Nobody Asked Me - #3 Tiny Houses and Underground Bunkers, Baby
Well, Sunday arrived again. Thankfully! Tomorrow starts a new work and/or school week for a lot of us, but today is for relaxing. I'll be at home for the majority of the day, I have some cleaning planned... Although that plan doesn't always go on schedule LOL. But that got me to thinking about a movie I watched on Netflix not too long ago about Tiny Homes. It's called Tiny: A Story About Living Small. And while this wasn't my first introduction to tiny houses, I did watch the entire thing, just amazed at the process.

Nobody Asked Me/Giveaway: Childhood Favorites

Ok, Sweet Valley High. Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield (yes, I totally had to just look that up). At the time, these girls were so awesome. One was preppy and one was a bit wild. And every edition had me at the edge of my seat, and totally fed my need for teenage drama. But sadly, other than that, these stories didn't really stick with me. Same with The Babysitter's Club. Cutesy stories, but nothing really memorable in the long run.
That is an easy answer. Christopher Pike. I saved all my money to go to B. Dalton's bookstore in the mall, anxiously looking for a new book. I got rid of most of them as the years went on, but some I kept and they are still some of my most treasured books. Which ones, you ask?
Next on the list, Weekend! Shani, Robin, Park, Flynn, Lena... ok, mostly Shani. That chick was awesome. I used to fancy myself a writer in my teen years, and Shani was inspiration for so many stories that I wrote. Hell, Christopher Pike was an inspiration!
But wait, there's more! How about Slumber Party? I totally flashback to Laura running, trying to get away... finding scorch parks in the snow, freezing to death and thinking, "Why the hell not?" as she pees on her hands to get warm. LOL! The things you remember, right?
But my VERY favorite Christopher Pike book was Remember Me. Shari Cooper: did she commit suicide or was she murdered? This girl was so awesome, I fell in love with her. She was able to go into dreams, like her brother's who dreamed in black and white... but wait, so did Amanda! And Pete holding onto the top of an ice cream truck. *sigh* Good good times.
But there was one more book, possibly lesser known. I still have my tattered copy that I bought from a yard sale. The Grounding Of Group Six by Julian F Thompson. This is the story of six teens whose parents send them to a summer camp of sorts. They kind of figure its a camp for misfit kids when they realize their group is different from everyone elses. So Nat, their camp counsellor type guy, takes them out into the woods for their trip. But the group grows close. And the secret comes out. Their parents aren't going to be there to pick them up when camp is over BECAUSE THEY'VE PAID TO HAVE THEM KILLED!!! OMG seriously, this book was beyond wonderful. I might have to reread it soon :) Nobody Asked Me/Giveaway: Childhood Favorites

Nobody Asked Me! Giveaway/Confession

I started my blog in Septemer, 2011. I didn’t have a CLUE. My first review was a book that I checked out from the library, Deadly Harvest by Heather Graham. BTW, that turned out to be an awesome series, despite my pitiful review. Oh, you want to see it? Here it is! My Review Of Deadly Harvest
And this is where I have a confession to make. My name is Liz, and before I began blogging, I knew nearly nothing about the books I am now obsessed with. For shame!!! But it’s true! Here’s the story. I read the Twilight series, out of boredom more than anything else. But surprise surprise, I loved it! And it ignited a hunger. I began searching out other books similar, but I had a hell of a time. My friend Liz (seriously, her name is Liz, too!) suggested the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Ok, I thought. I looked it up on Amazon and got a boxed set of the first 5 or 6, or whatever. Then it was like an anvil dropped on my head. I loaned my books to my friend, April. Then my mom. Then I bought more of them. Then I was all caught up with that series. Now what??
I went to my library. Another confession: It’d been decades since I’d been to a library. I used to spend hours in the library, so it’s not like I was a stranger. But to find this new genre that I didn’t even know had a name, whether it was Paranormal Romance or Urban Fantasy (ok, I still get sketchy on those distinctions, but that’s for another post) or something else entirely – I didn’t know. The selection was scarce, and that’s when I picked up Heather Graham’s books (and I now buy every book I find of hers, btw). I reviewed them.
Then I got a Kindle. AND THE WORLD CHANGED.

