Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, right? At least that’s what twenty-year-old Ginny Bailey’s grandmother always told her, and Ginny believed it until Grama died. But Ginny can’t pretend any longer. When she finds out she’s going to be alone for the holidays this year, her Christmas spirit goes out the window, along with her luck. Everything that can go wrong does, and Ginny just wants to spend the holidays hiding under the covers...until Dean Riley comes back into her life. With a shared past, old feelings begin to resurface almost immediately, and Ginny thinks Dean might just be the Christmas miracle she’s been waiting for to help her remember why Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year.

Review: Blurred Nights by Kallysten

Title: Blurred Nights
Series: The Demons Age, #5
Author: Kallysten
Published: First published, 2008.
Format: Ebook provided for review

In a future world shattered by the invasion of beast-like demons, humans are fighting back as well as they can, using ancient weapons along with magic to defend their cities. Next to them, vampires are fighting too – some for the thrill of it, others to hold on to age-old Pacts, which demand that they protect humans.

When Kate’s squad of fighters meets vampires Marc and Blake, she is torn. Her squad could use their help, but the two men are distracting her from her duty. Night after night, they search together for the breach between realities that allows the demons’ invasion. They search, also, for the equilibrium that will allow Blake to forgive his Sire, Marc to accept Blake as he is – and Kate to admit she is attracted to both of them.

Can they find that delicate balance before the demons destroy the squad?

I think before I began Blurred Nights I was expecting a high heat ménage type of vampire story, perhaps similar to the On The Edge series, also by Kallysten.  If I had to classify this book, I would say straight up Urban Fantasy with just a hint of romance.  To be honest, it took me quite a few chapters to not look for sex around every corner, behind every fleeting glance.  And that is totally on me and my dirty brain.   This book is also number five in The Demons Age series, which I have read none of them previously.  I did not feel as if I were lost, but I do wish that maybe I had read other so that I could learn more about the demons themselves.

In Blurred Nights we have Marc and Blake, Sire and Childe.  Friends and lovers.  I liked both of these men quite a bit and found their personalities complimented each other well.  Where Marc is by the book and strict, Blake blazes his own path and makes the rules as he goes.  Apparently there are issues in their past, and I don’t know if that is covered in another book or not.  But this has definitely caused some trust and abandonment issues between them.   While they are out hunting demons, they happen upon a group of people, and they end up going back to their compound with them.

In this group is Daniel, the leader, Simon, the mage, and Kate, a soldier of sorts.  There are others, but their parts are generally smaller.  The main issue of focus here is Kate, and she sort of finds herself in a bit of a triangle with the vampires, Marc and Blake.  I liked Kate enough.  She is a strong woman, stubborn in her ways, and when she loves, she does it all the way.  What I would ultimately like is for Marc, Blake, and Kate to be thrown in a room with no doors to figure their hearts and wants out without escape.

Like I said, I would consider this book Urban Fantasy.  There were some romantic kissy moments, and there was even some sex (of the Marc & Blake variety). It was mostly about the war with the demons.  Now the demons… that is where I think I could have benefited from reading previous books.  Were they mindless killing machines, or were they intelligent killing soldiers from another dimension?  Did they think for themselves, or were they driven by a singular command?  I’m still not entirely sure.  One thing I do know is that they are pretty badass and just bad. I definitely wouldn’t want to meet them in a dark alley.

So did I like this book?  Yep.  I sure did.  After I got out of the mindset that it wasn’t all about the nookie.  That took me a moment. Would I recommend this book?  Absolutely.  Kallysten always has this free flowing familiar style to her writing.  It’s always easy to follow and very descriptive.  She creates these whole worlds around these characters, and you feel like you are right there in the deserted and foggy streets with them.  Add that on top of compelling characters and the drama she injects into every story, and you’ve got yourself a hell of a book.

Review: Bad Kitty by Eliza Gayle

Title: Bad Kitty
Series: Southern Shifters #1
Author: Eliza Gayle
Published: Sept 10, Gypsy Ink Books
Format: NetGalley

If you think you've lost everything. Think again.

