Bayonet Scars is definitely one of my favorite mc romance series. They are hot and sexy, dangerous and a bit dark. JC Emery writes with a style that puts you right there in the moment.
Holly is the heroine in Rev. She's just moved back to town, and it's coming out in bits and pieces that her past isn't so clean. There were drugs and drinking, and maybe even an arrest. But now, she's trying to put everything back together and be the person her family wants her to. At first, I didn't really know what to make of Holly. She seemed a bit uptight, and even a bit naive to have gone through so much. But what I did like was her reactions to Grady, Sergeant at Arms in Forsaken. Through her I felt all the chemistry, and it was intense! And once I saw how much she cared about her job at the highschool, Grady, and Cheyenne, I knew she was good people.
"You fit in here, " he says. "You fit in with me - with us. We don't fit in anywhere, either. So we fit in together."
And just like that, I'm a goner.
Grady - I really liked him. I don't know what it is about Forsaken men. They all seem to be great big jerks, until they meet that one woman, and suddenly they aren't paying attention to club whores, and are lost without her. Don't get me wrong - I love it, and I want it that way. But these guys take being a jerk to the next level. As for Grady, he's a brick wall. Tall, sexy, gruff, and when you least expect it he is completely awesome and down to Earth. I love the sparks between the two of them. The "hate" that turns to lust to love. The fake relationship, while not gone into great detail, was a terrific touch and a great way to bring
There's still the issue of the mafia wanting Alex and her brother back, and there's some mafia henchmen in town. Holly gets in their sites, it's a wrong place wrong time thing. And then they get Cheyenne in their sites too. Cheyenne is Grady's daughter. He is over the top protective of her, more than a bear... he's like an rabid bear on steroids for her. As for Cheyenne, I think the girl is light years ahead in maturity and intelligence, and I love the way she's behind the scenes pulling the strings on so many things between Holly and Grady. And we also see Chey and Jeremy (who is from Thrash, and is Nic's younger brother) get a bit closer. This is great news, because they have a novella coming out soon! This book definitely has some darkness to it. There is a brutal attack against Holly and another woman. It's definitely hard to read, JC Emery knows how to make it terrifying. However, when it comes to the epilogue, light is restores and it's beyond awesome. I have to wonder if it's the last book in the series. The way the epilogue reads, it could be - but I still got my hopes there will be more!
JC writes adult, new adult, and young adult fiction. She dabbles in many different genres including science fiction, horror, chick lit, and murder mysteries, yet she is most enthralled by supernatural stories-- and everything has at least a splash of romance.
