Review/Giveaway: Silver: Acheron by Keira Michelle Telford

Title: Silver: Acheron (A River Of Pain)
Series: Silver #1
Author: Keira Michelle Telford
Published: November 2011 Venatic Press
Format: Ebook provided for review
Tour: Yes, FMB Author Promotions

2342 CE Dishonorably discharged from the Hunter Division and banished for crimes she did not commit, Silver struggles to come to terms with her new prison-like surroundings: a segregated area of the city called the Fringe District, populated by murderers, thieves and rapists. Starving, and desperate for money, she reluctantly accepts the Police Division's invitation to enroll in a covert Bounty Hunter program: an initiative devised to infiltrate the criminal underworld of the Fringers, and to force the very worst warrant dodging law-breakers to meet their fate—death. Unfortunately, Silver doesn't realize that the Police Division is about to up the ante. They need more than little snippets of information and arrests—they need someone to pull the trigger. They need an executioner.

Wow, what a crazy book!!  I wasn't sure how I was going to like this book, its not my usual genres.  In fact, I think its largely classified as science fiction, although I didn't even think of that classification until I saw it had been done.  But I totally agree.  It took place in like a post apocalyptic, dystopian, sci-fi futuristic world.

So its several hundred years away from now.  This woman, Silver, is a basically a hunter for the government.  She hunts Chimera which are these disgusting evolutionized (ahem, new word) monsters, evolved from humans.  Hunched, grey and leathery, fully on instinct, these dead creatures are used for everything from food to their tears for antiseptic.  Then one day while out hunting she finds a girl, neither fully human nor chimera, and she rescues her.  This costs her her freedom. She is banished to the Fringe, which is full of crime, poverty, and drugs.  Definitely not a nice place.

But Silver is tough.  I like her.  She's not just strong, but tough. She's got this hard exterior, I mean, she killed these monsters and was really good at it. But she's also got this soft inside, the part that cares for this girl, whom names herself Alice.  I like how resourceful Silver is, and she gets under my skin.

The rest of the cast is very colorful, and I'm very much looking forward to reading more about them in upcoming books.  I'm dieing to know what has happened with her boyfriend after she got banished.  I want to see what happens with Luka, a childhood friend who now is on the police force in the Fringe.  Heck, I'm even concerned about Maydevine, her adoptive father.

And Alice, who seems every bit the sleeper agent to me.  Is she a hybrid?  Whats the deal with her?  This girl has me raising all sorts of questions that I can't wait to read the answers to.

This book is very dark and gritty, and more than a bit grotesque.  Seriously, don't eat while you are reading. There was more than a couple scenes that had my throat clenching, threatening my gag reflex.  It was awesome! I mean it, seriously!  If a story can cause such a physical reaction, you know you are on to something good.  And the scenery in this book was just crazy.  Violence rules, and its a whole new world.  Only the strongest survive in the Fringe. I had a hard time picturing when it was daylight out, it was so dismal there that I felt like it just had to always be nighttime, even though I know differently.

This was an excellent story, a great deviation from the norm. This author has a great way with words, and I'm excited to read the next in the series.  But now you get a chance too!  Below is a tour wide giveaway for two print copies, but I also have an individual giveaway for an ebook!  You'd better hop onto this one while you can, I definitely think its a gem :)

Review/Giveaway: Stranded Temptation by April Angel

Title: Stranded Temptation
Series: No
Author: April Angel
Published: December 2012, Etopia Press
Format: Ebook provided for review
Tour: Yes, FMB Author Promotions

Stranded together, their passions will run wild.

Kara has a deep dislike for her boss, Max. She also wants him so badly it’s making her nuts. He’s a workaholic, a robot man. And he’s never shown the least bit of interest in her or anything else that wasn’t recorded in the corporate minutes. But when their plane crashes on the way to a meeting, leaving them stranded on a deserted island…just the two of them, all alone with all that ocean around them…Kara decides it’s time to start living. And by living, she means using Max for all the hot sex she’s been denied.

Max wants Kara—has wanted her for a long time. Unable to come out and cross the line between professional and personal, he makes her accompany him on business trips just to have her around. When they crash land and Kara shows him how much she wants him, he decides to quit being so professional and take the woman of his dreams. After all, what happens in the middle of nowhere, stays in the middle of nowhere. Until they’re rescued.

Back in the real world, things aren’t as easy. Kara is afraid to start a relationship with a man who completely ignored her until she took off her clothes, and Max is afraid she’ll never be able to trust him. But when someone makes it clear that Kara’s in danger, Max has more to protect than Kara’s feelings. And now that he has her, he’s not about to let her go.

Mmmmmm. Sizzle. Pop. Burn. Ooooh. Max and Kara light up the pages and incinerate them. These two make me want to get on a plane and make a crash landing. They make me want to rush headlong into danger and come out with the everlasting gobstopper of romances!

Ok, that was weird. But seriously, these two… wowza! I’ve read one other book by April Angel, Mr. Buff, and so I was pretty excited about Stranded Temptation. And now I am completely convinced that I am joining the fan-girl club of this author. She can write a scene to burn your pants off!

When two people who fantasize about each other regularly go on a business trip together to a very exotic location, what do you expect to happen? Well, that doesn’t happen in this book!! At least not in the way you think, and I loved that. Right away there is a huge adrenalin rush, then hotness and sexiness abound. But then there are feelings and all of that greatness that comes with it!

This book had a lot of action and danger, it was a great mix.

“Good luck trying to get out of his sexy claws. When Max Richards sinks them into someone, there’s no way of getting out.”

Max is that type of man I love. When he gets what he wants, he holds on tight. He doesn’t let her fears and insecurities about what has happened get in the way. And that was terrific.

I think if you want a quick read that will get you revved up in multiple ways, this would be an awesome choice for you. Heck, I might read it again real soon!
