Passion's Poison
Lexi Post
Beatrice Rappaccini is tired of the one-night stands that keep her alive. Tired of the illness she causes when she releases her sexual poisons into her partners. But when she meets Zach Woodman, everything changes. Desperate for what she can’t have, she puts her heart and life on the line, ignoring the anonymous letters warning her to stay away.
Zach Woodman, logger turned chainsaw artist, has the perfect life, but no one to share it with after the deaths of the women he loved. Fascinated by the sexually experienced yet naïve Bea, he promises himself he will end their hot relationship before fate takes another beautiful woman from the world.
But he discovers Bea has no idea how to have a relationship, and he is perplexed by her strange behavior, hippy mother, six fathers and her request to give him every man’s sex fantasy. It is only when he might lose her that he realizes he must make a decision that will break his heart either way.
Hey Lexi! Welcome to
Fictional Candy. Make yourself at home!
Thank you, Liz. I hope you don’t mind but a I brought a
bottle of Passion Fruit Cruzan Rum to go with our chat. It seemed appropriate J
Fantastic! Sounds delicious!
First let’s start with your latest release, Passion’s
Poison. This sounds like one hell of a
story. What was the inspiration behind this?
I write erotic romances inspired by the classics, so for
this story I used Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “Rappaccini’s Daughter.” My heroine,
Beatrice Rappaccini, is a descendent of the original poisonous character
Hawthorne created. My Bea must have sexual intercourse to lower the poisons in
her body in order to stay alive. This means her partners get very sick, and so
she regulates herself to one-night stands, especially after she put her high
school boyfriend into a coma! But when Bea meets Zach Woodman, former logger
turned chainsaw artist, her attraction to him has nothing to do with releasing
her poisons and everything to do with him. Needless to say, with her poisonous
condition, she fights her attraction, but love is a formidable force. The
question is, can she keep him without killing him?
If Passion’s Poison were to be made into a movie, who would
play Bea and Zach?
I think Bea could be played by Penelope Cruz but Zach is a
tough one. I mean, look at the cover! That is Zach. Anyone know an actor that
looks like that?
Lexi, what’s the most awesome thing about being an author?
That’s tough because I love being an author. I love writing
my stories and having people read them and truly enjoy them. I guess I really
like it when people let me know they enjoyed the story. Oh, and I love giving
things away! That’s a lot of fun.
What is your favorite swear word (and why!)?
Hmmm, well, I don’t swear a hell of a lot. I mean, sugar,
it’s not so cool, but damn that makes this a hard question ;-) My dad was an English major, so swearing came
a bit late for me. I have one manuscript that I’m revising now where the
heroine uses made-up swears which is more like how I grew up. For example, Holy
Hamlet! Gulliver’s Gullet! Oh, Shakespeare. Those are more my speed.
I see on your website that you live in The Virgin
Islands. Is that the best thing ever?
Yup. It is amazing! I love the warm temperatures, the warm turquoise
water, the sandy beach I live on, the breezes off the water. I even love seeing
the mongoose, slowing down for the goats and horses in the road, and the lush
vegetation that occasionally gets in the way of traveling to a destination. Life
is slow here and I
like that. It allows a person to enjoy each day for what it
will bring and not look back at the end of the day and wonder where the time
went. For my writing, I usually lie out on the beach and think of a scene as
the sun warms me up. Then I take a dip in the ocean and I’m refreshed and ready
to tackle whatever is next. Once the sun goes down, I start writing . . . if we
have electricity. We lose it about once a week, but it’s a small price to pay.
Do you have any behind the scenes little tidbits about
Passion’s Poison that you could share with us?
Well, I did have a whole first
chapter that got deleted. The first scene was originally Bea with one of her
one-night stands, but I had a number of people in contests take issue with it,
so I cut it out. To expel her poisons, Bea goes to the city and hangs out at
conference hotels and picks up a man that would be interested in her. She
sleeps with him, expelling her poisons. She needs to do so three times to have
a week of healthy living. Showing her actually doing this though, didn’t go
over so well :-}
If I had the
power to put you in your favorite book, what book would that be?
It would have
to be MASQUE. I love the idea of ghosts who solidify with the full moon. Okay,
and I admit, the Pleasure Rooms of the Masque are intriguing too.
And lastly,
let’s play a game of This or That – and you have to pick one J
Shark Bite or Zombie Bite –
Shark Bite (I’ve been diving with a couple anyway)
Win a million dollars or Add 20
years to your life – Add 20 years to my life (money has limitations)
Eat a jar of Mayonnaise or 15
hard boiled eggs – hard boiled eggs (Though I’d probably get sick on either)
