Caught Up In You was my first book by Colee Firman. As far as the New Adult genre goes, it was pretty good and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a solid but light read.
The heroine is Brantley, and she is moving from her aunts home to live on her own. Fates align and she finds herself in the perfect apartment that she can just barely afford above the ever-hot Myles. Life is looking up, but when you have been to the very bottom, up is the only way to go. Brantley's past is.... gah, I don't even know how to put it. Tragic isn't enough. She went through a horror most 20 year old girls couldn't even imagine. But she has her head on straight, and she is making a life for herself. She's got some friends, and a good job. Small town life is treating her well. Well, except for Myles.
Myles seems like he is a giant asshole. Brantley and he have several run-ins that lead to cussing and door slamming. Enemies to lovers is being set up perfectly. As for the man, himself, he is gorgeous hot with a checkered past of his own. His is nowhere near what Brantley's is, but they both have their very valid reasons to have their defenses up. Cupid definitely has his work cut out for his little-naked-love-arrow-shooting-butt.
Enemies to lovers is right. And on top of that, there is a ton of bad timing, over and over. While I absolutely loved seeing this couple come together, the anguish that I adore in New Adult was kind of missing. It took place, but not that we got to see. It was always just out of our reach, and we were brought in some time later after the characters had each started to live again. And then something else would happen, and there would be a time cut, and we'd come back to when they were just a bit better. But you know, that could work for some readers. I hear a lot of time that there is just too much angst and anguish in the NA genre (except never for me!), so this format might work well for those readers.
Colee Firman's writing is pretty good. I was able to put myself easily in the characters' places and see the storm, smell the grass being cut, feel the cold water. When Myles and Brantley continually crash into each other's lives, I'm ecstatic. I love seeing them together, and hate seeing them apart. Their story is unique, and that goes a long way. I just wish that some of it was more on the scenic route.
