Ok, so when I read this book I didn't realize it was number two in a series. In fact, I didn't realize til just now. So if you have any questions about whether you can jump right in, the answer is yes. If you have any questions about whether you should jump in, the answer is hell yes.
This is my first book from author Marquita Valentine, and I know I want more. She developed these characters so well - I was beyond impressed. Forbidden love, opposites attract, falling for the bad boy... whatever you call it, she did it well.
Piper is awesome. She's this retro girl who is from the rich side of town, but she doesn't act like money is the decision maker through her life. She is a regular person, and she doesn't seem fake at all. That's why everyone loves her. Turns out that Jase loves her, too. It's been a secret, but it's also been a secret that she loves him, too. Those secrets are about to come out.
Jase is a bad boy. He went to prison for a while. Without looking it up to verify, I want to say seven years. Don't quote me on that. Either way, he is out, and he is trying to rebuild his life. Circumstances bring Piper to being his roommate in his giant inherited house, and things heat up right away.
I love this world. Valentine definitely put out the feels - in all different directions. I can't believe I just said the feels, but there ya have it. This is a heck of a romance, and I definitely am considering going backward to read Rowan and Seth's story.
So yeah - give it a try. See if you like retro Piper and bad boy Jase. I know I did. I'm definitely keeping my eye out on this author.
