Who Are Rachel and Kai in WHISPER TO ME

WHISPER TO ME is Rachel’s book in the Between
Breaths series. She’s the friend that many of my readers love to hate, but also
the character most readers asked for a story about.
Three years earlier she suffered a traumatic
brain injury and cheated death. She returns home for the summer at the same
time her childhood friend, Kai, returns from studying abroad in Amsterdam.
Kai is Native American, plays the upright bass,
and has secretly been in love with Rachel since he helped nursed her back to
health. This book is filled with loads of tension, angst, and the thrill of a
forbidden relationship. It’s probably the sexiest of my first three books.
I’ve been asked by many readers whether I have an
idea in my head for Rachel and Kai. And my answer to that is yes! With every
book I write, YES! I’m sure most authors would have the same answer.
Kai is actually loosely based off of an
ex-boyfriend of mine from loooong ago. He’s part Native American, part Dutch
and one hundred percent hot, if I do say so myself. He had long dark hair, medium brown skin, and midnight blue eyes.
Having said that, it’s hard to find Native
American models/book boyfriends. This photo would be one of the closest I’ve
gotten to the picture of Kai in my head. It’s model Donny Lewis and he’s all
kinds of swoon.
Rachel’s background story is closely related to
one experienced by someone very dear to me. She is a beautiful and brave soul
and I dedicated the book to her.
