Guest Post/Giveaway: Finding Summerland by Paige Bleu

Finding Summerland

(The Ameryn Chronicles #1)

After his brothers recent disappearance Wesley Rochester wished he could just fade into obscurity. Searching for closure, he's haunted by visons. Consumed with decoding the messages, he begins turning dangerously deeper inward. Enter an intriguing, 'not quite' human stranger, who mysteriously arrives just as he feels all hope is lost. Together they begin to realize that their destinies are intricately tangled in a drama reaching far beyond the realms of the wold they know. Discovering the secrets plaguing Wesley since childhood are no coincidence, and everything he believes is shattered.

Captivated by her, he must decide between the life he has and the one he'd forgotten.

'Finding Summerland' is like 'Twilight' in the sense that it is a supernatural, coming of age romance—but has a genre bending, metaphysical element and a much deeper rabbit hole. Follow the journey of two star crossed souls as they explore who they are and the ties that bind them. Enter a world intentionally forgotten. A place buried by history, where only the chosen are aware of its existence. A place covenants are made and broken, where myth leads to truth and forbidden love threatens to destroy or be destroyed, becoming just another casualty in their shadow war. The introductory novel in a series of five, called 'The Ameryn Chronicles'—but compelling enough to stand alone—'Finding Summerland' is sure to be savored by anyone craving to stretch the bounds of ordinary imagination, edgy enough to engage readers who enjoy unraveling a mystery, and sweet enough to grab onto the hearts of the romance lovers! Where legends breathe and dreams are alive. A 'trippy' journey to a new reality.

Researching a book like this and fleshing out the characters:

Research for this book was a total blast for me. It probably wasn't even necessary to be truthful, being that this is a fantasy series but I couldn't stop myself! I've always been fascinated by mermaids and aliens. I used to daydream about them when I was little. When the idea for 'Finding Summerland' began unfolding in my head, it was a love story, that part was clear to me (I see things before I write-almost like a movie projector). I already knew the characters personalities and what they looked like. Even the names of the main cast. I had dreams about Wes & Olivia for months before I wrote a single part down. But what drove me to 'The Google' was that certain spark of magic. That unknown element.

So I started my journey searching out anything I could find about Greek mythology. I spent months reading 'myths', which led me to Indian legends, the Annunaki, Mystic traditions, Shamans, Alien's, Secret Societies, Egypt, and finally back to Mermaids. It was a lot of buggy eyed, late nights, with my husband calling me 'a nutter'. But it activated my imagination and gave me exactly what I was looking for. The reasoning behind what made Olivia and Wes special. The things I had already seen inside now made sense.

The characters also have elements of people I love. Each has their own bit of hybridization. There are times when I'm writing, especially dialogues, where I'll actually hear it, like it was coming out of somebody I'm close to's mouth. I try and use that as a reference. Sometimes I'll catch myself and think, 'they wouldn't say it that way', or 'she would be punchier in this situation'. That might sound strange because my characters aren't all exactly human. But they still struggle with emotion and all the rest of the inner demons we all do, so I draw off that.
