Title: Crescendo (Hush, Hush #2)
Author: Becca Fitzpatrick
Format read: Personal Print Copy
Format read: Personal Print Copy
From Goodreads:
Nora Grey's life is still far from perfect. Surviving an attempt on her life wasn't pleasant, but at least she got a guardian angel out of it: a mysterious, magnetic, gorgeous guardian angel. But, despite his role in her life, Patch has been acting anything but angelic. He's more elusive than ever and even worse, he's started spending time with Nora's arch-enemy, Marcie Millar.
Nora would have hardly noticed Scott Parnell, an old family friend who has moved back to town, if Patch hadnt been acting so distant. Even with Scott's totally infuriating attitude Nora finds herself drawn to him - despite her lingering feeling that he's hiding something.
Haunted by images of her murdered father, and questioning whether her nephilim bloodline has anything to do with his death, Nora puts herself increasingly in dangerous situations as she desperately searches for answers. But maybe some things are better left buried, because the truth could destroy everything - and everyone - she trusts

I found Crescendo, the second book of the Hush Hush saga a
little disappointing. The story continues with Nora and Patch’s love story and
the mystery surrounding Nora’s ancestry.
Now that Nora is aware of Patch’s true Nature she must settle into a
relationship with a fallen angel. Even though, the premise of this book is the
same as the previous one, it turns into a story of a teenage girl dealing with
her insecurities. I was used to the Nora
from Hush Hush who was an assertive teenager dealing with the death of her
father, her ancestry and the normal everyday problems. Unfortunately, on this
second part she starts acting jealous of Patch as he develops friendships with
other people.
The story gives more focus to Nora and her relationships
with Vee, her best friend, and Marcie a girl who has made her life hell since
first grade. Following Vee’s dislike of Patch, Nora focuses more on fighting with
him. As Nora’s insecurities surface her
relationship with Patch suffers and it affects the main plot of the story. I
felt like the result of this makes Patch a distant character in the story. Vee
and Marcie both could have grown emotionally as well; however, Vee continues to
act as a careless teenager. Marcie continues to make Nora’s life miserable for
reasons never explained. I never understood the hatred that she has for Nora
and it is never clear on this book.
There are good things in the book too like the introduction
of new characters Scott and Rixon. Scott becomes close to Nora who shares the
same background as him and Rixon is Patch’s best friend, Marcie, although, not
a new character is a central plot for this story as Patch becomes close to
her.
I would have loved for the story to focus more on Patch’s
background and to see his relationship with Nora develop more. Unlike the first
part this one end in a cliffhanger. I’m not a fan of cliffhangers but on this
book it helps to make the whole book worth reading.
Author Bio
Becca Fitzpatrick's first book, Hush, Hush, debuted as a New York Times bestseller. She graduated college with a degree in health, which she promptly abandoned for storytelling. When not writing, she's most likely running, prowling sale racks for shoes, or fulfilling her mission to taste every flavor of ice cream under the sun. She lives in Colorado, the lone girl in a house filled with boys.
