Gabe is a fireman, and a damn good one. And the day that he hears there is a woman and her child in the building, he thinks nothing of going in to get them. That’s how the book starts, and let me tell you – you think Bella Andre is a romance author, but you read that whole beginning section and you will feel the heat of the fire at your back. She did a fabulous job, I was scared half to death for these people. Aside from being a fireman, Gabe is a good guy. And the woman and her daughter, Megan and Summer, turn his world upside down.
Megan is a single mom, so of course, I love her already. There were instant sparks with her and Gabe, even in the middle of the fire. I really enjoyed watching Megan go from this in control single mom, to this woman who was being swept off her feet and she didn’t even realize it. There were times that her negative attitude toward love kind of brought me down, and she wasn’t alone. Gabe’s did too. I wanted to tell the both of them to take a chance, because love was right there!
Whew. Ok. The heat. Gabe is one sexy as hell Sullivan. I was right when I thought he’d take over Marcus’s place as my favorite. I love how he gets so jealous when he thinks Megan is attracted to one of his brothers. And there were some incredibly sweet and romantic things Gabe did - like a certain picnic. You will have to read it to see, but oh boy, you will see! Ahem. These two have some serious chemistry, and when they get together you feel it right along with them. Every time was this intense explosion, and different from the time before. I loved how these two kept saying they shouldn’t – couldn’t – be together, but they couldn’t keep their hands off each other.
Compelled to be as honest as they'd been in her kitchen after they'd given in to desire for way too short a time, he said, "I want you. And if youw ere anyone else, I wouldn't be leaving right now." Her eyes went wide at the shock of his flat-out admission. "But I already know and like you and Summer well enough to know we can't just sleep together."
"No, " she said quickly, even more breathlessly, "we can't"
Wanting her more with every word they spoke about the hot sex they weren't goign to have, he said, "I'd better go now."
"Yes, " she whispered, "you should go."
But then, instead of leaving, he was reaching out and pulling her against him, his hands on the swell of her hops. "One last kiss."
Bella’s writing is superb. This story is absolutely a five star read. I can’t recommend this series enough. The books do standalone, but I recommend starting from the beginning. Couples from previous stories make their way into each new book, and the cameos give me a little thrill. In fact, I have a suspicion about what might be going on with a previous couple, but I’m going to stay tight lipped about that one. Either way, the Sullivans are quickly rising up on my list of favorite families.
