I wasn’t given a choice. Not when I did my first line of cocaine. Not when I became a single mother. But I changed, and every decision I’ve made was to protect myself and my son from my weaknesses—and my past.
Until Jude came along and made me question everything, even my own secrets.
The sins I carry with me can never be discovered. Life handed me broken bits of people and left me to construct my own world, and it’s too fragile to take a chance on Jude Mercer.
We write our own stories.
We build our own prisons.
We weave our own lies.
We commit the sins that bind us.
One of my favorite tropes in romance is the single mom finding love theme. I love it. So when I saw The Sins That Bind Us, I was totally in. Within these pages I fell in love with Faith and Jude, and definitely fell in love with their story.
This was my first book from author Geneva Lee, and I thought she did a fantastic job. I instantly felt like I was a part of this world. Even with parts of the book in flashback, I never felt lost like sometimes can happen. Her writing was smooth and felt fast paced.
So Faith is our heroine. Single mom to a little boy, Max. Max is completely deaf, which makes me fall in love with Faith even more. I can only imagine the struggles she's had to go through navigating through this world as a young woman, and a mom. But she is a sweetheart, and so is Max, so it's only a testament to her, especially seeing her past of heavy drug use.
Then one day she meets Jude and suddenly he is right there, all the time. It feels like he has secrets (he does!) but you can tell he is a sincere and honest man. And the way he instantly takes to Faith and Max, you can't help but fall for him. He's there for them when Faith doesn't even ask, and that goes a long way.
But as it turns out, Faith has secrets too. Big ones. And oh man - it was so awesome seeing it all come out. I mean, I kind of thought it was coming. But I'm the type of person where I don't really try to figure it all out as I'm going. I try to take each page as it comes and enjoy the moment. So when the shit hits the fan, I felt just as swept up as everyone in the book.
Really, it's a great story. The characters are all very vivid and right there in front of you. The drama is top notch, and the secrets make it worth the ride. And hey, let's not forget the heat and kisses. That's in there, too. And seeing as how it is a standalone, you aren't making a big commitment to a series. I'd definitely give it a whirl if I were you.
Geneva Lee prefers fantasy to reality, especially fantasies involving powerful, dangerous, and sexy men. You can find her devouring a good romance while avoiding the laundry and the children. She lives in Kansas City with her family.
