Today I have the awesome pleasure of welcoming author LM Pruitt to the site, and her guest post on a playlist to match her book, Shades of Desire. I see some of my very favorite songs are listed on her list, which makes me very excited! So read on, and let us know your thoughts on this playlist!
Shades of Desire
By L.M. Pruitt
Book 2 Jude Magdalyn Series
All I wanted was a little peace and quiet.
Instead, I've got dead Covenant members and a steady stream of letters from the new guy in town. His beverage of choice? A 2002 Merlot, with a shot or two of powerful virgin blood. On top of that, I'm breaking in a new police liaison, failing at playing matchmaker, and fighting nausea like it's a full time job.Did I forget to mention that I've also got enough girls living at the Crossroads to start my own boarding school?Peace and quiet? Out the window.

The Birth of a Playlist—Kinda, Sorta
L.M. Pruitt
A lot of writers talk about having a playlist for books.
They painstakingly select tracks, the order of said tracks, the tone, feel,
pulse of a soundtrack. For them, creating a playlist is essential to the
writing process.
Me? I can take it or leave it.
Don’t get me wrong, each book I write usually winds up with
a soundtrack. But that’s just it—they all happen super casually and kind of
organically. I’ll just be listening to a song, a lyric will spark a though, and
I’ll make a note to add that song to the list.
For Shades of Desire,
I was pretty all over the place. Take a look below and you’ll see what I mean.
·
Buckcherry,
Crazy Bitch
·
Eminem,
Eight Mile & Love the Way You Lie
·
Rent
Soundtrack, Out Tonight
·
Taylor
Swift, Sparks Fly
·
Kelly
Clarkson, All I Ever Wanted
·

Doors Down, When I’m Gone
That last song is the only constant across every writing
soundtrack. I heard it in a van riding somewhere when I was doing traveling
sales (don’t ask). I fell in love with it—the fatalistic despair, the
acceptance, the plea to “love me when I’m gone.” It appeals to every part of
me—yes, I’m a sap. I’ve embraced it.
And now I’m off to listen to Fiona Apple’s Criminal—which is my current sex scene
theme song. Fun times ahead!
About
the Author:
L.M. Pruitt has been reading and writing for as long
as she can remember. A native of Florida with a love of New Orleans, she has
the uncanny ability to find humor in most things and would probably kill a
plastic plant. She is the author of
the Jude Magdalyn Series as well as New
Moon Rising, featuring Cari Gravier, and Taken, featuring Frankie Post. She is
currently at work on the next book in the Moon Rising series, Harvest Moon
Rising, due out April 2012. Ms. Pruitt makes her home in Florida with two
cats--one smart, the other not so much.
