Title: Prisoner

Authors: Annika Martin & Skye Warren
Published: October 23, 2014
Format: Ebook received for review
Pages: 310

He seethes with raw power the first time I see him—pure menace and rippling muscles in shackles. He’s dangerous. He’s wild. He’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.

So I hide behind my prim glasses and my book like I always do, because I have secrets too. Then he shows up in the prison writing class I have to teach, and he blows me away with his honesty. He tells me secrets in his stories, and it’s getting harder to hide mine. I shiver when he gets too close, with only the cuffs and the bars and the guards holding him back. At night I can’t stop thinking about him in his cell.

But that’s the thing about an animal in a cage—you never know when he’ll bite. He might use you to escape. He might even pull you into a forest and hold a hand over your mouth so you can’t call for the cops. He might make you come so hard, you can’t think.

And you might crave him more than your next breath.

So this week I read Prisoner, which releases TODAY.  Trust me when I say "Buy this book RIGHT now."  If you like it dark, sexy and dangerous - this is the book for you.  Annika Martin and Skye Warren deliver a crazy hot story - the first in a series, and it's not to be missed.

"I'll always come for you.  You're mine"

Abigail, she's a college sophomore working on a project where she needs to go to a prison and work with prisoners to get their stories, which will then be published.  She's kind of a meek person.  She had a wild childhood, and not in a good way.  She's generally not the kind of character that I go for right away, but something about her, I like her.  And she definitely grows and changes throughout this story.  She begins as this quiet little caterpillar and morphs into this beautiful and dangerous butterfly.  The girl turns woman and shows a well of strength and sensuality and intelligence that knocks Grayson on his feet.

He's flanked by two guards - escorted by them, I guess you'd say.  But they seem more like an entourage than anything.  Power vibrates around him like a threat.

And ahhhhhh, Grayson.  OMG.  I love a bad boy, the badder the better.  He's a bad man, there's nothing that's boyish about this predator.  Grayson isn't loud and boisterous.  He's calm and quiet, other than when he needs to be loud with no misunderstandings of what he's saying.  This man is dirty sex.  This man is a great white shark.  This man is a missile.  He's one of the prisoners in the jail, but roles are about to change. When Grayson says "She's mine."  I fucking melt in a puddle on the floor. The power that emanates from him is like thunder and lightening on a hot summer night.

This story takes you on a wild ride.  You get Abby and Grayson's histories, which are tragic in the very worst of ways.  You get their present, which is an adrenalin fueled sex bomb (which we luckily get to see detonate many times!!) Vengeance is the name of the game, and Grayson is determined to be the reaper.

What is also amazing in this story are the other characters, which, for the most part are Grayson's friends, his brothers.  There's one who I think I hate, but then he redeems himself.  There's another who is nicknamed The Saint, and he is one of the most lethal in the crew.  And there is another who has tried to live in the regular world, rather than on the fringe.  And even a few others who you just get glimpses of.  Together they make this amazing puzzle of people with a common history.  I'm so excited to see who is next, I can barely contain myself.  I'm hoping it's a man named Calder, but time will tell!  Abigail has a secondary character too, her college advisor.  This lady is something else, and I really feel there is so much more than meets the eye with her.  She seems to know more than she lets on, and I definitely want to know more.

The action is heart pounding.  The sex is extraordinary.  The plot line is fascinating.  The characters are full of life and multidimensional.  This story.  Sigh.  These authors pairing up created something truly beautiful.

Pride fills me, but I can't think about that for long.  Because her inner muscles are squeezing me tighter than any fist.  Her wetness is slicking and sliding over me wetter than any tongue.  And all I can do is shout a useless denial before I'm coming too, spilling into her hot cunt, biting down on her neck so that neither of can deny who owns who.

Wait, let me talk about Grayson and Abby together! They have instant chemistry that is white hot.  Their relationship burns and grows into this living thing... the bond that grows between them is strong, it's nearly tangible.  You feel like they aren't two separate people in a relationship, but truly each one is the half that the other is missing.  I love them so hard.  They are the epitome of what I like to see in a dark romance such as this.  Call it dubious, call it fate, call it whatever you want, but when these two people crash into each other it is nothing short of cosmic.

Damn.  Just read this book.  If you like it dark, sexy, and dangerous, you will love this.  Skye and Annika worked together so well, and I've read each separately, that you can't tell who does what and it's just seamless. Definitely a five star read that's going on my favorites list that I will probably keep gushing about until book two comes out!
