Happy Wednesday before Thanksgiving (for some of us!).  Yay!  

1)  What are you currently reading?

Right now I am reading The Voice of Waterfalls, by Natasha Salnikova

This is a very interesting book, and I'm having a hard time putting it down.  I'm hoping I can finish it before I go for Thanksgiving dinner at my family's house!  

Inga manages to escape from a "house of terror" where she was held as a captive along with other girls who were kidnapped. She is chased into the woods and runs onto the road, almost falling under the wheels of an approaching car. She thought, it would be better to die that way than to return to her captors. The driver of the car, to her surprise, saves her. He brings her to his house and introduces her to his family: his mother, his father and his younger sister. He gives Inga a key to a separate room and brings her food. She appreciates his help and calls him her knight from the road. All she needs now is a phone to make a call to her mother. Her savior, Alman, says they don't have one in the house. He's also not in a hurry to take her from his house in the woods to the town where she can talk to police. And Inga began to doubt the noble intentions of her savior. After some time she starts to think this house is worse than the one she was imprisoned in before, if that was possible. 

2) What did you recently finish reading?

This weekend I read two books/novellas from Naomi Clark, Ungrateful Dead 

PI Ethan Banning wouldn't normally touch a haunting case. Mostly because he doesn't believe in ghosts. But when Charlie Mullen asks him to spend the night at a supposedly haunted morgue, Ethan figures, why not? He's broke and Charlie's offering double his normal rate, and that's good enough for Ethan.

But when a troublesome ghost really does show up, Ethan realises he's going to need more than a good supply of alcohol to get through the night

and Demonized

PI Ethan Banning is smoking too much, sleeping too little, and hearing voices. One voice, to be exact: the voice of the demon that possessed him on his last case. A voice that urges him to hurt, rape, kill, and Ethan doesn't think he has the strength to ignore it much longer. 

When his latest missing person case turns into a murder investigation, Ethan finds himself fighting not just demonic urges, but black magic, an incubus with a hidden agenda, and a client who just won't pay up. Luckily, Ethan's got a few friends on his side, like Detective Anna Radcliffe, and his trusty dog, Mutt. If Ethan can ignore the demon long enough, he might just solve this case before it kills him.

Sunday Wrap Up 11-20-11

It's the wee hours of the morning here... Ok, its not really.  It's like 7:10am.  But on a Sunday that feels a bit wee.  :)

So this has been a busy few days for Fictional Candy!

I just wrapped up my stop on the tour for For Queen and Country and I've emailed that winner. They will receive a copy of the book, very exciting!

I also have another giveaway happening, my Kids and Parents giveaway   which is going on until November 22, 2011.  I'm pretty excited with how many entries I am receiving for that.  If you haven't entered yet, be sure to get over there soon.  There are TWO prizes there.  One prize is 3 brand new children's books, and the other is 2 brand new Supernanny books.  If you know me, I probably should have read those books, eh? Haha.  Just kidding....maybe.

I've also reviewed a few books this week, and they were all really good!  Seriously, check them out.

• Intricate Entanglement, by Su Halfwerk A horror/dark fiction about a reporter who goes to a mental hospital to ask some questions about a mysterious death.
• Dreaming of the Wolf, by Terry Spear A female bounty hunter after the mob, a werewolf, and a whole lot of action (wink wink).  #8 in the series, but as far as I can tell they all can work as stand alone books.  I know this one did.  This one will be released on Kindle December 1 and print on December 6. 
• Ungrateful Dead, by Naomi Clark A short story about Ethan Banning, whom some of you may have met in Afterlife.  In this case PI Ethan is on his way to a morgue to investigate what appears to be a haunting. This story is #1 in the Ethan Banning Files
• Demonized, by Naomi Clark A novella about PI Ethan, after Afterlife in the timeline. Ethan is dealing with the remains of the cacodaemon left inside him and on the case of a missing girl named Rhian. This story is #2 in the Ethan Banning Files

Next up I am going to start The Voice of Waterfalls, by Natasha Salnikova. A book about a girl who escapes one kidnapping horror story, only to be stuck in another. 

This week I received The Calling in print from Ashley Lynn Willis!!  This was my first author requested review, so you can imagine my excitement at receiving the book in the mail after reading the ebook.  Thank you again, Ashley!

And I won The Killing of Little Shepherds, by Douglas Starr from June at Writing Is A Blessing.  Thank you June!

And I received signed copies of Dark Seeker and Dark Beauty from Taryn Browning .  Thanks Taryn!

Yesterday I took my daughter to our local library book sale.  We made out like thieves.  Just look at all the books we bought!!  And yes, that is Gargoyle in there.  I was so surprised and excited to see that!

Oh, and we are about to get ready to leave, because I won tickets to Barney Live In Concert, Barney's Birthday Bash from Sweeptight.

In this story we meet Ethan Banning, PI from Afterlife.  I know I am not alone in saying that I love Ethan Banning!  He is snarky and can be a bit mean sometimes.  But he is smart and witty, and much better at being a PI than he lets us all believe.   

In this short little intro to all that is Ethan, he’s sitting in a bar drinking when he is approached for a job.  It seems that the morgue is haunted by the ghost of a young woman who was murdered!

Ethan doesn’t believe in all that paranormal stuff (insert snort and giggle from me here) so he doesn’t really want to take this job.  But money is money, and we all need it.  So off he goes with Charlie to investigate.

This is just a short story, I can’t tell you too much without giving it away.  I will just say it is a must read because it is absolutely fabulous, and it serves as a nice little prequel introduction before reading Afterlife (one of the best books I’ve read this year!).  If you like a touch of horror and fright, a bit of snark, something akin to a zombie, and ghosts, then this is the story for you.
