Bite Size Review: Purgatory Reign by LM Preston

Title: Purgatory Reign
Series: No
Author: LM Preston
Published: May 2013 Phenomenal One Press
Format: Ebook provided for review
Tour: Yes, Sizzling PR

Peter Saint’s life stinks. But things are about to get much worst. First, his parents are murdered in front of him. Then another victim dies in his arms. Visions plague Peter with warnings that something wants him for a sinister cause. It desires the one thing that Peter refuses to give—his blood. Peter carries within him the one gift or curse that could unlock a secret to destroy the human race. On the run with Angel, a scruffy kid, Peter starts to unravel the mystery. It’s the one treasure the heavens sought to hide from the world. Unfortunately, when Peter finds the answer that he hopes will save the girl he loves, he opens the door to a great evil that happens to be salivating to meet him.

I really love stories where someone is on the run. I can’t explain why exactly, I think it just leaves so many things open to chance. Like anything could happen, and those variable ultimately attract me to a book. Purgatory Reign was definitely one of those books that was full of many surprises, and a lot of action.

Peter Saint hasn’t lead an easy life, but its made him who he is. And now, not even he knows who he is. But he does know he is on the move. Along the way he picks up Angel, a young boy who proves to be more than just good company. And then Kyle joins in the picture.  Kyle is a bit reckless, and at times a wild card, but he definitely adds some flair to the story.

This is one of those stories where I liked the supporting cast more than the main character, Peter. Peter seemed a bit boring and predictable for me at time, but I just found Angel and Kyle to be totally interesting, and they grabbed my attention time and again. And let’s not forget the bad guy, Gavin. I love that he was actually a bad guy, not a bad guy who is so desirable that we all want him.

The beginning of this book was a bit slow for me, but the last third really picked up the pace. In a true battle of good versus evil, there is definitely a lot here for the reader who loves those stories. Mystery, intrigue, action, drama, and tons of danger. If that’s what you look for in a book, then this is definitely the book for you.

LM. Preston was born and raised in Washington, DC. An avid reader, she loved to create poetry and short-stories as a young girl. With a thirst for knowledge she attended college at Bowie State University, and worked in the IT field as a Techie and Educator for over sixteen years. She started writing science fiction under the encouragement of her husband who was a Sci-Fi buff and her four kids. Her first published novel, Explorer X - Alpha was the beginning of her obsessive desire to write and create stories of young people who overcome unbelievable odds. She loves to write while on the porch watching her kids play or when she is traveling, which is another passion that encouraged her writing.