Kitty lost her father, her home and her clan. Clinging to what's left of her pride, she's forced into the neutral zone, the supposed safe haven for half-breeds and outcasts. An attack forces her to the wrong side of the treaty line and into an even more dangerous situation. Determined to greet death with the last of her dignity, she is suddenly rescued by a tall, gorgeous...wolf???

As the next alpha leader of his pack, Rafe Comyn has more than enough to handle with pack politics and precarious treaties. The last thing he needs is a pissed off feline landing in his lap, especially when her scent triggers his overwhelming drive to mate. While the daughter of a former rival is quite a conquest, she's both forbidden and dangerous.

But as the heat of desire threatens to consume them, their differences escalate and Rafe must keep his own pack from killing the one woman he can't live without.

Here Kitty Kitty.... Sorry, couldn't resist.

Bad Kitty by Eliza Gayle, it's not a bad read.  Kitty is a cougar shifter, which is very awesome in and of itself. The story starts with her arriving in the neutral zone. You get bits and pieces of why, but not really as much information as I would like.  It kind of felt like Bad Kitty should either have a prequel novella, or possibly even be book two in the series.  It seems Kitty also almost had a relationship with a cougar named Kane that I felt could have been explored more.  At this point, it felt like it was added just for the heck of it.

She'd learned a hard lesson that begging a man for his love and affection was what weak women did and she refused to be that woman anymore.  When it came to her currently non-existent or future love life, she had no more tricks up her sleeves or any devious plans to get what she wanted.

So like I said, Kitty is banned to the neutral zone (for reasons I will not spoil), between cougar territory and wolf territory.  When she gets to her new home, she quickly realizes she is not alone.  A quick and action packed series of events forces her to run, and unknowingly run into wolf territory.  That bit of action I did find to be very exciting and drama packed.  But again, I would have liked to meet these other people before this scene happened, just so it didn't feel so out of the blue.

While in the new territory Kitty meets Rafe.  This was played out in an intriguing way, but it also really drew your attention to Rafe.  I felt like right off the bat he could be trusted, and I knew Kitty would be safe with him.  Initially while Kitty is with Rafe very little happens.  You discover exactly what Rafe thinks of Kitty, and then that evolves.  The evolution of their relationship is quite quick and very interesting.  But hey, they are shifters, and things tend to happen quickly for them.

I found the main characters to both be very pleasing, but my favorite was Kitty.  This alone was awesome for me, because I usually love the man more.  But in this book I found Kitty to be this bad-ass cougar who is just coming into her own.  She's a wildcat in more ways than one, and I loved watching her self-awakening.

For a few long seconds he stared at her as if he saw straight through her.  The vulnerability that look created threatened to overwhelm her.  She wanted to blink or look away, but found it impossible to break eye contact.  For a moment she forgot about the pain, the differences of their species and the fact she needed to get away.  She focused only on the foreign sensation of being mesmerized.  Her head and body betrayed her with a sharp longing for more of the man sitting in front of her who'd awakened something inside her with a simple touch to her cheek.

There is certainly a lot of drama, especially since wolves and cougars aren't normally friendly.  There were a few action scenes, which I love.  It really lent itself to the "wild animal" feel.  However, there were several aspects which I just felt were out of place (like the previous almost-relationship of Kitty's, for instance).  There were also some issues I would have liked to see a better explanation of- like some of the pack dynamics within Rafe's pack.

All in all, I enjoyed Bad Kitty.  To be honest, I was expecting something a little different, and some parts of the book were a bit predictable, but it was still an enjoyable story.  If you enjoy books like the Preternaturals series by Zoe Winters, or really any shifter romance, I think you will enjoy this book.  As for me, I'll check out the rest of the series when it's released, but it probably won't be at the top of my list.

