Review: Getting Rowdy by Lori Foster

Title: Getting Rowdy
Series: Love Undercover #3
Author: Lori Foster
Published: Sept 24, 2013, Harlequin
Format: Print copy provided for review

An alpha hero's attraction to the one woman he can't have could draw him into a killer's snare in the sizzling new novel from New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster

Charismatic bar owner Rowdy Yates isn’t the kind of man women say no to. So when he approaches waitress Avery Mullins, he fully expects to get her number. However, the elusive beauty has her reasons for keeping her distance—including a past that might come back to haunt them both.

Avery spends her nights working for tips… and trying to forget the secret Rowdy is determined to unearth. But when history threatens to repeat itself, Avery grows to rely on Rowdy’s protective presence. As the sparks between them ignite, she will be forced to choose between the security she’s finally found… and the passion she’s always wanted...

What do I say about Getting Rowdy? This is the Love Undercover book many of us have been waiting for – myself included. I didn’t read the first book in this series (yet), and I loved the second. Getting Rowdy is the third, and I am absolutely in love with this world that Lori Foster has created.

Rowdy is the tough guy. The Alpha. The man who hasn’t put down roots, and would give up anything in the world to protect his baby sister, Pepper. That’s why we all love him. He seems like he is the bad guy, but we know he is absolutely one of the best guys. Rowdy has a heart of gold, and he is definitely my favorite character out of all of the Love Undercover guys. And hey, let’s not forget to mention that the guy is basically a brick wall. Make that a brick wall who’s found himself falling for a petite redhead named Avery.

I don’t always love the heroines in books. Lori Foster has the ability to make me love them though. Avery is one I loved. This girl thinks with her head, and I like that. But while she does that, she still puts her heart into everything. She’s energetic, caring, and what you might call a firecracker. Don’t mess with her or get on her bad side, that’s for damned sure. And when Rowdy and Avery get together they light the pages up.

In this book there is something from Avery’s past that hasn’t quite realized it’s the past. The suspense part of this novel will definitely keep you on your toes. Lori Foster does a great job of concealing who the actual bad guy is. One moment you think it’s this person, then the next time you think it’s somebody else. I love when I don’t know the answers immediately.

There are some new characters in this book, too. One of them is named Cannon, and I’m not entirely sure what to make of him. He seems like he is the guy who wants to save his neighborhood, but there is definitely more to the story than that. He’s got looks that drive the women wild, and he’s managed to work his way into Rowdy’s world. Is he a good guy or a bad guy? I’m hoping good!

Rowdy patted her hand.  "Sorry, she's had a rough night."

At the breaking point, Avery opened her mouth to blast everyone in the room, but all she got out was "I--" before Rowdy kissed her.

With both nurses watching.

It wasn't a wimpy little kiss.  Nope.  It was a hot, damp, tongue and teasing show of possession.  Whew.  Her insides went liquid and her anger melted away.

Rowdy finally let her up for air, kissing her lips once more, her nose and then her forehead.

Avert wavered on her feet.  Stupidly, as if that explained his behavior, she said, "I'm, ah, the bartender."

Rowdy, blast him, grinned.  "Yes, you are."

Lor
i Foster doesn’t disappoint at all with this book. The action is top notch, right along with the suspense and mystery. In this book there are some really touching and emotional scenes involving a child, and they will definitely reach into your heart and grab hold. There is some heat with Avery and Rowdy, and it is just terrific. I really do just love this pairing. If you’ve read any of the books in this series, I definitely think you should continue on and read Getting Rowdy. If you haven’t, these books will work as standalone, but I think they work even better read in order. And hey, the characters from books one and two are included, so if you do have the time, definitely start from the beginning.
