Quintessentially Q continues the excellence that Tears of Tess had (Pepper Winters)

Title: Quintessentially Q
Series: Monsters In The Dark #2
Author: Pepper Winters
Published: December 2013, Createspace
Format: Personal Purchase

“All my life, I battled with the knowledge I was twisted… fucked up to want something so deliciously dark—wrong on so many levels. But then slave fifty-eight entered my world. Hissing, fighting, with a core of iron, she showed me an existence where two wrongs make a right."

Tess is Q’s completely. Q is Tess’s irrevocably. But now, they must learn the boundaries of their unconventional relationship, while Tess seeks vengeance on the men who sold her. Q made a blood-oath to deliver their corpses at Tess’s feet, and that’s just what he’ll do.

He may be a monster, but he’s Tess’s monster.

Monsters In The Dark is easily turning into one of my favorite series.  On Monday I'll have a review for Twisted Together, which is the last book - so I thought I'd better get on the ball and post my review for Quintessentially Q.

Tess and Q.  They are together.  They are going to make their own little fucked up and beautiful relationship work.  Quintessentially Q starts just a few days after Tears of Tess.  Tess and Q are in this little bubble of happiness in the mansion.  But that has to come to an end - work does call.

Horror.  The unthinkable happens.  It's heartbreaking and terrifying and it gave me goosebumps.  As it turns out, the past hasn't disappeared.  It's right there in your fucking face with a needle and it's taking you down with it!

This book continues it's dark exploration of lust, love, hate, and the human psyche.  Tess and Q are more than just two individuals, they are two halves of one soul.  Cheesy?  No.  And the fates dare to tear them apart and I think I actually freaking trembled in fear!  Without giving up spoilers, although you can probably figure it all out, it is amazing.  This book goes to the very depths of hell, and it climbs back out.

He looked like a man robbed of his own wings.  A fallen angel that had no place on earth and fought a daily battle to fit in.

Q, the man, goes through so much in this book.  Yes, Tess does too - but she finds a bit of an escape.  Q doesn't.  He bleeds every single moment.  He's wracked with fear and guilt.  My heart breaks for him. But he is nothing if not inventive and resilient, and I love him even more by the time the book is done.

Tess... Tess changes.  Total shutdown, coping mechanism on high.  I actually disliked her a bit, at times,  because of how much her "coping" hurt Q.   When her past came back and bit them both in the ass, she didn't remain the strong willed fighter that she was in Tears of Tess.  Nope, not at all.  Q had to be a man of titanium to make it through for both of them.

I know this review is incredibly vague.  It's an amazing story that I don't want to ruin for you!!  Dark, sexy, dangerous and lethal... and loving.  This book changed Tess and Q in ways that I'm sure haven't even all presented themselves yet.  You get a close look at each of them, and you hope they can make it through this hurricane of pain. I love this couple and their romance.  It's not for everyone, but it's definitely for them.

Pepper Winters wears many roles. Some of them include writer, reader, sometimes wife. She loves dark, taboo stories that twist with your head. The more tortured the hero, the better, and she constantly thinks up ways to break and fix her characters. Oh, and sex… her books have sex. She loves to travel and has an amazing, fabulous hubby who puts up with her love affair with her book boyfriends. Her debut book Tears of Tess is followed by Quintessentially Q and Twisted Together. You didn’t think Q could stop so soon, did you? Her other two titles, Last Shadow and Broken Chance will be coming soon.
