Realm of Secrets
MaryLynn Bast

Schadoh Aphenithea has always looked up to her older sister and willingly follows in her footsteps, venturing out into the new realm where humans and other strange creatures exist.

Unexpectedly, Schadoh meets Dakota who turns out to be her best friend and protector. With the threat of vampires invading Loxy and Earth, she will need all the help she can get when the portal to her realm is closed. She is forced to remain in the earth realm and live as a human. Something she finds is not quite as easy as it looks from the wall of mists. Schadoh must learn to co-exist in the earth realm while keeping the secret that other realms exist.

Sibling Rivalry

In Realm of Secrets, Schadoh is a typical teenage girl who knows everything and comes across a little bratty. The younger sister, she feels she’s invisible and even though she won’t admit it, she’s jealous of Seriana’s abilities. My goal in this story is to show sibling rivalry, even though there really isn’t any and how Schadoh plays on her own imagination and negative thoughts.

Like most children, sibling rivalry raises its ugly head at one time or another, in some cases more often than not. I remember many days lying in bed after getting in trouble for fighting with my little sister, thinking I wish I was an only child. Mind you, I had two brothers too. There was my older brother, me, younger brother, and then younger sister. I have to sit back and laugh at the memories of my older brother and I griping about the younger ones always getting their way, while we had to be responsible. Later I found out they used to sit and connive of ways to get us in trouble, but also gripe about us being older and getting to go places and do things they were too young to do. We were all clueless.

In Realm of Secrets Seriana has no idea that Schadoh even feels envious or why she seems upset all the time and chalks it up to teenage hormones. Coming to the earth realm she tries to protect Schadoh, but the way she handles it is not ideal because she is wrapped up in her own problems trying to find Erick. Schadoh feels ignored and treated like a child when she just wants to grow up, sometimes too fast.

I hope everyone enjoys the tale I weaved and see that although Schadoh is bratty, she does grow and mature through the story. She learns from her mistakes and realizes there is more to life than just getting her way. Enjoy!
