Twins Sera and Luke Raine have a well-kept secret—she heals with a touch of her hand, he sees the future. All their lives they’ve helped those in need on the sly. They’ve always thought of their abilities as being a gift.
Then Luke has a vision that Sera is killed. That gift they’ve always cherished begins to feel an awful lot like a curse. Because the thing about Luke’s ability? He’s always right. And he can’t do anything about it.
“The children of the Prophecy must die”
Sera and Luke are teenaged twins, although they are very
different from any other kids you know.
They have abilities. Special abilities. Sera can heal and Luke has visions of the
future. Very cool!
Sera often heals people without a second thought, which
lately is beginning to lead them into some trouble. Especially since Luke is having visions that
his sister is killed.
Right away you definitely get a sense of how close these two
kids are. They aren’t two teenagers, its
more like they are each a half of a whole.
I really enjoyed getting to know them, and it was quick and easy to care
about them. And then when you meet the
other people in their lives, you love them even more.
But the thing about their lives is that there are so many
secrets you don’t know what is real.
They don’t even know, themselves, how many secrets there are. They’ve always known they were different, but
they didn’t realize just how different they actually were. It seems that everyone in the supernatural
world is on the hunt for the children of the prophecy. Some want to kill them, some are determined
to save them. But it is very difficult
to tell who is who at times, which in my opinion, really lent itself to the
mystery and excitement of the story.
The first third or so of this story moved kind of slow for
me. There was a lot of facts and
learning about the different characters going on. And really, it worked because by the second
half of the story when the action kicked into high gear I was invested in these
people and their friends. But it was
really interesting how the twins found allies in unlikely people, while those
believed to be trustworthy proved themselves opposite. But such is the way it goes when you deal
with so many secrets.
“Shall she be the first to die, Seer?”
The story focused a little bit more on Sera, but it was Luke
who caught my eye. I felt he had a bit
more of an emotional part in this story.
I mean, afterall, he was seeing visions of his other half dying. There are times I just felt so sad for Luke,
and his desperation was clear. But
then Sera was like this naïve, yet not naïve girl who you just liked. She was friendly and caring, and you don’t
want her to get killed.
