Guest Blog & Excerpt: Alien Lover by Jessica E Subject

Alien Lover
Jessica E Subject

Unconvinced of her fiancé’s demise, Molly combs the galaxy to search for him. As her supplies run low, she is forced to turn around and set a course for Earth, alone. But, a Moloxian Starcruiser halts her retreat, and the single passenger transports onto her ship without permission. Taser in hand to defend herself, she is startled as the form remolds into her fiancé. Has Diego found her or is her tired mind playing tricks?

Young Space Pilot Set to Launch into Space in Search of New Life
Thank you so much, Liz, for having me on your blog! Hello everyone!
I’ve brought along Diego de Sella from Alien Lover, who is about to leave for his first official mission with the Space Service. Diego, can you tell us the purpose of your mission.
Diego [with a curious grin]: I’m not exactly sure how the title Alien Lover relates to my mission. I must be missing something. But I will be flying further into space than we have ever gone before, searching for new life.
How long is your mission scheduled to last?
Diego: I will be gone for approximately one Earth year, possibly longer, depending on the success of the mission.
How will you determine if you mission is a success?
Diego: If I find alien life, of course.
Are you worried you may come across hostile alien life?
Diego [his expression serious]: That is always a risk, but we have protocol in place for that.
Why are you being sent into space alone and not with a team?
Diego: The Space Service believes we will be seen as less hostile this way.
What will you miss the most while you are gone?
Diego [his grin returns as he taps his fingers against the chair]: My fiancé, Molly. We will be married upon my return.
You look anxious to leave, so I will let you go. I wish you much success on your mission, and a speedy return.
Diego nods: Thank you. [He leaves the room.]
Thank you again for having us, Liz!

“Incoming message,” the computer chimed. “Source located one nautical mile away, starboard.”
She brushed her hands across the console and brought the video feed from the ship’s right hand side onscreen. The image quivered, and she groaned when it finally became clear. A Moloxian starcruiser.
Shit! I just want to go home. During her search, the crews of the few Moloxian scavenger ships she’d come across had been willing to let her pass if she traded with them. But she had nothing left, only enough food and fuel to reach Earth, and even then she’d be hungry during the last leg of her journey.
“Play.” She decided to listen to their demands, give them what they wanted, and move on. She had no other choice. Starvation was a better alternative than providing the sexual services they’d always hinted at. The Moloxians, though humanoid, had scale-covered bodies. So incompatible with her own. She wouldn’t survive unscathed and didn’t sleep around anyway.
“Prepare to be boarded.” The deep computerized voice shook her. No slur, and therefore not Moloxian. Who the hell was he?
She didn’t have time to contemplate. Her blood boiling, she gripped the arms of her chair. The creature, whatever species he happened to be, planned to come onto her ship. No one boarded without her permission, which she would not grant. At the sound of her transporter, like the pitter-patter of rain on Earth, she leaped from her seat and spun around. She grasped her bolt stunner and pointed it at the figure materializing into solid form before her eyes.
With a huge outline, the male boarding her ship would only bring her trouble. If his strength matched his size, she had one option: to kill him. She took in his bare, broad chest, sculpted abs, and muscled arms. His tanned skin shone with brilliance, as if the sun rested behind him. She gazed up at his dark hair and warm brown eyes. He studied her with an intense stare while his soft lips curved into a smile.
She gasped. “Diego?”

The Zurian Child Playlist

Thank you so much, Liz, for hosting me on your blog today!

There are many things which inspire me while I’m writing, but I would have to say the biggest influence is the music I listen to. Not only does a single song spin many new ideas in my head, but it can also convey the mood I am looking to create in my own story.

So here are ten songs from my playlist for The Zurian Child:
Untouched by The Veronicas http://youtu.be/ykW4rtW2eu0
This Love by The Veronicas http://youtu.be/sW1vIg8JYjY
I Could Get Used to This by The Veronicas http://youtu.be/ILLW66JjHko
I’m Yours by Jason Mraz http://youtu.be/EkHTsc9PU2A
Afraid by Nelly Furtado http://youtu.be/7yo8IqaFcjw
Spaceman by Bif Naked http://youtu.be/7saoB6rLxYY
Breathless by The Corrs http://youtu.be/2eBkXXSbwlE
Wicked by Econoline Crush http://youtu.be/_7QcdX99YDk
Men In Black by Will Smith http://youtu.be/rRuHk6Drj2U
Before You by Chantal Kreviazuk http://youtu.be/XGCgdCl1gPk

So, that’s my list. Keep in mind I started writing this story a few years ago, so none of these songs are recent. They still have a lot of meaning to specific scenes in the story though.

The song Wicked by Econoline Crush helped to inspire this scene:

She waited until the sun had set before driving to the address he'd given her. She met the other alien—Jack—repulsed being in their presence. They said they wanted her to know the truth before she and Reid rekindled their relationship. While her husband left to use the washroom, the gray-haired alien left to gather information for her to read. There would be no discussion. She spiked their drinks with a small amount of the black liquid.

When they returned, she leaned forward in an attempt to look receptive to everything they had to say while watching the aliens drink their coffee. She would pull this off. They had to die.

Reid did most of the talking, so Jack drank his coffee faster. Jack started to twitch, his wrinkled face turning a sickly green color. A few seconds later, his eyes rolled back into his head. Oblivious, Reid kept talking until Jack choked on the foam spilling out of his mouth. By then he couldn't be saved.

As Reid brought his hands to his throat, his eyes met hers. "How could you?"

Beside him, Jack slumped over, already dead.

Isabel stood up and spun away from Reid as he thrashed on the couch, his hands clutching his neck. Only a couple of minutes passed before he ceased moving, black foam covering his face. She could no longer see his once tender eyes. A pang of guilt made her stumble, but the memories of the child she once carried renewed her focus. I have to do this.

Not wanting to leave fingerprints on the aliens, she checked for signs of life with a rubber glove. Finding no pulse from either of them, she snatched the papers from Jack's hand and the glass she had drank from. After pulling on a black hoody and making sure no snoopy neighbors had their eyes on the house, she left her husband and his friend without a backward glance. Three blocks down the street and around the corner, she found her car.
