Title: Ink & Lies

From International Best Selling Romance Novelist, Hope Hughes, comes a gripping, heartfelt tale of two lovers, fighting for the freedom to…

No. Scratch that. Too cheesy.

…two people, torn apart by the tumultuous tides of life, only to discover refuge in…

WTF? What does that even mean? DELETE.

…two people, confused as shit as to where they should be and who they should love and none of this means a damn thing because it’s all lies!
Lies.
I’m not Hope Hughes. I’m not some fierce woman romance machine. Hell, I’m not even a woman.
I’m a liar.
And while I refuse to believe my own BS, deceit masked in heartfelt phrases of love and devotion, I want to make herbelieve them. Because maybe—just maybe—if she can find the soul within my words, she’ll also be able to find the truth scribbled on my heart.
You see, I once lived for the perfect plot twist.
I just never expected to actually live it.
This is my story. Well, maybe her story. I just wish I could make it our story.
The one I’m still writing.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book.  SL Jennings wrote a story that felt different, full of romance, angst, and even humor. Based on this book alone, I would definitely pick up other titles of hers to read.

First thing that's a bit unusual is that this book is almost completely written in August's POV.  August is an author, a very well published author.  The only thing is, he's published under a woman's pen name, and so almost no one knows he is actually rich and kind of famous.  August also has a best friend, Fiona.  Fiona knows, thank goodness.  I don't think I could handle it if his best friend didn't know.  What is funny is that from the very start, you can feel what August is too thick to know. He's in love with Fi.

Otherwise, August is sort of a man-whore.  And when his dreams of love don't come to fruition with Fi, he becomes and even worse man-whore.  An asshole of a man-whore.  But you know what, and this is hard to accomplish, even though he is behaving in the most despicable ways, I still felt for him.  I felt his pain through his actions.

As for Fi, she's been his best friend since college.  So it's a bit of a friends-to-lovers story, with a few bumps in the road.  One of those bumps is a man named Joshua.  I won't tell you the funny things about this douchebag, but let me say - this book contained a scene which would normally fall under horrifying.  But, SL Jennings managed to take something and managed to make it hilarious.

That's something else I loved about this book.  There was some humor.  A bit of it was dark at times.  But it's there.  And romance.  And sadness.  And angst.  I mean, it has all the emotions.  Now, this wasn't a story that made me do an ugly cry, but it was a good story.  I fell into August's world within Spokane. And I fell in love with all the main characters.  So yeah, definitely worth the read!
