Title: First Frost (Mythos Academy #0.5)
Author: Jennifer Estep
Format Read: Kindle ebook, purchased on my own
From Goodreads:
I am Gwen Frost, and I have a Gypsy gift. It's called psychometry - that's a fancy way of saying that I see images in my head and get flashes of other people's memories off almost everything I touch, even guys.
My gift makes me kind of nosy. Okay, okay, maybe a lot nosy--to the point of obsession sometimes. I want to know everything about everyone around me. But even I don't want to know the secrets my friend Paige is hiding or the terrible loss that will send me to a new school - Mythos Academy, where the teachers aren't preparing us for the SATs, but to battle Reapers of Chaos. Now I have no friends and no idea how my gift fits in with all these warrior whiz kids. The only thing I do know is that my life is never, ever going to be the same. . .
This is quite a nice little set up to the Mythos Academy series. I will definitely be adding the rest of the series to my TBR list.
We start with an introduction to Gwen. She's in the bathroom at school watching a friend, Paige stare into the mirror, almost like in a trance...just....staring. Gwen has a psychometry power, and she asks to borrow Paige's hairbrush. What she sees speeds her into a whirlwind of tragedy.
Through a rough series of events Gwen ends up enrolled in Mythos, a school for magical kids.
This very short story packed a huge punch, with much drama and detail packed in nice and neat. You get to know Gwen, you sympathize with her, and you like her. And then you want to read more. Luckily you can, in Touch of Frost, Mythos Academy #1. See you there!
