Cranberry Blood by Elizabeth Morgan (Review)

Title: Cranberry Blood
Series: Blood #1
Author: Elizabeth Morgan
Published: August 2014
Format: Ebook received for review

Killing Vampires? Easy.
Tracking someone? Simple.
Helping, and protecting a Vampire slayer . . . . Bloody hard work!

Thirteen years ago, Brendan Daniels made a deal with a psychic. In exchange for information on the whereabouts of a Rogue Werewolf, he promised to help and protect Sofia's granddaughter. Unfortunately, he had no idea what he was letting himself, or his Pack, in for.

Nothing about Heather is simple, from her weird dietary needs to her life’s mission. The girl can handle herself, but the promise to protect her soon becomes a need, and one he can't fully understand.

Vampire Slayer.
Born Infected.
Addicted to blood . . . but not by choice.

Heather Ryan is the current Slayer in a long family line. Like all before her, she has spent her life searching for her ancestor, Marko Pavel, the Vampire her family has sworn to kill. If that isn't complicated enough, she is also a born "Infected", and to keep her from becoming insane or giving in to her darker side, she is on a very strict diet.

Now that her Grandmother Sofia has passed, it is up to Heather to take the family legacy into her own hands. Or at least, it would have been...if her Grandmother hadn't sent a Werewolf to help her.

What is the irritating Brendan supposed to help her with? Sofia never told either of them. Luckily, it doesn't take long for Heather and Brendan to find out that the Vampires have big plans, and that the Leeches have waited a long time for them both.

Cranberry Blood is the first full novel in the Blood series.  In She-Wolf we met Clare and owen, and fell in love with them as they came together.  Cranberry Blood goes in a bit of a different direction with Heather and Brendan.  It's definitely more Urban Fantasy than PNR.

Now in this book, vampires take more of a presence than wolves.  Brendan is a werewolf, and Heather is a vampire hunter.  Seemingly two people on the same side of things.  A little bit of fate with some help from a clairvoyant meddling grandmother throw them together.  Brendan is to be a protector to the slayer.

Now what I love is that Heather and Brendan have obvious chemistry.  The tension is there.  There are countless times I found myself hoping that it was finally time for them to get it on.  But aside from some stolen touches and kisses, this book remains more UF than PNR, much to my dismay.  But I can only hope they are featured in future books, and will have their time together.

As for the plot, it remained very exciting and carried the high energy level from She-Wolf.  The vampires are a sneaky lot, and it seems like they are always a step ahead, and they definitely want to have umm, ahem, world domination, it seems.

There are a lot of pulse pounding situations, too.  Heather seems to repeatedly find massive trouble, and Brendan is definitely along for the ride.

I'm definitely digging this series.  The characters are all right there, they feel very tangible and real.  There are some I don't like, even on the "good guys" side, and I think that's awesome.  (Yeah, I'm looking at you Phillip!) The wolf pack all make their appearances, and are even more awesome than before.

It doesn't really end on a cliffhanger, but there are definite plot lines open for the next book.  It's super exciting, and I can't wait to read it!
