Cover Reveal/Giveaway: Resisting the Bad Boy by Violet Duke

Abby Bartlett is the quintessential nice girl. Between teaching, volunteering, completing her PhD, and helping her best friend raise his daughter, Abby never gets the chance to be anything but nice. That is, until the all-wrong-for-her man she’s only ever known from afar starts daring her to simply take that chance for herself. His sage advice? Try something wild and fast.

Preferably him.

An unbridled, hotshot attorney with a not-so-little black book, Connor Sullivan has earned himself quite the bad boy reputation. But in his defense, he’s a very conscientious one. He knows far too well that sometimes in life, love isn’t enough…or worse, not even a factor at all. To avoid that misery—and repel the drama—Connor always makes his one and only rule crystal clear right from the start. Absolutely nothing more than a month.

Turns out, a whole lot can happen in one month.

***EXCERPT***

“Why you little—”
Connor launched at Abby as she shrieked out in laughter and tried ducking around him to make for the door.  Snatching her around the waist, he hoisted her cackling body over his shoulder and upended her back onto the bed.  “You set me up.”
Now unliddable, her giggles effervesced, giving zero credence to her perfectly scandalized denials.  He trapped her under him and buried his grin against the curve of her neck, feeling disproportionately victorious at the gasp she couldn’t contain when he skimmed his lips over her collarbone.
The woman was getting to him.  This time, when his lips found her soft skin again, it was with purpose.  “You planted that wicked little bag-o-fun there for me to find, admit it.”
She gave an Oscar-worthy gasp at the accusation. “What?  What possible reason would I have had to do that?”
“To drive me up the wall?  Send me bursting through my zipper?”  He nipped at her earlobe playfully.  “Though I guess I should be flattered to be the reason you bought all that stuff.”
The cutest derisive snort he’d ever heard shot out of her like a torpedo with impeccable aim.  “Breaking news, Connor: scientists have in fact discovered that the earth doesn’t revolve around you.  Women buy toys for themselves all the time.”
He nearly bit off his tongue to avoid even thinking about Abby having any sort of toy-based fun.  “I still call foul.  When you and I agreed to this who’ll-beg-first stint, you didn’t say you’d be weaponizing your attacks.”
“Weapons?”  She blinked innocently.  “You make them sound so sinister.  I’d say they’re more like…private tools.  Survival tools, if you will.  For my time here.  Naturally, you were never meant to see them.”
Bull.  Next, you’ll tell me the snowflake masquerading as underwear in that bag is worn strictly for comfort.  Hell, I’ve seen more fabric on the teeny doilies in Skylar’s toy tea sets—”
“Aw, I remember those,” she cut in softly with a smile.  “She used to go on and on about how her ‘bestest Uncle Connor’ hosted the fanciest dress-up tea parties.”
“I wore suits,” he clarified gruffly, “and don’t change the subject.  Why buy sexy lingerie if not to have them be seen?”
By me.  He didn’t have to say it out loud, they were both thinking it.  And his ego was celebrating it.
“Easy access,” she eventually answered, straight-faced.
His imagination went nuts.  Picturing Abby wearing the microscopic scrap of white lace he saw earlier for private ‘easy access’ unhinged him.  He shackled her wrists above her head with one hand and began tickling her ribs.  “Another foul.”
“Stop!” she screeched and dissolved into a breathless puddle of mirth.  “Okay, I admit it!  It was a dirty, dirty foul on my part.  You should definitely take a free throw shot.”
He paused, wondering where she was going with this.
She pointed to the trash can.  “There’s the basket; my new panties can be the ball…since yours are clearly in a twist.”
Incredulous, he dialed up the tickle torture to merciless.
Her squealing ‘I-take-it-backs’ became unintelligible as she wriggled and squirmed and bucked until soon, he was fairly certain he was suffering more than she was.
Breathing hard, he released her wrists and rolled onto his back beside her.  “You’re planning to drive me completely crazy these next few weeks, aren’t you?”
Limbs all akimbo, head dangling off the bed, she heaved between breaths, “Like you wouldn’t believe.”