Excerpt #1 Prologue (adult content)

We arrive in Miami, check into our hotel, and immediately decide to check out the Miami night life.
Wearing a barely there silver, backless, halter dress and heels I was ready to dance the night away.  At five foot seven inches with my heels, my legs are going on for miles tonight.  I put my hair in a loose up do, frame my eyes with a smoky shadow, and add a clear lip gloss to finalize my look.

Brayden is dressed in his typical baggy jeans and t-shirt.  He is six foot tall, more of a lanky build with a slight beer belly forming, which is especially noticeable when he stands next to a very toned and muscular Ryder.  His dirty blonde hair and crystal blue eyes, which hold such depth they make me melt every time he looks at me.  We both love to go out.  We met four years ago at a bar in Charlotte while we were both celebrating another finished semester of college.

We arrive at Cameo nightclub in downtown Miami and immediately hit the dance floor.  There is something about the atmosphere of a club that just takes over my senses.  The bodies pressed together, each finding their own rhythm as the vibrations from the bass reverberates through the crowd.

Having Brayden up against my back side running his hands all over my body as we move to the music is enough to bring my nipples to attention rubbing against the thin scrap of fabric, otherwise known as my dress.  His hands roam, as we dance, moving the back of my barely there dress over the hills of my ass, leaving me exposed.  My bare backside now grinding against the erection of his jeans is delightful friction.  He then places one hand upon my breast and begins to tease it, while he plunges two fingers, from the other, into my hot core.  I am so turned on I don’t care who sees me.  When I am almost ready to explode, he stops.

Grabbing me, he leads me to a back hallway, where he quickly pushes me up against the wall, freeing himself and pounding into me.  Raw, needing passion, transfers between us as I have an earth shattering orgasm.  Brayden follows right behind me.  As we straighten ourselves, he smiles and whispers, “I love that you never wear panties, baby.”

Chelsea Camaron was born and raised in Coastal North Carolina. She currently resides in Southern Louisiana with her husband and two children but her heart is always Carolina day dreaming. Chelsea always wanted to be a writer, but like most of us, let fear of the unknown grab a hold of her dream; she realized that if she was going to tell her daughter to go for her dreams, that it was time to follow her own advice. Chelsea grew up turning wrenches alongside her father, and from that grew her love for old muscle cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles, which just so happened to inspired her ‘Daddy’s Girls’ series. Her love for reading has sparked a new love for writing and she currently has a few more projects in the works. When she is not spending her days writing you can find her playing with her kids, attending car shows, going on motorcycle rides on the back of her husband’s Harley, snuggling down with her new favorite book or watching any movie that Vin Diesel might happen to be in. She hates being serious and is still a big kid at heart. She is a small town country girl enjoying life and, Chelsea hopes that her readers remember not to take life too seriously and to embrace your inner five year old, because five year olds know how to enjoy the simple things in life and how to always have fun.

Derek: Her thighs. Fuck. Is Ginger off work yet?

Jett: Her eyes. I love being able to read a woman’s innermost thoughts and feelings in her eyes. The more expressive the better.

Landon: I love Steff's ear lobes. They're so delicate and she shivers when I raze over them with the edge of my teeth...or bite.

Cover Reveal & Giveaway: Walk On The Striped Side by Jessie Lane

Does he have his claws in her for good? Or is she just yanking his tail?

Elena Demos’ life has been turned upside down. Her mother passed away, leaving Elena and her two half-sisters to deal with their mother’s will and the crazy stipulations in it. For the three sisters to inherit the substantial amount of money left behind they have to go work with two Aunts they’ve never met, in the family business they knew nothing about. Amazons Inc.. If that wasn’t bad enough, she runs into the man who broke her heart their first day on the job.

Gage Ivanov is a stupid beast. He let the woman who should be his mate go because she couldn't be told of his Other identity. Now Elena’s back, but she refuses to give into his demands for her to be his mate. The timing for all of this couldn’t be worse. Gage and his circle of friends are trying to subdue a rogue pack of wolf shifters in Germany who threaten to out the Others to the world of humans. Will he be able to juggle the oncoming conflict and win back his mate?

