Review, Simmer by Kaitlyn Davis for Tribute Books

Title: Simmer (Midnight Fire #2)
Author: Kaitlyn Davis
Published: April 2012
Format: Ebook provided by Tribute Books for review

"Slowly, like a whisper almost blown away in the wind, two words streaked across her mind: 'Kiss me.'"

Kira may have survived the eclipse, but her troubles are far from over. She's headed to Sonnyville with one goal in mind: to learn more about her parents. But with Luke and Tristan competing for her heart and Diana gunning for her head, time is running out on the search for her mother. And the closer Kira gets to answers, the more terrified she becomes. The conduits fear her, the vampires fear her, and Kira is starting to wonder if maybe they're right...

Simmer is book 2 in the Midnight Fire series.  You can check out my review for the first book, Ignite, below or click HERE.

Simmer starts with Kira packing for “conduit boot camp” as she calls it, a few months after Ignite ends.  Luke and Kira are going to Sonnyville for a couple months.  Of course, Tristan can’t go.  I mean, it is a whole town of vampire killers.  So instead Tristan is going to hunt down Diana.  Right away I am saddened by Kira and Tristan’s goodbye.  I just don’t want them to be apart.  When you get a couple you really like, you want them to be together.  And besides, at this point, I’m not entirely sure I want her to be alone with Luke for a variety of reasons.  It’s not that I don’t trust him, because I do.  But as much as Kira has, I’ve invested myself in Tristan and I don’t want anyone messing with that.

“If there was anything her new, slightly insane, life taught her, it was sleep whenever you got the chance because you never know when a vampire was going to come along and try to flip your car over”

I am really digging this series.  There are more secrets than you can shake a stick at, and lots of drama and love triangles to keep you busy and entertained.  There are more battle scenes in this book than the first, and I thought they were awesome.  I love action scenes!

Tristan is still mischievous and broody as in the first book, and I love him even more for it.  And the devotion between Kira and Tristan is exactly what I want to see in a romance such as theirs (hello?!  Opposites attract, them against the world!)

There are a lot of plot twists in this book as Kira is determined to find out more about a certain someone (I am keeping their identity a secret since I’m also posting the review for the first book today also).  I really love how determined Kira is.  And as she discovers exactly how powerful she is (hint: super duper powerful) I love how she manages to roll with it.  She isn’t running from what she is, she is embracing it.  And she’s got her two best guys by her side, even if they are sworn mortal (immortal?) enemies. This trio is near perfect, even for the flaws and fights.

I definitely think you should give this series a try.  Like I said in my previous review, it really takes a unique spin on all the vampire stuff.  And Kira’s sun-channeling power is pretty darn cool, and I can’t wait to see what other powers she develops.
