Excerpt/Giveaway: The Right Bride by Jennifer Ryan

The Right Bride
The Hunted Series
Jennifer Ryan

High-powered businessman Cameron Shaw doesn't believe in love—until he falls head over heels for beautiful, passionate, and intensely private Martina. She's perfect in so many ways, immediately bonding with his little girl. Martina could be his future bride and a delightful stepmother … if only Cameron weren't blinded by his belief that Shelly, the gold-digging woman he's promised to marry, is pregnant with his child.

No matter how much his friends protest his upcoming marriage to Shelly, Cameron knows he has a duty to his children, so he's determined to see it through.

Will he find out in time that Shelly's lying and Marti's the one who's actually carrying his child? It'll come down to the day of his wedding. After choosing Shelly over Marti at every turn, will he convince Marti she's his world and the only woman he wants?

The Right Bride - Book 3: The Right Bride

Shelly will stop at nothing to land a rich and powerful husband. Lies and manipulations mean nothing when you're trying to escape a boring life of normal. She wants extraordinary and millionaire businessman, Cameron Shaw is the perfect catch. Now, all she has to do is reel him in.

Excerpt:

"Shelly swiped the lip gloss wand across her lips, rolled them in and out to smooth out the color, and grinned at herself in the mirror, satisfied with the results. She pushed up her boobs, exposing just enough flesh to draw a man’s attention—and keep it—but still not look too obvious.

“Perfect. He’ll love it.”

Ah, Cameron Shaw. Rich and powerful, sexy as hell, and kind in a way that made it easy to get what she wanted. Exactly the kind of husband she always dreamed about marrying.

Shelly grew up in a nice, middle-class family. Ordinary. She desperately wanted to be anything but ordinary.

She’d grown up a plump youngster and a fat teenager. At fifteen, she resorted to bingeing and purging and starved herself thin. Skinny and beautiful, boys took notice. You can get a guy to do just about anything when you offer them hot sex. By the time she graduated high school, she’d transformed herself into the most popular girl in the class.

Destined to live a glamorous life in a big house with servants and fancy cars and clothes, meeting Cameron in the restaurant had been a coup. Executives and wealthy businessmen frequented the upscale restaurant. She’d gone fishing and landed her perfect catch. Now she needed to hold on and reel in a marriage proposal."

Shelly isn't the only woman in Cameron's life. She's going to have to fight to keep him away from Marti, the woman who caught his eye and possibly stole his heart. Miss Marti Smarty-pants might have a way with Cameron's daughter, Emma, but Shelly's got the wedding planned, the date set, and Cameron on the line. He won't sacrifice the perfect family for his children to have Marti, unless Marti can finally convince him Shelly lied about the baby. Shelly will do anything to keep that from happening.

Review/Giveaway: A Tiger's Claim by Lia Davis

Title: A Tiger's Claim
Series: An Ashwood Falls Novel #1
Author: Lia Davis
Published: March 2013, Fated Desires Publishing
Format: Ebook provided for review
Tour: Yes, Sizzling PR

As the Alpha’s only daughter Shayna Andrews has always been treated like a rare gem, protected like royalty, and she’s suffocating. Her longing to be independent has driven her to sneak out one evening after dinner. After relishing in being able to run free without an escort, she finds herself face-to-face with the enemy, miles from home, and nearly loses her life until a lone wolf comes to her aid.

Travis Hunter’s main objective is to destroy the Onyx Pack—a group of drug using, murdering rogue shifters. His seek-and-destroy plans are put on hold when he rescues a female from a brutal attack. The beautifully exotic tiger shifter, Shayna, stirs a passion he thought died with his long-lost mate.

When Shay’s first heat cycle slams into her, Travis has no choice but to submit to her needs—and his own. But there is always a price to sleeping with the Pack princess. Not only will he have to face her Pack, Shay and Travis will now have to deal with that fact that their mating is beyond a simple night and could have consequences more than either of them had thought. And when Travis finds out Shay wears the enemy’s brand, things will go from bad to worse.

Warning: One alpha female who doesn't take no for an answer, a wolf with more on the line than just his heart, and a combustible attraction that's sure to cause more than one sweaty night.

This is an unusual read for me in the fact that there are some things that didn’t quite click with me as well as others in this story, but I really did enjoy it overall. Does that make sense? Let me see if I can explain…

This is the story of Shayna, and she is an adopted white tiger shifter. Cool, right? I thought so too. She’s been adopted by a leopard shifter family, and the patriarch happens to also be the pack Alpha. Even cooler. So in a way, Shayna is like a princess. That means lots of males in her life looking over her shoulder, and just being protective. That’s all well and good until you want some space, which Shayna does. So she takes off on a run. Heck, who can blame her? Well, that’s until she runs into trouble in the form of some rogue mutant shifters. The way these guys are explained depicts them as kind of gross, in my opinion. They are shifters, but they are stuck in midshift – permanently.

