Big Bad Bite: Guest Post/Giveaway with writing team Jessie Lane

Big Bad Bite
Jessie Lane

What would it be like to live in a world where you are considered abnormal to those who are above the norm?

Jenna O’ Conner has been taught her whole life to hide from everyone. Never to let anyone to close enough to know that she would prefer a shotgun for her birthday over of a bouquet of roses. She’s been smothered by her over protective family so that no one learns what she truly is. Which is not human. Nor, is she considered the norm for the supernatural Other community that is benevolent enough to share this world with the humans.

In a desperate attempt to live her own life away from the small town she was raised in, Jenna obtains her dream job as the newest member on the Wilmington Police Department’s SWAT Team. What she didn’t predict was that she would run into trouble her first day on the job, in the form of a deadly, mouthwatering man named Adam McPhee. Who is also not human, but more like a wolf walking around in human skin. He’s determined to figure out exactly what Jenna is, which unbeknownst to him, could very well put her life in danger. He’s also determined to have her all to himself.

As if that wasn’t enough for Jenna to deal with, bad news blows into town. A group of extremist Shifters who think humans are cattle and factions of Others worldwide should stay within their own species - never to intermingle. Chaos ensues. Jenna has to find a way to shut them down, but in the process of trying to do that, discovers things about herself that even she never thought was possible.

Who said the wolf was what you had to worry about?

Welcome to the real world.

Guest Post on the Insanity of Co-Authoring

So what’s it like to write a book with a co-author? Well that’s a very good question. Like everything else in life, this experience, or partnership, has its ups and downs. Luckily it has way more ups than downs though. The following conversation is one example of the many ups Melissa and I have working with each other as we write as ‘Jessie Lane’. We were on chat, and I asked for her help to name a character. The following insanity is the result of that request. Before you read this, in Melissa’s defense, she was half-asleep and medicated for a migraine.

Melissa says: Defend away. But hey, It got the job done…LOL.
(Conversation on Facebook chat)
Crystal - Right now I’m trying to come up with the bad betas name for the Corvus pack. Although Marcus Valerius Corvus was a roman, I was thinking a German name because Corvus took over the area of Germany for his pack in the book.
 Melissa – Peaches.
 Crystal - Bad Mel! Bahahahhaha!
 Melissa - Love Muffin.
Crystal - A bad dude name is not love muffin.
Melissa - Oh u mean like bad guys bad.
 Crystal - Yeah! lol
Melissa – lol. Your mom goes to college.
 Crystal – Goober.
 Melissa -Chester lol.
Crystal - That’s a dork name. Think bad and evil.
 Melissa – Yogi.
 Crystal - You're smokin’ crack aren't you?
Melissa - Migraine meds are NICE.
Crystal - LMAO! Hugh? Gunter? That's a German name.
Melissa - Hunter punter. Lol. Sorry I’ll be serious.
 Crystal - Silly woman!
 Melissa - Damain
Crystal - Not German. Goober. Hugo? Oh! Kaiser! Do you like Kaiser?
Melissa - Achmed, Kaiser Sosai! Love that movie. Wait, what we talking about again.....lmao
Crystal - A German name for the bad werewolf. Get it together woman!
Melissa - Marko
Crystal - Marko is not German woman! How much of those meds did you take?!
Melissa - Marko is on the name page I’m looking at.
Crystal - Your page lied! It’s not German and it's not on my page. Marko is like Italian or something.
Melissa - Malger, and it said "MARKO: Serbian and Slovene form of Greek Markos, meaning "defense" or "of the sea." Also in use by the Basques, Bulgarians, Dutch, Finnish, Germans, and Romani. Compare with another form of Marko." Radulf?
Crystal - Now read what you just sent me silly. It says right there that the Germans used it, but it is not of German origin. Like I said your page LIED to you, lmao!
 Melissa - shush
Crystal - rotflmfao! What about Guy? Guy Schwartz?
Melissa - lmao and u call me a goober?
Crystal - Why does that make me a goober?!?
Melissa - Spaceballs. Let the Schwartz be with you.
Crystal - Whoops. Forgot about that, lmao.

So now you’ve had a look into a day in the life of ‘Jessie Lane’. Melissa and I may want to occasionally strangle each other, but we spend way more time laughing at each other. Regardless of what that conversation shows, I want you to know that we work very hard, and have many serious moments while writing our books (Yeah right!). We hope you enjoyed this example at our supreme goofiness, and before I leave, I’d just like to clarify one thing before it comes back to bite me in the tushy. The only ‘Chester’ I know who’s not a dork is the Chester from Linkin Park. If anybody would like to prove me wrong on this issue, feel free to submit proof in pictures of hopefully hot, half naked men. Thanks guys!

Jessie Lane is the writing team of Melissa Pahl and Crystal Leo. The two sister-in-laws share a passionate love of naughty romance, cliff hanging suspense, and out-of-this-world characters that demand your attention, or threaten to slap you around until you do pay attention to them. Because really, it is ALL about the characters. (They're kind of megalomaniacs - but don't tell them that we said that.)

Crystal and Melissa often live half their lives with their heads in the clouds dreaming of alpha military hunks, werewolves and kick ass heroines crazy enough to chase after creatures that they unquestionably should know better than to chase.

Their first YA novel, The Burning Star, was released in May 2012. Big Bad Bite is their second novel, but their first adult paranormal romance. They are now working on their next two novels, Walk On The Striped Side and Secret Maneuvers. With these projects underway, they are looking forward to showing the rest of the world their crazy stories, heroes and heroines that often plague their minds until written, and hope you will join them on their journey!