Nobody Asked Me! Zombie Edition

Well seeing as how this Sunday is the season FINALE of THE WALKING DEAD, I thought I would write a little post about something near and dear to my heart – zombies! ZOMBIES, folks!!!!

If anyone truly knows me, they know I have a fascination with zombies. Books, television, pictures, plans, everything. Hey, it’s not a question of IF, it’s a question of WHEN. And my money is that WHEN is soon!!

I’m not going to lay out my plan for the apoc here, that would be pretty foolish, I think. If you know what I’m going to do, you might show up and reap the benefits of my hard work! Not gonna happen!!

But what is it about zombies? Hmmmm. They aren’t sexy. They aren’t romantic. They don’t smell good. And they definitely don’t whisper sweet nothings in your ear. In fact, if one is trying to whisper in your ear, you should be looking forward to a double tap from the nearest non-zombie around. So why is the world full of zombie mania?

Adrenalin!!

The damned creatures are a real possibility!! Let’s leave out talks of things like bath salts. However, if the government is messing around with things like cloning|gninolc (see, I cloned the word cloning, just cause I can - it's that easy!), don’t you think they are messing around with things like reanimation? How about the simple fact that a neurotoxin epidemic could happen AT ANY TIME and we’d all be screwin’ the pooch (and I mean that figuratively, folks, please leave those pooches alone!)?

So, while I’ve got you here and I’m gnawing on your ear about zombies, let me share some of my favorite zombie books with you!!

First, my very favorite involves a young woman named Kansas. Kansas is all sorts of badass wrapped up in more badass and sprinkled with some “oh hell no!” You can find some posts I’ve done on Kansas here:

Taking on the Dead Series by Annie Walls

COVER REVEAL - CONTROLLING THE DEAD

On top of that, the author, Annie Wells, is super awesome. If you want to have some fun online, seek her out – but not right now, because she is working on Controlling The Dead (the sequel to Taking On The Dead) and I don’t want her to stop! Be sure to check out her site for Bailing Out Into The Dead, Rudy's story - and you do NOT want to miss that!
Annie Wallsr

Next, how about Emily Goodwin and the Contagium series? Holy heck, Orissa is another awesome leading lady taking on the zombie apoc!! I’ve only reviewed one of her books for Fictional Candy, but I’ve read both that are out already – and I’m totally waiting for book three to get released NOW! :)

Here is my review of CONTAGIOUS

CONTAGIUM on Facebook

Emily Goodwin's WEBSITE

Wait, I’m not done yet!! Have you met Sloane from This Is Not A Test by Courtney Summers? This Is Not
A Test is a little bit of a different type of zombie book, there are very few actual zombies in it – but it is a total mind f**k!!! I strongly suggest you check it out.

This Is Not A Test
Courtney Summers

Here is my review of TINAT

Want more? How about Hive by Griffin Hayes? His book was a bit
different, as it takes place in the future and looks back at society now, and what we did to screw it up. Take a hint: Don’t drink the water. His zombies are also able to be centrally controlled by strong zombies. It was a rockin’ good time in his book, and I definitely recommend it! And the cover – AHHHmazing!!

Here is my review of HIVE
And of course, you also need to check out Griffin's website, cause hey, even guys can write about zombies! WEBSITE

So there are some of my favorites. I’ve got a bunch more on the list, but I was actually getting anxious to post some Daryl Dixon visual candy. There’s not a woman alive who doesn’t want this man by her side at the end! Whhhoooooo doggy, break me off a piece of that!

So, how about you? Are you into zombies? Do you think its been overdone, or are you like me and ready for more more more more!!! Do you have any favorite books you could recommend me?

Hey, are you on Pinterest?  Check out my APOCALYPSE board!!  Follow Me on Pinterest

Also, I’ve got another swag giveaway! This one will run until next Wednesday, and I’ll pick a winner on Thursday!
Bookmarks, pens, magnets, trading cards - a great big ol envelope of it. You want it? You got it! Here is a picture of a previous one, and the one you get will be very similar - but not the same!!!

What’s next in the Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series by Felicity Heaton

It’s great to be here at Fictional Candy today for the last post in my Vampirerotique Winter Tour celebrating the series and my latest release, Bewitch.

