Even Better by Skye Warren (Review)

Title: Even Better
Series: Stripped #2.5
Author: Skye Warren
Released: September 20, 2015
Format: Ebook
Pages: 91 per Amazon

A story about how coming together can break us apart…

An old military friend of Blue’s comes to stay with us, and suddenly I have two muscled men surrounding me. Before I can take a breath, we’re diving into something dirty together—something dangerous. Dangerous because three is a crowd.

This is Blue’s best friend, and one of us will have to leave.

We met, and consequently fell in love with, Blue and Lola in Better When It Hurts.  Theirs is a complicated relationship, and still very new.  However, I believe they are as rock solid as any couple could be.  That is, until I read the blurb for Even Better.  Was it true?  Was Skye Warren going to rip apart one of my favorite couples?? There's no way I could just let this sit.  I had to find out!!

Vice by Rosanna Leo (Review & Excerpt)

Title: Vice
Series: Standalone
Author: Rosanna Leo
Release Date: September 22, 2015 - Samhain
Format: Ebook received for review
Pages: 226 per Amazon

As a Vegas singer and volunteer counselor, Kate Callender has experienced life on both sides of Sin City’s bright lights. The thrill of performing, and gambling’s devastating effect on the addicts’ families.

Liam Doyle is just the kind of man she despises—a handsome, enigmatic businessman with a knack for seducing customers into his casino hotels. Determined to put a lid on his growing influence, she prepares to picket the opening of his newest casino, Vice.

When Liam spots the lone protestor hassling his customers, annoyance wars with instant attraction. And he quickly discovers the leggy redhead not only can’t be bought, she tempts him the way the sound of a roulette wheel lures a gambler.

They are natural enemies, but when a vile attack sparks Liam’s protective instincts, they begin a sexual odyssey that dances on the edge of addiction. Dangerously close to losing control...and losing themselves.

I love Rosanna Leo.  She is absolutely one of the nicest authors I've had the pleasure of getting to know, and I've worked with her quite a bit.  So when the offer for Vice came along, I was more than happy to take it on for review.  I'll be the first to admit - the billionaire and the broke (as in poor) woman is not my favorite plotline.  However, Vice also offers romance by the way of enemies-to-lovers, which I love.   There are also some pretty heavy subjects explored in Vice, so I was a happy reader.

Aflame by Penelope Douglas (Review)

Title: Aflame
Series: Fall Away #4
Author: Penelope Douglas
Released: April 21, 2015 - Penguin
Format: Egalley
Pages: 262 per Goodreads

The tables have turned. Now I have the power—and it’s his turn to beg…

Everyone wants to be me.

Maybe it’s the sway of my skirt or the way I flip my hair, but I don’t care. Even though their attention is the last thing I crave, I just can’t stop. I dominate the track, the speed rattles my bones, and the wind and the crowd screams my name.

I’m her. The girl driver. The queen of the race. And I’m surviving—something he thought I’d never do.

They all still talk about him. Did you see Jared Trent on T.V? What did you think of his last race, Tate? When is he coming back to town, Tate?

But I refuse to care too much. Because when Jared does come home, I won’t be here.

Tatum Brandt is gone. I’m someone new.

Man, I love this series.  It is undoubtedly one of my favorites.  Penelope Douglas ends it on a perfect note, revisiting Tate and Jared in Aflame, too.  If you haven't read this series, I implore you to.  Seriously - you will not regret it.

Call On Me by Roni Loren (Review)

Title: Call On Me
Series: Loving On The Edge #8
Author: Roni Loren
Released: July 7, 2015 - Berkley
Format: EGalley
Pages: 448 Pages

Oakley Easton wants two things: to be a good mom to her daughter and to ditch her less than ideal night job. Hooking up with bad boy drummer Pike Ryland? Not on the agenda. She needs a promotion. Not sex, tattoos and rock ’n’ roll.

Pike isn’t about to let Ms. Prim and Proper shut him down so easily, especially when he stumbles upon Oakley’s sexy night job. She’s only playing a role on those late night calls with strangers, but when he gets her on the line, all bets are off. He won’t stop until that sultry voice is calling his name for real.

