Review: One Wicked Night by Emily Quinn

Title: One Wicked Night
Series: No
Author: Emily Quinn
Published: July 2013, Entranced Publishing
Format: Ebook received for review

Angel Jones is a career-driven woman at the top of her game with a big problem: a wickedly handsome boss. It is impossible to get him out of her mind, so her friends talk her into using someone else’s invitation to an exclusive dating service. It’s a dare she can’t resist.

Fernando Durante knows lusting after someone at work is not an option. He has managed to avoid direct contact with her for years, but thanks to a recent promotion, the witty goddess reports directly to him. When a friend emails him an invitation to an exclusive dating service, Fernando accepts against his better judgment.

Will Angel and Fernando let their hearts guide them?

I generally enjoy books based on a one night stand type of situation, especially when they end in a happily ever after for the character.  This book was enjoyable, I did like it, mostly. There were a couple points I had issue with, but overall they didn't affect my enjoyment too much.

First we have Angel, who has a major crush on her boss, Fernando. That right there has me interested.  I was excited to see how they would work together in the workplace.  Unfortunately, I didn't really get to see too much of that, except for one scene that was white hot until it was a bit blue, as in he didn't get "his".  As in our hero was left high and dry.  It was definitely a strike against Angel in my book.  She supposedly feels so much attraction for Fernando, but given the prime opportunity she runs.  Literally. Not only that, but she is continually stand offish and a bit mean to him.  I couldn't compute her actions with her feelings, and it kind of got under my skin.

Then we meet Fernando, who was the saving grace in this book for me.  He was suave and sexy.  He knew he had a major attraction to Angel, and he acted on it when he had the opportunity.  His actions matched his words, and he didn't play games.  Yep, I definitely could see the attraction to this man.

As it turns out, both of these people are itching to get the other out of their system so they sign up with Elite Classified, which is kind of like a personals service.  Only the joke is on them when they come face to face with each other.  The dating service itself kind of felt myterious, which I liked.  However, there were some issues I didn't like - like one of the employees suddenly being on the street next to Fernando, acting cryptic.  It didn't feel professional to me, and if I had been Fernando, I would have cancelled my date through them right there.

There were some scenes that kind of felt like they were thrown in, just for the sake of having them, and ultimately they did detract from my enjoyment.  Some of the dialogue was unbelievable for me.  For instance, when Angel and Fernando get in a heated debate over a work issue, and as her boss he asks her why she wants to go in one direction over another, her answer is "I just know." To me, something like that would be unacceptable in the workplace.

Overall, the actions of the book were pretty good and engaging.  I thought it was a good storyline, and I was excited to see how it played out.  Like I said, there were some detracting issues.  For some, I could see how they could be deal breakers.  For me, ultimately they were not.
