Unexpected Fate by Harper Sloan (Review & Giveaway)

Title: Unexpected Fate
Series: Hope Town #1
Author: Harper Sloan
Published: Feb 17, 2015
Format: Ebook received for review
Pages: 300/Goodreads

Have you ever felt like you were living your life for a future that was predetermined? Like there was some bigger picture you just prayed you would someday see clearly? That picture has been crystal clear to me since I was old enough to recognize it for just what it was.

Or I should say recognize him for who he was.

I’ve loved Cohen Cage since I was a small child. He’s been my everything for the last twenty-two years. I’ve loved him through every girlfriend he’s ever brought home. Through his college years and then mine. I’ve loved him through two deployments. And ever since the day I told him how I felt, he’s acted like I’m a stranger.

My name is Danielle Reid, and it’s time for me to get my man.

Our future is an unexpected fate, and no matter what our parents, siblings, and friends say…it’s going to be worth every second of the fight to make it happen.

Whoa.  I loved Unexpected Fate.  Seriously.  It was awesome.  This book had so many awesome facets and I couldn't put it down.  So let's start, shall we?

The book opens with a prologue showing a young Dani, about to go to prom.  Except her very over protective father vetoes the date at the door and scares him off.  A short while later, family friend Cohen comes to the rescue to take her to the dance.  This prologue (which you can read in other promo posts on this tour) is a bunch of things.  First, we see how crazy protective Dani's father is.  We see that there is surely an attraction between Dani and Cohen, even as teens.  And we see Dani, and even though she really wants to spread her wings, she feels loved by her family.

"When it comes to love, it's always worth the sacrifice.  Always.  One thing my parents taught me was that when you find the reason for your heart to beat, you don't ever let it go, and if, for some reason beyond your control, you have to, you fight with every breath in your body to have it back."

Dani is pretty awesome.  She really tries to bust out of her protective bubble and become her own woman.  She's fun and spunky, quick with the comebacks.  Dani also knows her heart lies solely with Cohen Cage, and that's evident and awesome.  One of the best things I loved about this book was the unwavering strength, love, and support from family and friends.  Time and again I was completely impressed by how wonderful everyone was.  I felt like I just had to know more about them.  I mean, couples were so much in love - I was in awe.  Luckily it turns out, there is a series that deals with them (Corps Security) which I will link below.

"These tits.  Fuck, Dani.  I'm going to fuck these tits," he promises before he bends down to take one nipple between his teeth for a light nip before soothing the pain with his tongue.  "I'm going to fuck them until I come all over your chest, baby.  Then I'm going to eat you until your juices are running down my chin.  And when you're begging me for it, I'll give you my cock."  His mouth returns to my other nipples, and he flicks his tongue over it before pressing his lips around the tight bud and sucking it deep.

Cohen.  Oh lord, this man rattled my cage in every best way possible.  He puts sexy to shame.  Military, tattooed, multiple cock piercings, and such wonderful dirty talking in the bedroom (ahem, or other places) that I was completely blown away by this man.  Not to mention he is oh-so-very-Alpha.  They broke the mold when they made Cohen, because really - the man is just about perfect.  I don't see how it gets any better than him.

Now this book also covered a bunch of events.  Cohen is military special ops, and that features itself prominently.  There is also a very large cast of characters.  At times I had trouble keeping them straight, but by the end of the book I had it all down.  There is also a very dangerous thing brewing where Dani may not be as safe as she would like to think she is.

All in all, Harper Sloan definitely gained a new and eager fan in me.  She created a book that had a great balance of tender moments, heat filled and toe curling sex scenes, and a heart stopping mystery that kept me turning the pages and hunting down more books immediately after I finished Unexpected Fate.  If you like contemporary romance, I'm guessing this book will be a big hit.  It's definitely a five star read for me.

Harper lives in small town Georgia just a short drive from her hometown of Peachtree City. She (and her 3 daughters) enjoy ruling the house they dubbed 'Estrogen Ocean', much to her husband’s chagrin. Harper has a borderline unhealthy obsession with books; you can almost ALWAYS find her with her eReader attached. She enjoys bad reality TV and cheesy romantic flicks. Her favorite kind of hero--the super alpha kind!

Harper started using writing as a way to unwind when the house went to sleep at night; and with a house full of crazy it was the perfect way to just relax. It didn't take long before a head full of very demanding alphas would stop at nothing to have their story told.
