Primal Attraction by Sydney Somers (Review)

Title: Primal Attraction
Series: Pendragon Gargoyles #2
Author: Sydney Somers
Published: January 2010, Samhain
Format: Ebook received for review
Pages: 116 Pages/Goodreads

He'll stop at nothing to claim her... If she doesn't kill him first.

A lethal huntress, Sorcha lives to track and eliminate rogue immortals-until her latest assignment turns out to be a sexy, gargoyle shape-shifter. From the start she's shaken by the lust his touch awakens inside her. Not only that, but the cat is convinced she's his mate, and for the first time, she's unable to kill her target. Still mourning the loss of his mate, Cale is stunned to find Sorcha alive. Yet the woman he aches to possess doesn't recognize him and is after the only thing that will save his brother-a mystical weapon that will lead to Excalibur. Determined to protect his family and reclaim his mate, Cale ruthlessly takes advantage of Sorcha's one weakness-her desire for him. Desire that could unlock their past...or cause him to lose her all over again.

Warning: Featuring a sarcastic, ass-kicking heroine going toe-to-toe with the stubborn shifter who's dead set on reclaiming his mate. Also contains graphic violence, death-threat foreplay and scorching sex that will make you roll over and purr.

This past weekend I got back into the world of Avalon and gargoyles, and it was great.  Sydney Somers does a fantastic job working through the siblings, and this book focuses on Cale Callaghan.  Now, if you've read any of the series, you know he is the brother who lost his mate nearly a century ago and just hasn't been the same.

Well guess what - that's Sorcha, and she is very much alive.  And to top it all off is that she has no clue who he is, other than her target given to her by the goddess Rhiannon.  But of course Cale recognizes her and doesn't mind a challenge.  So he sets forward to not only make her remember, but to make her love him all over again.  Sorcha definitely feels something different going on here, but she is a bit of a stubborn woman and doesn't want to acknowledge what her heart already knows.

This book was definitely a quick read.  I love Cale to pieces, he is everything I look for in a shifter.  As for Sorcha - I enjoyed her, and I appreciated her own lethal side.  But if I am honest, I still harbor some resentment over the past.  I don't want to do a spoiler here, but let's just say that once all the facts are out, she isn't exactly as innocent in Cale's shattered heart as it would first appear.

This is a really good series with a lot of twists built in to keep you guessing.  That's really good for someone like me, who is just a bit burnt out on shifters.  The intimate times are very sexy, and Sydney Somers can write a kiss that will sear you to the core.  *sigh*  How I love a good kiss!

So yeah, if you haven't checked this series out, I think you should.  I also have it on good authority from some friends of mine that it gets better and better.  I'm excited!!

A born and raised Maritimer, Sydney Somers fell in love with writing when she finished her first story, Jenny and the Glowing Green Mittens. After attempting her first book in high school, she set writing aside to focus on school. While getting her degrees in psychology and education, Sydney tried her hand at journalism between part time jobs before finally returning to her love of writing.

Twenty-five novels and novellas later, Sydney is thrilled to spend her days slaying demons, running with shape-shifter packs and making the people in her head fall wildly in love. When she’s not writing or curled up with a good book, Sydney can be found chasing after her herd of kids, talking her way into a gourmet meal, exterminating rogue dust bunnies or joking about the pending zombie apocalypse. She loves hearing from readers and invites them to contact her anytime.
