Hear No
Hidden Evil Trilogy, Book One

Save the world or save her?
Nathan’s job for the past three thousand years has been to clean up supernatural messes. Jaded, ruthlessly effective and selfless, he’s seen it all and can handle anything - demons, homicidal angels, even bad bosses.
His latest challenge: A creature named Shadowman is seeking out three keys it believes will open a portal between earth and hell. Nathan must eliminate the human host guiding Shadowman to the keys. Except Nathan isn’t expecting the woman anchoring Shadowman to the human world to be beautiful, innocent and completely unaware of the creature manipulating her. Worse, she makes him feel alive for the first time in his long existence.
Kaylee convinces herself stress and a tired mind are to blame for the ominous presence following her everywhere. On a routine visit to a client’s workplace, she stumbles across a deaf girl with a supernatural gift who warns Kaylee about Shadowman – and then stabs her.
No longer able to pretend stress is the problem, Kaylee turns to the mysterious man who promised he can help, only to discover his plans for her may not involve her surviving the ordeal. She has nowhere else to go and no one else to trust. Does she take a chance on Nathan or risk facing Shadowman alone?
Behind the Hidden Evil Series
By Lizzy Ford
A few months ago, I was approached by a fan who asked me a question that left me baffled: why aren’t there more physically challenged heroes and heroines in romance novels? The fan is deaf, and she was a little bummed that there aren’t more deaf characters in books.
It’s a great question, and one that I didn’t really have an answer to. The more I thought, the more I realized that it really doesn’t make sense. Sure, most romances feature people who are beautiful on the outside. But, what makes romance novels so popular isn’t that everyone is pretty – it’s that the characters gradually learn to see the beauty on the inside of those they love.
This is what everyone wants, right? For someone to love us for who we are, no matter what we look like or what our physical challenges may be? My most popular characters are those who are so flawed – but who also manage to find love and acceptance. I’ve lived that life and understand how powerful it can be for someone to love you just for being … you. Everyone deserves the chance to experience unconditional love, in my opinion.
So I decided to develop a trilogy of books, playing off the ‘hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil’ idiom. The Hidden Evil series was born, featuring characters that are deaf (“Hear No”), blind (“See No”), and mute (“Speak No.”) These three women hold the keys to preventing the Apocalypse and are caught up in a messy world where they’re being tracked by those who wish them harm as well as those who try to protect them. They work alongside a team of others who are trying to prevent the Apocalypse.
When I announced the project, I was amazed at the amount of support the series received, even before the first book was released. Readers who had deaf family members and friends came out of the woodwork to tell me how much they loved the idea and how much they were looking forward to reading the books.
I was thrilled by the support but also a little saddened to realize just how much of a dearth there is in reading material for people who are different – but still beautiful inside. The original “Hear No” book is what I’d call rated R, but I’m going to develop a PG rated version as well for the younger readers. I feel honored that I can use my writing gift to help others, and I feel like this is a wonderful place to start.
