After crawling her way out of Hell, Six is ready to cast aside her angel wings and all the responsibilities that come with them. But Earth is not as peaceful as she imagined it. Demons, dark angels, and other hell-beasties escaped before her, and they're not as content as she is to live a quiet life on Earth.
A fellow angel who escaped Hell with her commits a series of soul-murders, destroying human souls so they can't go to the afterlife. Although Six has conflicting feelings about humans, she goes after the other angel to keep their escape a secret from the one she fears most.
Fictional Candy: First, lets talk about your book, Don’t Call Me Angel. Can you tell our readers today a bit about this story?
Alicia Wright Brewster: Don't Call Me Angel is an urban fantasy novella about a fallen angel, named Six, who just escaped from Hell. Six sees things differently than most people. She's angry at the world for her time in Hell, and she's discovering Earth for the first time. Throughout the series, we'll see her make a lot of mistakes while finding her way. Should be fun!
FC: I love stories with demons! Was it difficult to create this world for Six to live in?
AWB: It was difficult and exciting. One of the awesome things about writing fantasy and science fiction is the opportunity to create something that could never exist in the real world. If you like demons, stay tuned for the second book in the series. ;)
FC: Now, I’ve cheated a bit and read the first chapter on Goodreads that you had posted. It sounds like a fabulous start to the story! Is there anything in particular you’d like for your readers to take from your writing?AWB: I'd just like them relax, have fun, and enjoy!
FC: Alicia, I’ve worked with your sister-in-law, Kenya Wright, previously on one of her books. How do you like working with her to promote your book, Don’t Call Me Angel?AWB: Kenya and I work well together because we are both similar and different. We have strong opinions, and we argue a lot. But we also both have a sense of humor, so we we can argue while having fun and getting stuff done. And of course, I'm really grateful to her for organizing this tour. I'm going to have to refrain from calling her bad names for the rest of the day. Bummer, because I had some good ones planned!
FC: Ok, here is a tough question: If you could bring any character from any book to life for one day, who would it be and why?
AWB: Curran from the Kate Daniels series. He's dreamy! I'd do so much stuff to him . . .
FC. Do you have a favorite genre to read?
AWB: If you'd asked me two years ago, I would have said "fantasy" and called it a day. But being on Goodreads has opened my mind. I'm reading more science fiction than I used to, and I've branched out to urban fantasy and adult paranormal romance. Honestly, I just don't know which is my favorite.
FC: What do you have planned for the future? Are there any exciting projects coming up?
AWB: I'm currently rewriting a novel, Echo, which will be published early next year. I also have some notes for three other projects: an upcoming YA urban fantasy series, a short novel about a group of people who find a magical artifact, and the next book in the Forsaken series (of which Don't Call Me Angel is the first).
FC: How about Social Media? It seems to be nearly required in order to get your book out there and talked about these days. How do you feel about it all? Do you have any favorite outlets?AWB: I'm on Twitter, Facebook, and Goodreads. I've recently joined LibraryThing too, but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing there. I try to have fun with social media. I don't make it all about me and what I'm writing. I'm a person in addition to being an author, and it's a lot more fun for me if I show that side of myself rather than the business side all the time. If people like me enough to try out my books, well that's cool!
