Kylie Warner prides herself on being optimistic, but after finding her best friend in bed with her boyfriend and flunking chemistry, her upbeat attitude has taken a dive. Even an impromptu hook-up with her sexy new chemistry tutor only brightens her mood slightly. After all, it’s not like she’ll ever see the tattooed scholar again…
While he’s a whiz at complex equations, Jonathon Kadisch has trouble when it comes to figuring out women. So when Kylie tells him that she’s pregnant after their night of passion, he’s at a complete loss. He’s prepared to be a good father—unlike his own deadbeat dad—but he’s less prepared to fall for the genuine and alluring blonde bearing his child.
With emotions running high, Kylie wonders if Jonathon’s devotion is out of growing love or looming obligation. And when heartbreak threatens to tear them apart, Jonathon will have to fight for the only girl who’s ever made him feel whole…
Sigh. I haven't read anything to confirm or deny this, but I'm pretty sure this is the last book in the series. I mean, who is left? So with that in mind, it was a bittersweet read. I've really grown to love all of the characters who remain constant in the series, and saying goodbye is not something I am entirely ready for. Double Sigh. With that said, Shatter really ended the series with a bang. With every new book in the series, I'm sure I won't love it more than the one before, and with every new book, it quickly becomes my favorite.
Kylie. Oh the poor girl. You know, she really got the raw deal when she discovered Nathan's infidelity, and worse - that it was with Robin. It was lifechanging, but really - we all met Nate. Is he really worth another tear? Kylie is such a good hearted girl, I've been looking forward to her book. And she really gets run through the wringer in this book. If you thought she was a less-than-critical character or kind of fluffy before, this really is her moment to shine. This girl ROCKS. I don't know how she survived her story, but you just kind of sit back in awe. Erin McCarthy makes Kylie real. She makes me want to know this girl and be a part of her circle.
And Darwin, er... Jonathon. Whatever you want to call him. He is simply adorbs, as Kylie would say. I loved him. He is so sweet and strong, and his logical brain is really quite a turn on . And with the whole pregnancy thing, he really became a superhero in my eyes. He became the epitome of how a man should be with a woman who is pregnant. Their less than ideal situation became tangled and twisted, and he stood at the end of the rope like he knew how to straighten it.
Let's talk the story. There's a pregnancy, we learn that in the blurb. Ok, those of you who read the blurbs knew. I didn't. And I was blown away. Shock and awe, people. But much in the way unplanned pregnancies go, you are scared to death, and then before you realize it, before the baby is even born, you are a parent. Kylie and Jonathon have the cores to be the best parents on the planet, and I am totally rooting for them from beginning to end.
Maybe it was the vodka acting as liquid courage, but I felt full of sass and ready to fight for my man.
Because damn it, he was my man.
Whether he liked it or not.
Well. I hope he liked it.
Otherwise that was kind of counterproductive.
But Erin McCarthy really takes you through the paces in this book. There will be tears and heartbreak. Don't forget the loneliness and downright sorrow. Add in a heap of jealousy and a bit of fear... It's really this fantastic rainbow of emotion, and I loved every freaking minute. Jonathon and Kylie definitely know how to heat up the pages, their emotions coming through loud and clear. Seriously, I loved every freaking minute.
And hey, if this is the end of the series you will be glad to know that you get a sneak into the futures of everyone in the group. I couldn't have picked a better ending for this book, or this series, other than having it never ever end. I've truly loved every step of the way. If you haven't picked up this series, I definitely suggest you do.