But as they move from anonymous fantasies in the dark to the flesh-on-hot-flesh reality of the bedroom, the risk of falling in love becomes all too high. And the safe, quiet world that Oakley’s worked so hard to create is about to be exposed to the one person who could ruin it all.

I'd read another book in this series, and it wasn't really for me.  But then my friend Christy from Christy's Love of Books insisted that I read Call On Me.  I was hesitant, I won't lie.  I kept putting it off and putting it off.  Big mistake.  This book was beyond awesome, and I loved every minute!

Borden by RJ Lewis (Review)

Title: Borden
Series: Borden #1
Author: RJ Lewis
Released: August 1, 2015 - Millstream Publishing
Format: Personal Purchase
Pages: 281 per Goodreads

Marcus Borden has always been used to power and control. After a crime-filled upbringing in a very harsh neighbourhood, Borden leaves his hometown, returning four years later mysteriously rich and unrecognizable, with one woman on his mind.
A woman he'll never have.
Pained by his devastating loss and filled with rage and guilt, Borden's world turns dark.

As a fiercely independent woman, Emma Warne knows all about hard living. Having kept to herself most of her life, the last thing she expects is to be thrust into the world of infamous criminal Marcus Borden, the dangerous man the entire city fears and loathes. But the more she pushes him away, the more he comes back, taking over her life and stripping her of her control she desperately clings to.

Once Borden has his sights on her, Emma is going nowhere anytime soon, and what she doesn't expect least of all... is that she may not want to either.

Ok, before reading this book I'd never heard of this author or this book.  Now I've read Borden, and I am instant fan - and eagerly awaiting book two.  Borden was a fantastic story that sometimes took a route I wasn't expecting, and I loved it.

Creak by Elizabeth Morgan (Review)

Creak on AMAZON

Title: Creak
Series: Standalone
Author: Elizabeth Morgan
Released: September 7, 2015 (2nd Edition)
Format: Ebook received for review
Pages: 92 per Amazon

“What happens in Silver Creek…stays in Silver Creek.”

After spending the summer as a recluse due to a bad break-up, Nicole Saunders agrees to go to The Heat Wave Festival with her best friends, Kacey and Tyler.

Along with three other friends, they plan to take a shortcut through the small town of Silver Creek. The last thing any of them expect is to become lost and end up pulling into a motel for the night.

The Creek Motel is isolated and the last place Nicole wants to be, especially after meeting the glacial owner. But her discomfort is soon forgotten as she finally gives in to her feelings and asks Kacey and Tyler to spend the night with her.

This should be bliss, but it quickly turns into a nightmare when she discovers that one of their friends has mysteriously disappeared from her locked room in the middle of the night.

Worried, Nicole presumes the worst, but she will soon discover that isolation can be the perfect stage for those who have something to hide…and that Jayne's disappearance is more disturbing than any of them could have guessed.

I love Elizabeth Morgan.  She writes horror perfectly, and she manages to slip in the sexy.  Eroti-horror... is that a genre?  If not, it should be, because it's one of my favorites.  And in Creak, she definitely turns it up a notch.

This is the type of story that makes a perfect date movie. Nikki is getting over a douchebag ex, and her two best friends, Kacey and Tyler, are going to try to help her get out of her self imposed hibernation.  Oh yeah, Kacey and Tyler are both guys.  They help her, alright!  Hint hint, baby.

Road trip!!!  What good horror story starts any other way?  Creak was creeptastic, and Elizabeth Morgan set it up so well.  A group of twenty-somethings on their way to an awesome time get sidetracked and need to pull over for the night.  One thing leads to another, drinks are drank (drunk? ahh, who knows), and the temperature gets hot for our heroine.  We are talking m-f-m hot.  Let me tell ya - it was fantastic.  It made me forget for a brief moment that something bad was supposed to happen.  But bad is coming, and it a big way.

Creepy motel, drunken friends, dark of night.... I won't spoil it for you, but Morgan did a fantastic job of giving me the chills.  If you are a fan of horror movies like I am, then you are going to love this one.  Just be sure to leave the light on, and ignore that noise you heard behind you.  It's an old building ya know, sometimes it creaks.