The thing that didn’t quite gel with me is that these guys are the big bad. They’ve got the whole area on alert. It’s a repetitive thing throughout the story. But for the most part, there isn’t really a lot to do with them. A couple fights, a battle… but nothing in any real detail. I really would have liked to see more, because they truly sound like the bad guys – and I just love that. I don’t want to always be able to sympathize and um, be turned on, by the bad guy.

Luckily someone comes to rescue Shayna, and that would be Travis. Well hello single daddy wolfen sexy man! I really liked Travis. Strong and sweet, and Alpha. I swear, you just say Alpha and I begin to drool. Shayna and Travis hit it off pretty well pretty early. I love the “Mine” shifter mentality, and Travis and Shayna don’t disappoint. I also thought it was wicked awesome that he is a wolf, she is a tiger, and her family is leopards. See, we all can get along!

Travis’ daughter, Josie, is a four year old ball of fun. The girl really stole the show at some points, and I found myself caring for this girl quickly and easily. She’s just one addition to this great cast of characters. I really liked Blaine, Shayna’s brother. But I can say that I wish some of these characters had more background. There were times when I felt like I was jumping in the middle of a series, rather than the first book.

Overall this was a light and fun read. There were many elements to this story that I thought were great additions – like magic and inherent powers. I can easily say I am looking forward to seeing more of this series in the future!

Review: This Is W.A.R. by Lisa and Laura Roecker

Title: This Is W.A.R.
Series: No
Authors: Lisa Roecker & Laura Roecker
Published: Expected July 2013, Soho Teen
Format: Edelweiss Galley (Still available!)
Tour: No

This is W.A.R. begins with a victim who can no longer speak for herself, and whose murder blossoms into a call-to-arms. Enter four very different girls, four very different motives to avenge Willa Ames-Rowan, and only one rule to start: Destroy James Gregory and his family at any cost. Willa's initials spell the secret rallying cry that spurs the foursome to pool their considerable resources and deliver their particular brand of vigilante justice. Innocence is lost, battles are won—and the pursuit of the truth ultimately threatens to destroy them all.

This book is not in a genre that I usually read, but I saw it on Edelweiss and the cover instantly drew me in. Seriously, it is just gorgeous. And then I read the blurb, and it felt like something ripped from the stories on Dateline or similar news show, and I was completely interested. In fact, in my head it was kind of narrated in a way like they do on Dateline. But that’s just my own weird personality.

The introduction starts with Willa Ames-Rowan, and she is drowning. She’s not just drowning, she is being murdered, and you are along for the ride in her point of view. It is dark and haunting, and even with that being said, it’s a bit beautiful. The writing will definitely grab you right from that first page.

And then as we move into the book we get sections told in the point of view of four girls, all friends with Willa. We hear from Rose, Lina, Sloane, and Madge (who is also her step-sister). Through them we get to piece together the puzzle of events that led up to this young beauty’s demise. See, Willa was well liked by everyone. At first I thought there must be something wrong; a skeleton of evil under the skin of a princess. But no, she was just one of those rare creatures who thinks of others and befriends them. She saw people’s weaknesses and made them feel like they were something to be proud of. And through the story, you get to know Willa more with every chapter. I know I was as enamored with her as everyone else was.

First we start with Rose. Her mother is an events planner at the country club where everyone basically lives, and her father is a police detective. She is shy and quiet, and not a part of the in crowd at all. But Willa was her friend, and she wants to do by right by her. I really felt her frustration and sadness. She began to evolve through the story, too. Like how they say pink is the new black, or whatever comparison you’d like, I often felt like Rose was the new Willa.

And then you have Lina, the frumpy girl who turned into a beauty. And now she rebels against everything she can, with her platinum hair and tattoo covered skin. She’s only got a few friends, and Willa was one of her very best.

Then you meet Sloane, the Asian girl trying to live up to her parents’ – and everyone else’s expectations. But she has some secrets, just like everyone else in their group. She was shy and quiet, and every once in a while she’d surprise you with something.

And lastly, Madge. She never really grew on me as a person. She’s Willa’s stepsister, and she is the one most hell bent on vengeance. I liked her well enough, but something just seemed a little off, and I just didn’t click with her on a personal level. Even though she wasn’t my favorite, her character practically screamed at you from the pages. She is definitely interesting.

