Playlist for The Burning Star by Jessie Lane (+ Giveaway!)

The Burning Star
Jessie Lane

Kay’s journey of a lifetime started in the woods outside of Asheville, North Carolina. It was there that the 17 year old met a beautiful man along with a monster. The chance encounter led her to an unbelievable world that shouldn’t exist; a place where myths and fairy tales were real, and in some cases, deadly. Kay knew she would have to brave this new world if she hoped to find a cure for her terminal cancer.

With a strange yet beautiful cast of characters that she would meet along the way, Kay uncovered truths that would change her life forever. However, before it was all over, it would become clear that Kay wasn’t the only one with problems.

Yet another 17 year old young woman was fighting for her freedom and her life.

Kira had lived in a magical world that Kay had only dreamt of. Despite this, her life had not been filled with many good things. As a matter of fact, she considered her empty, emotional solitude the only positive aspect of her life. She fought daily battles to escape abuse and torture.

Trained to be an expert assassin, she was charged with kidnapping Kay and delivering her to Kira’s master, Lord Donovan.

As the two young women set forth in their journeys, their paths would cross in unimaginable ways. The only question that would remain was who would come out alive and whole in the end?

Happy Thursday everyone!!  Today I have a playlist for The Burning Star!!  I just love playlists, they give you a whole new side to a story.  What do you think of this list?

The Burning Star Playlist Part 1
Hey everyone! Today I've stopped by Liz's place here at Fictional Candy to blab about the songs behind The Burning Star. I'm usually jamming to something while I'm writing, and I'm a bit of a music whore, so I thought I'd share these little melodic gems with all of you today! Here we go:

Mayday Parade – The Memory

If The Burning Star had an "anthem", it would be this song. When I first heard it while writing this book back in late 2011, I immediately became smitten with it. For me, this song is from Ryan's perspective, about Kay. His hope in what could be between them, and his desperation by the end of the book.

"She is everywhere go. Everyone I see. Winter's gone and I still can't sleep. The summer's on the way. At least that's what they say, but these clouds won't leave."

This line kind of spoke to me in how Ryan see Kay as this entity that burns brightly in every way. Her personality, her kindness, her inner (and awkward outward) beauty. She's that 'breathe of fresh air' in his stale mundane world at the Summer Court.

"Walk away, I'm barely breathing as I lying on the floor. Take my heart as your leaving, I don't need it anymore."

Oh the SPOILERS this line foreshadows! I'm not going to tell you about them though sorry. Just know that by the end of the book, and at the start of the sequel (The Frozen Star), Ryan is gutted. Hollow. Desperate to get his... heart back.

Mayday Parade – The Silence

Oh this song. The pain. The anger. The desperation to feel love from a certain someone who won't give it to you. This is Kira's song. Although you have to take the romantic aspect of the song away, the bitterness and agony that she endures in the emotional and physical abuse while under Lord Donovan's slavery is told beautifully through The Silence. It's a very moving song that was set on repeat during some of my Kira chapters.

Mayday Parade – Save Your Heart

This is another Kira song. I'll admit, she was a very hard character for me to write. After her abuse, her mental attitude isn't something easy to swallow. She wants freedom and peace, at any cost. So this song was my message of hope so to speak. The hope that Kane could present to her if she would only let him. Save Your Heart has a beautiful message and I hope you all enjoy it!

Avril Lavigne – Alice

I love this song and Avril to a ridiculous degree. This is Kay's song. Can you imagine having your whole world turned upside down? Kay may be a wallflower, but she's a survivor in spirit with a virtual death sentence in the physical sentence. This song reflects on Kay's point of view throughout the book... and inevitable the series.

Paramore – Brick by Boring Brick

This entire song is Kay and Kira and their lives among the Fae.

"Well she lives in a fairy tale
Somewhere too far for us to findForgotten the taste and smellOf a world that she's left behindIt's all about the exposure the lens I told herThe angles are all wrong nowShe's ripping wings off of butterflies
"

Magic, the Fae, secrets, lies, werewolves, romances, quests and so much more. That's this song and The Burning Star in a nutshell. This is another song that was basically set on repeat while I was writing.
"So one day he found her cryingCoiled up on the dirty groundHer prince finally came to save herAnd the rest you can figure outBut it was a trickAnd the clock struck twelveWell make sure to build your heart brick by boring brickOr the wolf's gonna blow it down"

This is half of The Burning Star's playlist. You can find the other half at Cocktails and Books on April 20th!
Thanks for hanging out with my today while I gushed music. It's a big inspiration to my writing, so I hope you enjoy these songs as much as I did.

Crystal and Melissa often live half their lives with their heads in the clouds dreaming of alpha military hunks, werewolves and kick ass heroines crazy enough to chase after creatures that they unquestionably should know better than to chase.

Their first YA novel, The Burning Star, was released in May 2012. Big Bad Bite is their second novel, but their first adult paranormal romance. They are now working on their next two novels, Walk On The Striped Side and Secret Maneuvers. With these projects underway, they are looking forward to showing the rest of the world their crazy stories, heroes and heroines that often plague their minds until written, and hope you will join them on their journey!