It’s been an amazing tour and I’ve enjoyed every second of it, and now all that’s left for me to do is talk about the one thing I haven’t mentioned so far. What’s next in the Vampire Erotic Theatre series?

I’ve had so many emails and comments from readers asking whether Unleash was going to be Snow’s book, when it was coming out, and whether this was the end of the Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series.

Before I answer those questions, I think I should introduce you all to the world and the current books in this erotic vampire romance series.

The series is focused on the world of Vampirerotique, a theatre that hosts performances for a vampire-only audience and entertains them with erotic acts between vampires and their human thralls. The theatre is run by four vampires, two of them from elite families, Javier and Callum, and two of them from an aristocrat family, Antoine and his older brother Snow. There are humans who work at the theatre, all of them owned by a vampire master, bonded to them by blood. Humans outside this small circle are unaware of the existence of vampires.

Covet, the first book in the series, introduces readers to the world and to the hero who had the initial idea for the theatre together with his fellow elite, Callum. Javier is a sexy Spanish vampire who has spent the past century running the theatre with the others and lives the life of a bachelor and has little interest in romantic entanglements, until he set eyes on Lilah. Lilah is an owned human, sent to work by her master, and the laws dictate that a vampire cannot touch that which belongs to another without breaking that law, sentencing them to death and paining the human. Javier fights his desire for Lilah for two years, unaware that she’s fighting her feelings too, until fate brings them together in a private box during one of the erotic performances. Covet is the ultimate forbidden love story and it will have you flipping pages at lightning speed so you can find out how it all ends!

Next in the series is Crave. In Crave, we follow Callum to Paris. Callum’s role at the theatre is sourcing performers and he’s come to the
city of love on business, not for pleasure. When he sets eyes on a gorgeous woman in a nightclub, he tries to fight his dark desire for her but resisting her is impossible. His carnal hunger for a woman most vampires would see as an enemy, a hot sassy werewolf named Kristina, will leave you panting for more.

Antoine, the younger aristocrat vampire owner of Vampirerotique (only around a thousand years old), finds himself the target of a calculated and merciless attack on the defences around his heart in Seduce. Sera, a beautiful young elite vampire, has been watching Antoine since she first attended the theatre with her sire and now she is determined to chip away the ice that protects his heart and set him on fire, and she’ll do whatever it takes to gain an audience with him, even get on the stage herself and act out a private performance for his eyes only. Seduce is out now!

Seduce also introduces two new elite vampires, Andreu and Payne.

Andreu, the younger brother of Javier, steps into the world of Vampirerotique bent on learning all he can about it and taking it with him when he leaves to return to Barcelona and start his own erotic theatre. He’s a man who is all business and he’s determined not to fall in love like his foolish brother, but when he finds
himself faced with a challenge in the form of a sexy succubus, Varya, he can’t help feeling that determination isn’t going to save him from a fall after all. Enslave is out now!

The fifth book in the series, Bewitch, sees the reclusive and mysterious elite vampire Payne travel deep into the fae underworld on a mission to help Andreu and Varya. That mission brings him into the presence of a beautiful witch, Elissa, and challenges his perfect self-control as she sets out on her own mission to not only get back something that was taken from her but also bring Payne to his knees. Bewitch is out now!

Book six in the series belongs to the man all hearts have been waiting for if you go by the reviews for Covet, Crave, Seduce, Enslave and Bewitch!

Snow, the older brother of Antoine and a man afflicted with a vicious bloodlust, will be making hearts melt in his story, Unleash. When a woman capable of taming his darkness walks into his bedroom at Vampirerotique, Snow finds himself falling for the enchanting beauty who awakens a fierce protective streak in him. One act of kindness can lead to one thousand acts of sin though, each a black mark against the bearer’s soul and another grain of sand that slips through an hourglass. The clock is ticking and time is almost up. Can beauty save the beast?

Unleash will is due for release in May 2013, and is a full length novel.

It will be the last in the Vampire Erotic Theatre series but it won’t be the last time we visit that world or that theatre. A new series I’m working on, Eternal Mates, is also set in that world of vampires, werewolves, fae, demons, witches and other amazing creatures. The first book in the Eternal Mates series will hit virtual shelves in 2014.

