When an Oscar-winning movie star meets a
department-store photographer…
Movie
star Nic Lamoureux appears to have a playboy’s perfect life. But it’s a part he
plays, an act designed to conceal a dark secret he carries on his shoulders.
His empty days and nights are a meaningless blur until he meets the woman who
fulfills all his dreams. She and her son are the family he’s always wanted—if
she can forgive a horrible mistake from his past.
A Hollywood
dream…
Lauren
James, a widowed single mother, earns barely enough money to support herself
and her son. When she wins a photography contest and meets Nic, the man who
stars in all her fantasies, her dreams, both professional and personal, are on
the verge of becoming real. The attraction between Lauren and Nic is
instant—and mutual. Their chemistry burns out of control during a photo shoot
that could put Lauren on the fast track to a lucrative career.
Becomes a
Hollywood nightmare
But
an ill-advised kiss makes front-page news, and the lurid headlines threaten
everything Nic and Lauren have hoped for. Before they know what’s happening,
their relationship is further rocked by an obsessed and cunning stalker who’ll
stop at nothing—not even murder—to have Nic to herself. When Nic falls for
Lauren, the stalker zeroes in on her as the competition.
And
the competition must be eliminated.

I’m excited to be visiting Fictional Candy to celebrate the
launch of my new book Deadly Obsession,
as well as my Virtual Book Tour presented by Bewitching Book Tours. Today, I’m talking
about music and how it helped me write Deadly
Obsession. I’ll also talk about how I incorporated music into the
storyline.
Nic Lamoureux, the hero of Deadly Obsession, is an Oscar-winning movie star. Like most people,
he has a cell phone and enjoys assigning specific ringtones for the people in
his life. At one point, the heroine, Lauren James, speculates as to what
ringtone Nic might have assign her. Although she doesn’t find out in this book,
she does come up with her own choices.
Nic’s Ringtones
I have to admit that I had a lot of fun searching for the
“right” ringtone to assign to the various characters in the book. Let’s see if
you can guess the role of the character based on the ringtone Nic chose for
them. Some are a lot more obvious than others J
·
Lauren – She hopes he picked Savage Garden’s Truly Madly Deeply but thinks he’s picked Depeche Mode’s Photographic
These aren’t mentioned in the book, but here are the rest of the ringtones from Nic’s cell phone.
Jason – SpongeBob SquarePants - Goofy Goober
Lauren – Kings Of Leon - Use Somebody
Kaden – Nickleback – Savin’ Me
RĂ©mi – Habs Fans - Nanana Heyheyhey Goodbye Hopefully, Nic has a better recording, LOL.
Roles: Agent, best friend, bodyguard, girlfriend, girlfriend’s son, home, sister, starlet. Can you match up the roles to the ringtones?
Nic’s Un-official
Theme Song
In order to meet Hollywood’s expectations, Nic and his agent
create Nic The Lover. He’s a smooth-talking flirt who makes women… well, I’ll
talk about Nic’s superpower some other day J
After reading a scene in which Nic and Lauren are having dinner at a
restaurant, one of the writing group members told me she had “the perfect song
for Nic.” The song was about candlelight dinners and wining and dining. I was
skeptical, but after listening to her suggestion, I realized she was right. Shaggy’s Luv me, luv me is the perfect fit for Nic The
Lover. The song makes me smile and I can’t help but to get up and dance!
Stalker Scenes
In order to get into the right mood to write the stalker
scenes, I created an “obsessive love” playlist. Researching this was eye
opening to say the least. I’d never before realized how many songs out there
dealt with this theme, including some top hits. Here are a few examples.
National Stalking
Awareness Month
In Deadly Obsession,
Nic Lamoureux is pursued by a stalker who is unphased by anything, even murder.
But contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to be a celebrity to have a
stalker. In fact, 3.4 million Americans are victims of this crime each year.
The odds are that someone you know has been stalked.
To raise awareness, January 2012 has been named National
Stalking Awareness Month. Throughout the month, I’m blogging about
stalking—types of stalkers and their behaviors, famous cases, and stalking in
popular culture. Please visit my blog (http://blog.kristinecayne.com)
to learn more about this crime and how we can all help its victims.