Claws have never been this sexy.

Never mind how good she looked, or that she smelled like sex on a stick, he was going to bend this arrogant young woman over his lap and paddle her ass for talking to a higher ranking soldier like that. For talking to him like that. His tiger was going nuts underneath his skin. The need to exert his dominance over her, to show her just who the fuck was in charge here, was riding him hard.Harder than ever before. Which bothered him. Combine that with the insane urge to show her who the bigger predator was caused a niggling suspicion that there was more going on here than good old fashioned annoyance or the need to lose himself in a warm willing body.

Sucking on his teeth in extreme agitation he opted for denial. There was absolutely no way that this woman could be a possible mate. Surely fate wouldn’t be so cruel as to try and pair him off with a fragile human that could be easily killed. He wasn’t entirely sure, but the signs of compatibility were there. The natural pheromones to attract one mate to the other. His Tiger going wild inside of him.

He was going to choose to think that those pesky coincidences didn’t mean shit.Even better, he was going to ignore those signals in the name of self-preservation. He’d never wanted a human for a mate in the past, and that wasn’t changing over an intoxicating scent, a pair of unusually pretty eyes, and the need to fuck a better attitude into her. Nope, he’d rather be mate-less. Or settle for a mate that both his human and beast’s side didn’t crave with a dangerous intensity. He would rather find a mate they could grow to care for, and who would be something much sturdier than a very breakable human.

Since he wasn’t paying attention to her at the moment, he only distantly heard her say, “Helllllloo… Master Sergeant Ivanov? Are you sure you want to stick to that story about getting some sleep? Because you don’t seem to be all there upstairs to me.” Delicate fingers snapped in front of his face a couple of times, bringing his attention back to the object of his thoughts. As he looked at her impatient face he made a silent vow to himself. Mate possibility or no, if the disagreeable woman didn’t stop antagonizing him, he was going to break every unspoken rule in the supernatural Othercommunity and unleash his claws on her backside. As his eyes zeroed in onto the unconscious nervous movement of the tip of her pink tongue swiping over her bottom lip, Gage thought. Claws and a good pop on the ass ought to scare some respect into her.

Jessie Lane is the writing team of Crystal Leo and Melissa Pahl. The two sisters-in-law share a passionate love of naughty romance, cliff hanging suspense, and out-of-this-world characters that demand your attention, or threaten to slap you around until you do pay attention to them. Because really, it is ALL about the characters. (They’re kind of megalomaniacs – but don’t tell them that we said that.)

Crystal lives in Kentucky with her husband, little 7 and 9 year old Rock Chicks in the making, and her Dad who likes to play the air guitar while listening to George Thorogood’s Bad To The Bone. Melissa just moved to Minnesota with her husband and giant furry Rottweiler baby named Yuffi. Crystal is now trying to talk Melissa into “polar bear” swimming in Lake Superior, but so far Melissa is adamantly telling her no.

Their first YA novel, The Burning Star, was released in May 2012. Big Bad Bite was their second novel, but their first adult paranormal romance, and released in January 2013. Their third book, Secret Maneuvers, just releaseed this past June, and will be the start of a new adult contemporary romance series (Ex Ops Series). They are now working on their next three novels, Walk On The Striped Side (Big Bad Bite Series #2), Stripping Her Defenses (Ex Ops Series #2) and The Frozen Star (YA Star Series #2).With these projects underway, they are looking forward to showing the rest of the world their crazy stories, heroes and heroines that often plague their minds until written, and hope you will join them on their journey!

Yeah!!  How does that sound?  Oh, I am so definitely on board with this book - I can't wait til it comes out.  But when, you ask? This winter!!  So get ready, mark your calendars!