Be sure to follow this fantastic tour to learn more about the passionate heroes, wicked heroines, and life at London’s premier vampire erotic theatre! You can also find yourself in with a chance to win a $100 or $50 Amazon Gift Certificate if you follow the tour. More details, including how to enter and a full list of stops, are available at the Vampirerotique Winter Book Tour page: http://www.felicityheaton.co.uk/vampirerotique-winter-book-tour.php

All of the books so far in the series are available in paperback, and in ebook from Amazon Kindle, Apple iBooks and Kobo. Covet, Crave, Seduce and Enslave are available from Barnes and Noble, and Sony Reader too. Bewitch is also available at Barnes and Noble, and will be at Sony soon. Excerpts are available for all of the current releases in the series, so you can get a taste of these wicked erotic romances.

Hellish Nightmare...

If seventeen-year-old Seth Bradson were to describe his life in two words, those would be the two he’d choose. Seth prefers to cope with his crappy existence by spending his days in a drug-induced haze. But when Ali Carson steps into his life, Seth finds something he’s subconsciously been seeking—a new drug, one that consumes his mind unlike any other.

Love.

In a moment of unforgivable weakness, Seth allows Ali to try crystal meth, his most addictive temptation. This single event begins the unraveling of both their lives and forces Seth to learn the definition of regret the hard way.

This book far exceeded any expectations I had for it. And its not like I had low expectations, either. Jennifer Snyder is a new-to-me author, and I just wasn’t sure how it would go. The blurb sounded great, the subject sounded like it was heavy, I was excited.

This story is told from Seth’s POV, which I thought was completely awesome. For some reason I really dig the teenage boy point of view on things in books. But the thing about Seth is that his words feel genuine, I just want to hang out with him and get to know him more. I can’t even count how many kids I’ve known like Seth in my life, he feels familiar. He’s just so likeable and real, it made me wish this book was a lot longer just cause I liked being around him. I could see how Ali became attracted to him.

And then there is Ali, the new girl in school. She’s light and airy and gives off an innocent feel. She is so accepting of Seth and his not-so-perfect life. The way she just lets him into her life makes me love her. It’s like she came along just when she needed him.

“My heart pounded inside my chest as I gripped the door handle. I stepped out into the blazing hot sun to walk behind my brother and his friend into what felt like the mouth of hell.”

Seth’s brother, Calvin, isn’t a great guy. He isn’t even a good guy. In fact, there isn’t one point in this story where I even felt like I could waiver on that opinion. He bullies Seth, and he is a major asshole. Right off the bat, when I first saw him in the story I thought, “I wouldn’t mind if something happens to this guy…” Family is supposed to stick together, and Calvin acts like Seth is the enemy. Not cool.

I really struggled for a few days on how to write this review without giving spoilers. The story is beyond fantastic. The emotions behind the characters are right there at the surface and ready for you to touch. Sometimes the storyline is light and easy going, like riding in a car with the windows down on a sunny day. Sometimes its dark and… well, dark. This author takes you to a variety of places in a relatively short matter of time, and she does so effortlessly. The story was touching, and I just have to say again how much I fell in love with Seth. The supporting characters were all fabulous, even the very minor ones. They all lent their voice perfectly, and fleshed out this world for me. I felt like I was there; I was smoking that first cigarette of the morning, I was slamming my door to get away from it all, I was finding refuge in someone else’s gaze, and my life was falling apart just when I thought I had it all.

If you don’t read this story, you are making a mistake. It might be hard, there are some very delicate subjects here; drug use, abuse, death, teen angst. But sometimes we have to let our safety net go and just feel the story happen. This is definitely a 5 star read for me.

Jennifer Snyder lives in North Carolina were she spends most of her time writing young adult fiction, reading, and struggling to stay on top of housework. She is an instant coffee lover with an obsession for spiral bound notebooks and smooth writing pens. Jennifer lives with her husband and two children, who endure listening to songs that spur inspiration on repeat and tolerate her love for all paranormal, teenage-targeted TV shows.