What happens at Hawthorne stays at Hawthorne. It’s attended by the wealthy and privileged. And at the helm is The Captain, who calls the shots, and his heirs, James and Trip. James and Trip are seemingly as bad as they can be, without ever paying the price. They live life the way they want, accountable to no one. And so when one of them is secretly accused of killing Willa, it is swept under the rug. Much like everything else that these boys do. Honestly, I felt both of them were very enigmatic. I did like one more than other, but it’s a secret who!

This story quickly made me feel like I was invested in the story. There were secrets everywhere. The mystery of it all was fantastic. Over and over it’s repeated that Willa is dead. It didn’t feel repetitive, but rather, it felt like it was driving it home. It was a constant reminder of everyone’s grief, and their reason for revenge. There is more than one evil genius in this book, and it’s hard at times to know who is trustworthy and who is not. The characters were fabulous and diverse. The backdrop of the country club was terrific, with lots of skeletons in the closet. If you are a fan of murder mysteries, I think you will definitely enjoy this book.

Review: F814 by Eve Langlais

Title: F814
Series: Cyborgs: More Then Machines, #2
Author: Eve Langlais
Published: April 2012
Format: ebook provided for review
Tour: No

F814 exists to serve the humans until they decide to terminate her. An instinct for survival makes her fight, but when she achieves freedom, she discovers she cannot throw off the chains of habit. Everything changes when another flesh covered droid arrives, a cyborg he calls himself, who teaches her she is more than a machine. Solus hates humanity, and even though he was born as a flawed human, he strives to eradicate all traces of it from his persona-until he meets F814. Meeting and touching her releases something in him. Has him yearning for things he doesn't understand. Makes him long for...affection. Before he can learn to love though, he must first tackle the task of reminding F814 that she is more than the sum of her mechanical parts. But of course, when dealing with an illogical thing like emotions, there is no sure plan for success.

Ok, I read this book a few weeks ago, but haven’t had a chance to review it. So here I am, and I’m so happy I get to share my second experience with Eve’s cyborgs with you! Seriously, I’m really such a shifter fan, but these ‘borgs might easily make me switch teams. If you haven’t read a cyborg book yet, I highly suggest you start with Eve’s. Her ‘borgs are fantastic. You have Joe, from C791, who is kind of like the leader of the group. An Alpha, if you will, although he certainly isn’t alone in that distinction. You can read about Joe in my review of C791 HERE. Then in this book you have Solus, who is… well, he’s complex… an stubborn. And protective. And caring. And wonderful and sexy all at once. He’s the type of man you want to slap silly because of his pigheadedness and then kiss each booboo because you know he’s a man unlike any other.

See, Solus hates humans. Any why shouldn’t he? They’ve done so many very horrible things to him. And not only to him, but all of the cyborgs. He doesn’t trust them, and he wants nothing to do with them. That’s why when he came into his own realization that he was more than just a programmable machine he picked the name Solus, because its nothing like that of the humans. But this story isn’t just about Solus, it’s about F814.

We learned in book one that Chloe was not the only female turned into a cyborg. There were more. F814 is one of those, and her story is an amazing one. First, her name is actually Fiona, but it takes her a moment to realize that. Fiona has been misused and tortured in the very worst of ways. And at first she is controlled by her programming, overridden by it , in fact. But there is a loophole that allows her to lie. And so she does. But that is like trying to plug a hole in the dam with a piece of bubblegum, and its not long before everything busts loose. Her asshole of a supervisor has a surprise coming to him, and it certainly made me happy for it!

What I find very interesting is that in C791, Chloe thought she was human and had to realize she is a cyborg. In F814, Fiona feels she is all android (which is different than a cyborg) and has to realize she has a human side. Two very different sides of the coin. I think the way Eve is flipping these stories around is just fascinating, and I can’t wait to see how the next book, B785, is handled.

This book is full of action, and a lot of realization about who these people are as cyborgs. In a way, they are all constantly learning and being reborn. I mean we have Seth, who is like a ‘borg with swag. He is manipulative in the best of ways, and has a heart the size of Mars. But you also have Aramus who is cranky and grumpy, but will do anything for his friends that are now his family. Every one of these cyborgs has a personality and a history that is often traumatic.

And if you want some steamy cyborg heat, you have nothing to fear! Eve definitely delivers multiple times on that, and every one of the instances are terrific. These cyborgs are more passionate than many humans, that’s for sure. Couple that with an indefinite supply of energy and you are in for a good time!

This series really has it all. So if you like some sci-fi mixed with erotic romance and a bunch of the miscommunication that we all love to see with our leading ladies and gents, I think this is a great series to get into.

So how about it? Have you started this series? How far have you gotten? I’m only two books in, but I am in no way done, myself. So what do you think? Are you ready to cast aside your shifters, your vampires, your rakes, your demons, for a slice of cyborg action?

