Able to render themselves invisible, immortal Cloak Warriors like Aiden have been protecting humans from the dark power of the Demons of Fear for centuries. But the demons might soon have a powerful tool in their hands to seduce humans to the dark side. And the person to provide them with this elixir is the human scientist Leila. Unbeknownst to her, the drug she’s developing to cure Alzheimer’s has the unexpected side effect of weakening the mind’s resistance to the influence of demons.
The Council of Cloak Warriors is divided, some of them believing the only safe way to eradicate this threat is to eliminate its inventor, others are bent on protecting the human scientist. Aiden is a loyal Cloak Warrior who accepts the assignment to protect her despite his own beliefs that humans can\'t be trusted. However, when her life is endangered, his beliefs shift, and he’s drawn into a battle whose participants are unknown: is he fighting the demons or his fellow Cloak Warriors?
Forbidden desire flares between Aiden and Leila as they are forced to rely on the only people they can trust: each other. And even if he can save her and defeat their enemies, a union between them might be the most dangerous undertaking of all.
Liz’s To Do List:
- Find a Cloak Warrior
- Have Breakfast
- Find that Cloak Warrior!!!!
This is my first book by Tina Folsom, but it is no way going to be my last. This story has it all: paranormal, damsel in need of help, hero who happens to be hot as fire, steamy sex scenes, secrets and treachery, lots of action! My only complaint is that there definitely could have been some more heated scenes, but the kisses between Leila and Aiden make up for it. If there was an award for best kiss, I’m sure these two would be nominated!
Leila is a pharmaceutical scientist, which sounds kind of boring at first. She’s currently working on a drug to cure Alzheimers. She is a workaholic; no friends, little family. The only family she does have are her parents, and they are the reason for her obsessive work ethics. I generally liked Leila, and liked her a lot more as the story went on. She is smart, but definitely human. She makes mistakes when it comes to the man she is falling in love with, but her heart is in the right place. I like to see that in a heroine.
Aiden… *sigh* dreamy Aiden… Oh, sorry, yes, back to the review. Aiden is an immortal, a Cloak Warrior to be exact. He and his people protect humans from demons. Yep, demons! Aiden himself is kind of distant from humans, not liking them very much. He never touches them, never becomes attached. He blames them for tragedy in his past, along with himself. But then he meets Leila on assignment and his world is forever altered. Aiden is wonderful, of course. He is definitely a hero to fall for. Tall, dark, handsome, immortal… sexy as hell.
At first I didn’t think I would like the concept of Cloak Warriors very much. I mean, they are immortals with awesome abilities. I would love to be able to dematerialize or become invisible, but the whole thing didn’t click with me right away. But trust me, it didn’t take long! Maybe it’s the heart that Aiden has, or the camaraderie between all of the members, but they are a definite force to be reckoned with.
“Only a love pure of heart made a union between a Cloak Warrior and a human possible. Aiden didn’t believe such a love existed. Could a Cloak Warrior ever love a creature so inherently weak?”
Despite protecting humans, Aiden generally holds disdain for them. This made for some terrific reading when you see him become so enthralled with Leila. The sparks between them were immediate and fierce. The kisses were the stuff dreams are made of; hot, sensual, and full of unbridled emotion. The sex was out of this world. When these two come together everything else falls to the wayside, and I could easily (and happily) read a whole book of them just getting it on!
But there is a whole other side to this story that is action packed. There is an eternal war between the Cloak Warriors and Demons Of Fear (a name that I didn’t really like, I prefer to just call them demons). And it seems there is a mole in the Cloak Warrior camp. Tina Folsom did a fantastic job of misleading the reader in several directions, leaving us guessing who the traitor was.
