Now that she’d met her mates, pain would accompany any contact she had with other men, human or wolf. At least until she completed her mating with Keller and Madden. Thankfully she wasn’t alone in the ouchy department. It was the same way for the guys.

“Yes, Alpha Mate.” The man grumbled but relented. Aw, her males had already spread the word about their connection. That had to be the reason she’d been upgraded from simply “Marked” to “Alpha Mate” by the guard. How sweet. Sweet-ish. She sorta wished they hadn’t jumped the gun, but Alphas were Alphas.

As uncomfortable as the wolf appeared, she didn’t bother trying to talk to him further. She simply felt better that he wasn’t following her and making her feel like a stalked chubby gazelle.

In less than a minute, they strode into the restaurant side by side, the maître d’ quickly leading them toward the back. Together, they wove their way through the room, sliding around various tables, and she noticed most were occupied by two men and a single woman.

Well, it looked like quite a few were already performing the Test of Proximity. Although she had a feeling the test was all for show. Much like the dinner she was about to enjoy.

Before long, she stood before her two wolves in the very back of the restaurant, and both men rose upon her approach. It was Madden’s growl that broke the sweet moment.

She needed to remember he was the more aggressive of the two, and apparently he didn’t like other men close to her.

Hoping her mother’s teachings had been correct, she stepped in front of the guard, redirecting the wolf’s attention. “Madden?”

The rolling sound cut off the moment his eyes met hers, the last of his air hissing from his lungs in a sigh. “Scarlet.”

She waved behind her. “The Ruling Alphas said I needed a guard. No need to get testy.”

Madden furrowed his brow. “Wha—”

Keller cut him off. “I’m sure they want to keep you safe.” He smiled and stepped around the table, drawing her forward with a hand on her lower back. The seductive scents of heated wood, raw power and man surrounded her, and she melted into his side. “You already know how to handle our Madden.”

She chanced a look at the wolf in question and noted his smile. “Perhaps.” She turned her attention back to Keller. “I’m not sure how to handle you, though.”

“I doubt that’ll be a problem, sweet. I’m like any other wolf. Give me something to snack on and you’ll have my attention.” She didn’t miss Keller’s not-so-subtle innuendo.

“Right,” she drawled.

Keller pulled out the chair and she sat between the two men. His heat warred with the inferno that flowed from Madden. Two sides of the same coin, so alike, yet so different.

The guard that had accompanied her took up a post in front of the table. He and four others essentially made a wall-o-wolves, cutting them off from the rest of the diners. Talk about overkill.

Review: Kindred by JA Redmerski

Title: Kindred
Series: The Darkwoods Trilogy, #2
Author: JA Redmerski
Published: July 2012
Tour: No
Format: Ebook provided for review

Isaac Mayfair is hiding a dark secret. And just when Adria Dawson thinks the worst of her life among the werewolf world is over, she learns the secret that can rip her and Isaac’s love apart. Adria must come to terms with what the truth means for her. What it means for her life and how much time she has left to live it. She must choose between two different fates, neither of which can offer life as a certainty.

As if Isaac’s betrayal isn’t enough, Adria learns that there are things out there older and more powerful than werewolves could ever be. An archaic entity known only to few as the Praverian, unlike anything Adria has ever known or heard of.

As Adria struggles with her own fateful dilemmas, she must also try to find out why the Praverian is so interested in her and do everything in her power to stay out of its way.

Due to MATURE YA content, this book is recommended for 17+.

Because of scheduling issues it took me longer than I had wanted to get back to these characters and their story.  But as soon as I brought this book up on my kindle, it was absolutely no time until I finished it.  JA Redmerski is one of those authors whose writing style is just so right that your eyes eat the words up like... like book crack. haha. She writes with passion, and you can feel it in her words. This story brings us back to Adria and Isaac, and they are as close and together as ever.  Life seems pretty darn terrific overall for them.

Adria still needs to learn to lean on and trust others a bit, but I still really like her.  But the poor girl is carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders, and it makes me clench my teeth in sympathy for her.  Adria and Isaac's relationship is definitely enviable.   Any why?

Well, Isaac, for one.  Can we say dream boyfriend? I have little hearts doodled by his name in my notes.  I think that means I'm into him lol. He cares so deeply and thoroughly for Adria, the rest of us can't help but be a bit jealous. Soul mates.

This second book in the trilogy introduces a few new characters, and I thought they were really fantastic.  At times I had to wonder what the heck was going on, like with Genna.  But I liked her.  Hell, I liked them all.  I am completely enamored by Adria, Harry, Genna, and the Mayfairs.

And of course there are some really great wolfy scenes with these larger than life and very scary beasts.  You definitely get an adrenalin rush several times in this story. I love the powerplays and drama involved throughout. If you are into wolves and you haven't latched onto this series, then you definitely need to.  It has everything: romance, drama, werewolves and other paranormalness, and big ol' trucks - gotta love that!!!
