As the Christmas season is ripped apart by the news that Jess’ old friend Alex has been turned into a vicious killer, festivities are dropped, Jess returns to England and the hunt begins. But Alex isn’t the only one being hunted, for Mary has found a way to extinguish the entire bloodline of Malden witches, and it is Jess’s book of shadows that’s the key. As things hot up, Jess finds she must leave Daniel and the safety of Manchester in a final hunt for her nemesis, Mary. In a fight-off that only one of them can survive, loved ones will fall… daemons will rise… but who will survive?

Well here we are, the last book in the series. I’ve been lucky enough to read every book so far, and it’s been a hell of a ride. WitchHunt does not disappoint, that’s for sure. Emma Mills has definitely kept up her steady pace of action, drama and mystery to pack a final punch in the world of vampire-witch bybrid, Jess.

In this final book we saw the return of the main characters. Jess, of course, and Daniel and Eva. But also Brittany and the coven from the States. The angels were included too, along with meeting some new ones. Mary, Cole’s sister, is back too – and she is pissed off in a big way. Since the majority of these characters have been with us virtually the whole way, I won’t go over them again. But I definitely love them, and I feel like they have really grown over the last four books. The actual time table for the story is under a year, but so much has happened it really feels like more.

One thing I like about this series is that in each book there are multiple big things that happen. It’s not all just leading up to one climax and then its over, but rather a veritable rollercoaster. WitchHunt is a fun trip, and it definitely had more than its fair share of nail biting moments. There are some instances where I wish that the story went a little bit more in depth, a little more detailed. I felt like some of the very awesome action scenes were a bit rushed through. I did have to go back a couple times and read a page over to make sure of what has really happened in the story.

Jess and Daniel really get quite closer in WitchHunt and I was super excited for it. I really love them as a couple, and I was glad that this book did not really focus so much on any struggle between them. If you are looking for heat, it’s not really there. Their behind the doors love is behind the doors. However, there are some definite sensual moments leading up to the hidden moments.

Overall there was a lot happening in this book, it’s one thing right after another. But everything flowed together and it was an exciting book to read. I think if you enjoy YA paranormal, then this is definitely a good book. WitchHunt had a bit more gore, I think, than the others in the series. It even had a few more 18+type situations. But hey, Jess is getting older and I think it’s great that the series has grown with her. So if you were to ask me if I recommend this series, it would be a definite yes. It’s definitely one to start with the first book though, don’t jump in mid-series.

Witchlove, the third installment of the Witchblood series, is a new adventure that takes Jess from New England to Voodoo country in the South.

This story continues a couple months after the last one ends.  Jess is about to go to court for killing Cole while being held prisoner in the cellar.  Since Daniel and Eva have not shown up since then, they are still thought to be dead. So with that in mind, someone else has to provide a place for Jess to live while she is learning about her witch side.  That's where her coven side of the family comes in.  They offer to provide a home and tutelage for her until she passes the tests necessary to become an independent individual.  Bonus, they also agree that her new friend Brittany can come.

The action and suspense continued with this book, and I was not let down.  Emma Mills has managed to keep the storyline fresh and intriguing, while introducing new characters and dramatic plots. I loved seeing Jess come to America, but I only wish she had explored more of it.  For the most part, when it comes down to it, it takes place at her family's home.  Luckily the home and the surrounding grounds are large and varied that you don't feel like you are stifled.  And its not like the entire story takes place there, but it just would have been fun to see her very English side interact with our very American ways.

I love how Jess is growing to be such a mature young woman in such a relatively short time.  When all is said and done, its only been six months since her transformation.  But she is showing a large capacity for love and forgiveness, and growing more and more independent every day.  And her new friend Brittany is certainly a lot of fun, and I think she is a great addition to the story.

I'd definitely recommend this series to my friends.  It takes the time to shift focus from vampire side to witch side, so you get to know both very well.  There are surprises around every corner, and I found myself yelling "yeah!" once or twice during this story.  It's great to watch how Jess deals with new circumstances and how she handles herself.  I'm anxiously awaiting book four.