Then I reviewed a book called Jigsaw by Ted Brogden, which was fantastic – but not the genre I was looking for. My friend, Marc, also had just got a Kindle. We were swapping book suggestions back and forth, and he suggested Girl On A Laptop, by Russ Cooper. It was horror, and snarky, and all things wonderful.
But I still sucked at writing reviews.
I tried to review a couple others. And one day I received an email from author Ashley Lynn Willis, who wrote The Calling THIS is the type of book I had been in search of. (That means I want you to read it, and you won’t regret it) She and I went back and forth, talking about ways to promote her book. We did a giveaway on a hop, even. We were both feeling our way around. I still sucked at reviews. In fact, my review of her book left out a major point in the story about the leading lady, Mandy, being a breast cancer survivor. I left out a lot. But then Ashley did something amazing, she started passing my name around.
And the requests began coming in. And more, and more. And then it got to be such a long list that I had to start turning authors away. And I still turn a lot away, but not because I want to, but because I have to.
Blogging has changed my life in so many ways. I’ve been a reader since I was a child (and I have a post about those books coming up in the next few weeks, a throwback to the 80s). But there were many years where I didn’t pick up a book. I got into other things (read: dating…and some other stuff) and my beloved books fell to the wayside. But nowadays I read nearly every day. I lose myself in these worlds with angels, demons, vampires, weres, and more romance and sex than I could ever even hope to have in my own life. And I am so entirely grateful. And on top of it, I get to write about it and interact with other readers who are just as passionate as I am. I can’t tell you how completely awesome that is!
So, to celebrate that, this is my post. A confession of sorts. And a giveaway, cause I love to give things…well, away. :) Thanks for listening to my story!
The swag prize is INTERNATIONAL, as always. I will pick a winner next Thursday!

Nobody Asked Me! Let's Talk Blogging!!

So here I am, once again, blogging by the seat of my pants. A pantser, if you will. In fact, I was supposed to have this post ready to go “live” last night – but I fell asleep on the couch. So now it is roughly 830 am, and I’m working on my post. But this totally brings me to the topic!!
How do you blog? Are you organized and ahead of schedule, or are you praying your internet connection doesn’t go out because you are playing roulette with a deadline?
I have a friend who runs a blog. Her name is Kimberly, and she runs Kimba’s Caffeinated Book Reviews. Perhaps you’ve seen her on my blog before, like when I interviewed her last year ( Kimba's Caffeinated Book Reviews Interview)or as a commenter. Kimberly is…well, she’s a blogger’s fantasy. I hope I’m not “outing” her here, but she is the gold level of what people like me to aspire to. Why? Well let me tell you… Kimberly has a set amount of reviews she takes a month, she leaves room for the things she chooses to read for her personal picks, and get this – she has her posts written and scheduled several months ahead of time!! What the hay stack!?!? Seriously, I don’t know how she does it. I am in awe every time I hear it.
Me? Meh, not so much. If you look up there at my calendar tab, you can see I have a schedule. On my end of it I have it color coded so I can tell where I am in the schedule for each post. Like if I have all my information, I have it coded green. If it’s an interview, I have it red, and if I have it written up and ready to go its greyed out. Do I have ANY greyed out items on my schedule? NOPE. Not a one! Course, you can’t tell, so that’s good for me.
So tell me: How do you blog? And while you are at it, check out those two bloggers and show them some love for all their hard work.
And of course, I’m running a swag giveaway – cause I can rock in my own special way. So enter! Enter now! This one will run until next Wednesday, and I’ll pick a winner on Thursday!
Bookmarks, pens, magnets, trading cards - a great big ol envelope of it. You want it? You got it! Here is a picture of a previous one, and the one you get will be very similar - but not the same!!!

