The rules:

No dating.
No sex outside of the game.
No disclosing the terms of the contract.

Rules were made to be broken, right?

Eight weeks ago I signed a contract. One that seemed like a good idea at the time. A handsome bachelor, luxury accommodations, and a chance to win a prize my family desperately needed. There were some rules though. Lots of them actually. Follow the script, no dating, sex, or disclosing the terms of the deal. After my self-imposed moratorium on men the last year, it wouldn’t be hard to live up to my end of the bargain…so I thought. Until I realized the deal I’d made was with the devil…and I was in love with his dirty-talking brother.

Throb by Vi Keeland is an interesting and modern take on romance.  While it probably isn't one of my favorites, I did enjoy it overall.

Cooper is a Hollywood mogul, but he still remains grounded and isn't consumed by the almighty dollar.

Unfortunately, the same can't be said for his brother, Miles, who is going through his inheritance from their father's death fast. Miles' latest "It's going to be a hit!" production is a Bachelor-esque type reality show called Throb.  Of course, Miles needs Cooper and his money... again.  Where Cooper is smart and sexy, Miles is a bit underhanded, greedy and manipulative.

Coincidentally, Cooper just met a woman who drives him terrifically insane - Kate.  Well, as fate would have it, Kate is on Throb, and she's signed a contract to not have any relationship outside of the show.  And she needs to win, the money is not a luxury for her, it's a necessity. Kate is just as attracted to Cooper, but the cards are stacked against him.

But the heart wants what it wants.  And their hearts want each other.  While they meet on the sly, the book really has some very sexy and intense moments.  But when those meetings failed, or the fact that Kate is "dating" someone else on Throb was brought up, Cooper turned into a bit of a brat.  He threw what was effectively a temper tantrum, time and again, stomping his feet when he couldn't get his way.  Outside of their relationship, I found him to be a wonderful character, loyal and loving.  But when these times came up, I really didn't like him very much at all.  He was acting very much like a spoiled child.

On the other hand, Flynn is the love interest on Throb.  Flynn is a guy I really liked.  He's an expressive rockstar who has no problem letting Kate know how he really feels about her.  When they were together I felt sparks.  And I felt bad for him, because he wasn't aware of what Kate was doing outside of the show.  So she led him on a bit, and that lost her points in my view.

One thing is for sure, this storyline serves up the drama, which is always good in a romance.  There were times I had trouble connecting to Kate and Cooper as a couple, but individually I enjoyed bother characters.  Vi Keeland's writing was good, and I had no problem getting into the story.  If you like modern romances, and have a thing for reality tv, I would definitely suggest this book.  It gives you a bit of the behind the scenes look at "find your mate" reality shows, and that was very interesting in itself.

Vi Keeland is a native New Yorker with three children that occupy most of her free time, which she complains about often, but wouldn't change for the world. She is a bookworm and has been known to read her kindle at stop lights, while styling her hair, cleaning, walking, during sporting events, and frequently while pretending to work. She is a boring attorney by day, and an exciting smut author by night!