Review: Melody's Wolf by Mina Carter

Title: Melody's Wolf
Series: Lyric Hounds #1, 1Night Stand #170
Author: Mina Carter
Published: May 2013, Decadent Publishing
Format: ebook provided for review

Melody's love life is in a bit of a dry spell...for the last two years. Content tracking down archaeological evidence of werewolf packs, she spends her time wearing wellingtons and covered in mud rather than looking for a date. Knowing her worried brother isn’t above arranging a kidnapping to get her to go on a date, she agrees to a match with 1Night Stand, figuring Madame Eve has to be a better matchmaker than her beloved brother.

Money, fame, looks—rock star and werewolf Aaron Rixx has it all, except the one thing that truly matters...love. Yearning for a woman to see him for who he is, he lets Madame Eve make all the arrangements. No matter where he goes, as the lead singer of the world famous band, Lyric Hounds, he's always recognized...so all he expects is a night of hot sex and a quiet weekend with his music.

He never anticipates Madame Eve might find the one woman on the planet who doesn't recognise him on sight...or the one he and his wolf identify instantly as their mate. Will one night be enough for him to convince Melody she's his forever?

“Chance meeting. You never know.”

This is what Melody’s brother told her after he informed her that he has set her up with 1Night Stand since her love life has been as dry as her archaeological digs. Welcome to Melody’s Wolf.

I’ve read a couple of 1Night Stand books, and I find them to be a quick and enjoyable read overall. I wasn’t let down with Melody’s Wolf by Mina Carter. Ok, first, let’s get it out of the way – the cover, OMG, the cover. Like who the hell is that model and where can I get to see more of him??? I mean, I’m drooling so much over here, I’m a bit worried about my keyboard….*wipe*

Now the story! Melody’s brother sets her up, like I said previously. A little weird? Ehhh, I don’t know. I like to think if I needed help in the romance department, one of my brothers would take some initiative. Maybe not set me up on a sexual date like Barr did for Melody, but hey, this world Mina Carter created also has werewolves living out in society (not in secret like they do now, shhhh)

“He’d expected sex. Instead Madame Eve provided his mate.”

The man Melody gets set up with is Aaron Rixx, lead singer of the band Lyric Hounds. That’s the guy on the cover. Uh-huh. Nice! But more than that, his actual character is as genuine as you would hope. He seems like a real honest guy. So when him and Melody meet up for their date, there are some definite fireworks.

“She held his gaze, feeling eveyrhing. Every hard plane of muscle. The thick length of his arousal pressed against her soft belly. He was going to fuck her. Fill her again and again with that deliciously hard cock, every inch of it. A shiver rolled from head to toes. She couldn’t wait.”

I really enjoyed the story. The heat was at a nice comfortable level, and the location was pretty awesome. The chemistry between Melody and Aaron was through the roof, for sure. Madame Eve is one crafty lady, once again creating the perfect couple in this book. This was my first Mina Carter book, and I found her writing to be smooth and easy to follow. I will definitely be picking up more of her titles in the future to read!

Guest Post & Giveaway: Out of Line by Jen McLaughlin

Out of Line
Jen McLaughlin

Desperate to break free…

I've spent my entire life under my father’s thumb, but now I'm finally free to make my own choices. When my roommate dragged me to my first college party, I met Finn Coram and my life turned inside out. He knows how to break the rules and is everything I never knew I wanted. A Marine by day and surfer by night, he pushes me away even as our attraction brings us closer. Now I am finally free to do whatever I want. I know what I want. I choose Finn.

Trying to play by the rules...

I always follow orders. My job, my life, depends on it. I thought this job would be easy, all the rules were made crystal clear, but when I met Carrie Wallington, everything got muddy. She's a rule I know I shouldn't break, but damn if I don’t inch closer to the breaking point each time I see her. I’m ready to step out of line. And even worse? I’m living a lie. They say the truth will set you free, but in my case…

The truth will cost me everything.

Today I have a fun little peak for you, inside the life of author Jen McLaughlin.  Fun!!  Sit back and take a look, and enter the giveaway at the end.  Good luck!!