Nobody Asked Me! Zombie Edition

Well seeing as how this Sunday is the season FINALE of THE WALKING DEAD, I thought I would write a little post about something near and dear to my heart – zombies! ZOMBIES, folks!!!!
If anyone truly knows me, they know I have a fascination with zombies. Books, television, pictures, plans, everything. Hey, it’s not a question of IF, it’s a question of WHEN. And my money is that WHEN is soon!!
I’m not going to lay out my plan for the apoc here, that would be pretty foolish, I think. If you know what I’m going to do, you might show up and reap the benefits of my hard work! Not gonna happen!!
But what is it about zombies? Hmmmm. They aren’t sexy. They aren’t romantic. They don’t smell good. And they definitely don’t whisper sweet nothings in your ear. In fact, if one is trying to whisper in your ear, you should be looking forward to a double tap from the nearest non-zombie around. So why is the world full of zombie mania?
Adrenalin!!
The damned creatures are a real possibility!! Let’s leave out talks of things like bath salts. However, if the government is messing around with things like cloning|gninolc (see, I cloned the word cloning, just cause I can - it's that easy!), don’t you think they are messing around with things like reanimation? How about the simple fact that a neurotoxin epidemic could happen AT ANY TIME and we’d all be screwin’ the pooch (and I mean that figuratively, folks, please leave those pooches alone!)?
So, while I’ve got you here and I’m gnawing on your ear about zombies, let me share some of my favorite zombie books with you!!
First, my very favorite involves a young woman named Kansas. Kansas is all sorts of badass wrapped up in more badass and sprinkled with some “oh hell no!” You can find some posts I’ve done on Kansas here:
COVER REVEAL - CONTROLLING THE DEAD
On top of that, the author, Annie Wells, is super awesome. If you want to have some fun online, seek her out – but not right now, because she is working on Controlling The Dead (the sequel to Taking On The Dead) and I don’t want her to stop! Be sure to check out her site for Bailing Out Into The Dead, Rudy's story - and you do NOT want to miss that!
Next, how about Emily Goodwin and the Contagium series? Holy heck, Orissa is another awesome leading lady taking on the zombie apoc!! I’ve only reviewed one of her books for Fictional Candy, but I’ve read both that are out already – and I’m totally waiting for book three to get released NOW! :)Here is my review of CONTAGIOUS
CONTAGIUM on Facebook
Emily Goodwin's WEBSITE
Wait, I’m not done yet!! Have you met Sloane from This Is Not A Test by Courtney Summers? This Is Not A Test is a little bit of a different type of zombie book, there are very few actual zombies in it – but it is a total mind f**k!!! I strongly suggest you check it out.
This Is Not A Test

Here is my review of TINAT

Want more? How about Hive by Griffin Hayes? His book was a bit
different, as it takes place in the future and looks back at society now, and what we did to screw it up. Take a hint: Don’t drink the water. His zombies are also able to be centrally controlled by strong zombies. It was a rockin’ good time in his book, and I definitely recommend it! And the cover – AHHHmazing!!
Here is my review of HIVE
And of course, you also need to check out Griffin's website, cause hey, even guys can write about zombies! WEBSITE
So there are some of my favorites. I’ve got a bunch more on the list, but I was actually getting anxious to post some Daryl Dixon visual candy. There’s not a woman alive who doesn’t want this man by her side at the end! Whhhoooooo doggy, break me off a piece of that!
So, how about you? Are you into zombies? Do you think its been overdone, or are you like me and ready for more more more more!!! Do you have any favorite books you could recommend me?
Hey, are you on Pinterest? Check out my APOCALYPSE board!!
Also, I’ve got another swag giveaway! This one will run until next Wednesday, and I’ll pick a winner on Thursday!