As the dead bodies of human girls begin to stack up, and her recently accepted vampire boyfriend, Daniel, finds himself in prison, Jess goes on a crazy, forbidden trip to London, racing against time to save an old friend and solve the mystery behind Daniel’s incarceration. In battling new enemies and finding new friends, Jess’s confidence finds room to grow, but who will she lose along the way?

Witchcraft is book two in the series, and honestly – I wasn’t sure how I was going to like it. I really enjoyed book one, Witchblood, but sometimes the second book can fall flat. That is not the case with Witchcraft! It is definitely a terrific addition to the series.

The book starts out with action, and it keeps the pace up the entire book through, and that’s just how I like it. There is still plenty of things going on in Jess’s life; she's still learning about all of her abilities - vampiric and witch. At times I thought it was just gratuitous action possibly, like the events were so short that they didn’t really feel like they belonged. However, they did do a good job of either introducing new characters or giving background and history for some events to happen later. So even though at the time it felt a little bit short, it wasn’t later when everything came together.

I also think that Jess’s character has grown quite a bit. It’s not like this book takes place far in the future, she’s still only a couple months into her new life. But she is definitely not as whiney and she is also more independent with her actions and her thought process. I definitely liked that, and it keeps me excited for book three, WitchLove.

Romance still isn’t really a focus in this series, which is also a welcome change. I read a lot of romance, so its nice to have something that puts it on the second string. However, with that said, I would love to see a novella or something with Jess and Daniel. Why? Because I feel bad for Daniel! He is really kind of getting the short stick in all of this. He loves Jess right away and expects a future with her, but her ability to have free will really throws a wrench in that. In book two things aren’t much different. She professes her love, but I don’t really think she proves it at all. I can understand all of Daniel’s insecurities regarding Jess and her heart. So yes, I feel bad for the vampire.

I am definitely enjoying this series. The reading goes fast and I find myself itching to start the third book right away. Unfortunately I have to wait a couple days. But I do have a review post on the Witchblood tour coming up later this month, so definitely come back and check it out then!

With Luke pronounced ‘off-limits’ and the blood of a vampire simmering in Jess’s body, can she forget the love of her life and move on? If not, she will risk exposing the entire Northern vampire clan to untold dangers, in order to live her life the way she wants.

Can Jess be sure that Luke is all he appears to be? Will she succumb to the attraction she desperately tries not to feel for Daniel? And why does she still crave a packet of crisps more than a tasty teenage boy’s blood?

If you are looking for a different young-girl-turned-vampire story, I think this is it. Daniel starts off as the mysterious stranger in the bar with burnt chocolate eyes. Jess sees him, and she’s attracted. But she has a boyfriend whom she loves, Luke. But Daniel sees her too. They have a brief conversation that really leads nowhere. Jess’s evening ends with her being mugged in the alley and left for dead… or vampires.

The rest of the story is her becoming a vampire, learning to be the new person that she is, and dealing with the changes that brings about. It was really rather interesting to watch her grow and change, and watch how the people around her reacted to her changes. Of course she has to let her old life go, but there are definitely instances when the past and the present collide.

I found the characters to vibrant and compelling. I really liked Jess. I think there are a lot of terrific things in store for her. At times she did get a bit whiney, but she is a teen whose life has been turned upside down. And above and beyond that, she discovers her old life might not have been all she thought it was either. I’m excited to see what is to come for her in the next book. Her emotions were very real and at the surface. At times they caught me a bit unprepared. I really like that feeling of being caught of guard.

I really liked Daniel, too. He seemed like a quiet and powerful presence, I really felt he was capable of much more than he let on. He seems to have an infinite well of patience, which can only come from time or love. And in his case, it seems to be both.

Eva is another character I found wildly interesting. She comes and goes in this story, you don’t really get too in depth with her. But she was definitely a breath of fresh air at times. She was able to pull off the scary vamp role, along with the seductress and mentor roles as well.

There are a lot of things that switch it up in Witchblood. I mean, it’s not called Witchblood for nothing, so you will have to read it to find out what that is all about. But if you are into YA PNR, I think you will definitely enjoy reading this book.
