Review: Devoured & All Over You by Emily Snow

Title: Devoured
Series: Devoured #1
Author: Emily Snow
Published: October 2012
Format: Print copy received from publisher  (Thank you Simon and Schuster, & Touchstone!)

Sienna Jensen had no plans to return home when she graduated college last spring—after all, her dreams lie in California. But when she discovers her grandmother’s Nashville home has been foreclosed, and the new owner has started the eviction process, Sienna has no other choice but go back to Music City. And she comes face to face with the flawed, gorgeous man she never thought she’d see again. The man who now holds the deed to her grandma’s estate.

When millionaire rock star Lucas Wolfe finds the outspoken redhead glaring at him from across a courtroom, he’s both infuriated and intrigued. He still can't get the night Sienna almost spent with him out of his mind, and the chemistry between them is as undeniable as it was two years ago. He craves Sienna more than ever. And just like everything Lucas hungers for, he’s determined to have her.

Now, Lucas will do whatever it takes to lure Sienna into his bed, even if that means making a deal with her: ten days with him, playing by his rules, and he’ll hand over the deed to her grandmother’s home. Though she agrees to the arrangement, Sienna is conflicted. Because of her duty to her family. Because of promises she’s made to herself and a past that still haunts her. And as Lucas’s game of seduction continues, and Sienna is introduced to his dark, erotic world and even darker background, she realizes that at any moment, she could be devoured.

Love is messy. Whether it is good, bad, or otherwise, it is just messy. I started the Devour series out reading All Over You, which is a pre-series novella. So I am just including that in with this review. In All Over You we meet Sienna and Lucas, and they also meet each other.

Sienna is kind of quiet and meek, but yet she is still intriguing. She is a wardrobe person on LA, currently working on the set of Your Toxic Sequel’s next video. I wish she would stand up to people more, like her boss and her mother. Aside from that, you can tell this girl is magnetic. And then she bumps into Lucas in the hall. Literally.

Lucas – whew. Right away I have stars in my eyes. He’s tall, dark, and sexy. And it would seem he likes to be in control, no matter the situation. In All Over You he is a major jerk. Seriously, the guy is an asshole. But the author did something really great, she told the story from both Sienna’s and Lucas’ point of view, so you can see why he is the way he is. And then you won’t hate him. And I don’t.

Not even after he convinces her to go on a date. Not even after the date is the worst date ever known in history. And after that date we head into book one, Devoured.

Devoured starts off with Sienna rushing home to Nashville because her grandma’s house – the house her grandpa built, and the house she grew up in – is being foreclosed on. And who turns out to be the one buying it? Heheh, yep, Lucas.

Right away Lucas is on Sienna. He hasn’t forgotten her, and she sure as hell hasn’t forgotten him. She puts up a good show though, she gives it a good effort to resist him. But come on, this guy is sex personified, lust magnified. And it isn’t long before he devises a plan to have Sienna at his side for ten whole days.

I really want this to work out for them. I think if they both just come clean with their feelings, their histories, their everything, that they could make it work. The personal assistant plan was genius. I can’t even be mad at Kylie, Lucas’ regular assistant and sister, for her part in it.

There is one point in the story where Lucas stands up for Sienna, he defends her. This is the exact moment that I know he has me completely. That is the moment I know I am officially a Lucas Wolfe Fan-Girl. But then he is cold again. And hot. And then cold. And then… what? It was painful for everyone involved. This story is all from Sienna’s point of view, so without that added advantage of knowing what Lucas is thinking, we are kind of left to flounder – just like Sienna. It was perfect.

“There are seven more days, “ he reminds me. “There’s so much I can teach you, so much we can do, and after that…”

I roll my eyes, but I can’t deny that he’s affected me by what he’s said and the way he’s looking at me. It should be illegal for any man to have such a magnetic, irresistible effect. “I’m good.” I say.

“For now.”

“No, for –“ In twenty years if you ask me who initiated the kiss, I still wouldn’t be able to tell you. It’s that sudden, that breathtaking, and all-consuming. Lucas’s tongue glides across my lips, tracing the outline of them – once, twice, a third time and then once more. I cry out and my backside slumps onto the desk behind me because my legs are trembling so violently. He makes a noise that’s part curse, part moan, and enough to send me over the edge. I splay my hands out on either side of his chest, digging my fingertips into the soft fabric of shirt, into his skin, and pulling him into my body.

His hands are locked behind his head because he’s so determined to make me beg before he uses them on me.

And for those of you who like heat – don’t worry, this book has definitely got that! It’s not all about the sex, and the sexual encounters aren’t on every page. But when they do happen, holy cow, they are hot. They are full of need and you get lost in the moment. They are sublime. They are so good you will probably read them over, like I did!

You get to watch Sienna really grow in this book. By the end of it she is so far from where she was in the beginning of All Over You, I just want to applaud her. There was a lot that happened in this story, even though the most of it only took place over a couple weeks. This is definitely one of those books that you just can’t forget easily. You want it to go on and on so you can live forever with these people because they are just than enigmatic and their story is just that divine. This wasn’t a “I’ll fall at your feet as soon as you say the word” story. Nope, the road to their happiness is paved with “sweat and tears” as Sienna’s friend, Tori, puts it. It has quickly made it on to my all time favorites list. I need to know more about Lucas and Sienna. But not just them, oh no. Kylie is a firecracker, and I can’t wait to see her book. And if you take a peak around the author’s website, you will see she does have a book coming up! For right now, I’m on pins and needles waiting for Consumed. I read Devoured in one day, and I know that Consumed will have the same effect on me.

Have you started this series? Are you as in love with Lucas and Sienna as I am? How about those covers?  Some friends and I have tracked down the model, his name is Dusan Novakovic and his fiance, Bojana Popovic.  I don't think you could have gotten a more perfect cover model than Dusan! Oh, and are you like me and wish the lyrics to all of the songs in the books were included?  That is seriously this fan-girl's wish!