Blitz/Giveaway: Playing Patience by Tabatha Vargo

Playing Patience
Tabatha Vargo

Sometimes all you need is Patience.

Life’s been hard for Zeke. Being a punching bag for his alcoholic father has turned him into stone. Not even the dodgy trailer park he lives in can scare him. Fighting is his release and sex, drugs, and his guitar bring him peace, but deep down Zeke isn’t quite as hard as he makes himself out to be. When he meets Patience, she finds all his broken pieces and puts him back together, but she’s a ray of light in his shadowed life and the last thing he wants to do is bring her into his dark world. Playing careless is easy, playing the bad guy can be fun, but playing Patience is impossible, especially when she can see right through him.

Zeke isn’t the only one who’s broken, and for the first time, in a long time, Patience feels alive. Her black and white world gets a shot of color when she meets Zeke. He’s unlike anyone she’s ever met with his tattoos, piercings, and blunt honesty. She wants nothing more than to let go and ride the wild side with him, but some wounds never heal and the broken pieces of Patience aren’t so easy to find.

***Warning: this book contains graphic language, sex, and violence. Mature readers only. Not intended for young adult readers.***

She reached up, tucked her hair behind her ear, and bit at her lip like she knew what I was thinking. She closed her eyes and sighed when I ran my thumb across her bottom lip.
“I think I want to kiss you.”
There. I’d said it. It was out there and there was no taking it back. I hadn’t kissed a girl since I was fourteen. Mainly because it felt entirely too personal, but with Patience I wanted to be personal. I wanted to taste her in ways I hadn’t tasted other women, and kissing was the only way I could do that.
Her eyes widened, and her throat bobbed up and down as she swallowed hard. Her breathing accelerated as I gave her a minute to let my words sink it. If she wasn’t okay with being kissed good and hard, I was giving her plenty of time to say so. I had a feeling that once my mouth connected with hers it would take a lot for me to stop.
“I think I want you to kiss me,” she whispered.
I looked down at her sweet mouth and bit at my lip ring. I tilted her head up to meet mine and moved in. I let my lips skim hers and they were every bit as soft as they looked. A tiny noise escaped her mouth and I lost it.
Ahhh!!  That sounds like a great kiss, right??  I chose this excerpt from all the rest because I am a sucker for a good kiss.... no pun intended lol.  There were 4 other excerpts to choose from, so I've got a bit of an idea of how the book goes - and it sounds really good!  It's definitely going on my list.  How about you?  Are you all in?

About The Author....

Tabatha's been writing since she could pick up a pencil. Her first publication was a little poem in her elementary school paper, from that point on she was hooked. When she was a teenager, she traded in her girly magazines for personalized writing notebooks.
At nineteen, she met her own personal prince charming and writing took a back burner for a while. She's now married to that prince and the mother of a beautiful seven-year-old princess/rock star. Once her daughter was born, writing came back into her life, and she finished her very first novel, Wicked Fate, in May of 2009.

Cover Reveal! Blue Lines by Toni Aleo

Opposites do more than just attract in Toni Aleo’s latest Nashville Assassins novel about a very bad boy and the good girl he can’t resist.

The instant Piper Allen sees Erik Titov, she wants him—wants his rock-hard body, sure, but the strength and mystery that lies behind that superstar hockey jock demeanor, too. So when he sidles up to her at a bar and slinks his arm around her waist, she’s lost. What follows is the wildest night of her life . . . followed by inevitable heartbreak the next morning. And then, a few weeks later, a very big surprise: two blue lines on a pregnancy test.

Only a check to the head could make Erik fall for a nice girl like Piper. But since their crazy-sexy night together, he’s been trying to forget about her alluring body by falling into bed with every woman in Nashville, and it’s not working. So when Piper shows up at his house with a baby-bomb to drop, it doesn’t take much for Erik to suggest the nuclear option: marriage. While it’s supposed to be all for show, the second they say “I do,” the ice between them starts to melt into sizzling steam.
Blue Lines
Toni Aleo

About Toni AleoI am a wife, mother, and hopeless romantic.I have been told I have anger issues, but I think it’s cause of my intense love for hockey!I am the biggest Shea Weber fan ever, and can be found during hockey season with my nose pressed against the Bridgestone Arena’s glass, watching my Nashville Predators play! When my nose isn’t pressed against the glass, I enjoy going to my husband and son’s hockey games, my daughters dance competition, hanging with my best friends, taking pictures, and reading the latest romance novel.I love things that sparkle, I love the color pink, and did I mention I love hockey?

I think my reaction when I first saw this cover was to nearly shoot pop out of my nose.  It is beyond fabulous.  And frankly, any man who has a back that beautiful deserves to be the subject of adoration on a book cover!  Definitely going on my TBR, how about you?
