Tough Enough by M Leighton (Review)

Title: Tough Enough
Series: Tall, Dark and Dangerous #2
Author: M Leighton
Released: November 3, 2015 - Berkley
Format: EGalley
Pages: 336 per Goodreads

He’s a fighter who never loses, but is he tough enough to win her heart?

There was a time when I had everything–a wonderful family, a bright future. Love. But all that was taken away in a single night, torn from me like flesh from bone. Since then, I’ve hidden away in my second-choice job as a makeup artist. But I prefer it that way, actually. I’m comfortable in the shadows, where no one can see my scars.

Kiefer Rogan literally took my breath away the moment I met him. MMA champion-turned-actor, notorious playboy, charming to a fault—he’s everything I vowed to avoid.

But he just wouldn’t stop until I opened up and let him in. Maybe I should’ve tried harder to resist him. Maybe I shouldn’t have fallen in love with him. Because I, of all people, know that everyone has secrets. Scars. And that they’re usually ugly and painful and destructive to the people we love most.

I just never guessed that they could be deadly, too.

Where Strong Enough was a brute force hit full of excitement, Tough Enough travels more on the emotional side and deals with some very sensitive subjects.  Tough Enough has cemented that this is a series to watch.  M Leighton smashes it again.

So we met Rogan in Strong Enough, he was one of Jasper's team mates in their special ops military team.  Once the group went their seperate ways, Rogan went to MMA.  And now he is doing some acting.  That puts him right in the path of Katie, who is a make up artist.  First of all, hello - I love a good hot MMA guy, no doubt.  But a little lesser known, is I *love* make up artists.  Specifically those who do big make ups like monsters and creatures, etc.  But it really got me excited to see that side of Katie.

These two are a great match.  See, Rogan has some abuse in his history.  It's left him some horrible scars that he can't hide from Katie (because she needs to cover them for the movie set).  But Katie has a bigger secret than that, and it involves scars too.  I won't spoil that secret for you, but suffice it to say - your heart will bleed red for her.  And once you are done bleeding, you will want revenge.  The beautiful thing is that these two heal each other, and protect each other.  Their love grows through the book.  It doesn't hit you like a sledgehammer, like Jasper and Muse's in book one, but more like a tickle that turns into head to toe touching.

There are angry ex's in Tough Enough, on both sides.  And neither of them will stop at anything.  It's like these people have no freaking filter or sense of morality at all.  And while they think it will drive the couple apart, it does the opposite.

I loved this story.  I love this series.  Next up is Tag's book, I believe.  I'm pretty excited for that, because he is definitely a smart ass, and I just love a mouthy man!

I lick the blood from her lip as the last of my control slips through my fingers.  "I will destroy you, too," I confess, guilt and desire and reluctance fueling me.

As if to prove my point, my sick twisted point, I crush my mouth to hers, grinding out lips together, forcing her to open for me.  When I taste the inside of her mouth, the submission there, my blood ignites.  Suddenly, I can't get enough of her, of her unconditional acceptance of the black beast that lives deep within me.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author M. Leighton is a native of Ohio. She relocated to the warmer climates of the South, where she can be near the water all summer and miss the snow all winter. Possessed of an overactive imagination from early in her childhood, Michelle finally found an acceptable outlet for her fantastical visions: literary fiction. Having written over a dozen novels, these days Michelle enjoys letting her mind wander to more romantic settings with sexy Southern guys, much like the one she married and the ones you’ll find in her latest books. When her thoughts aren’t roaming in that direction, she’ll be riding horses, swimming in ponds and experiencing life on a ranch, all without leaving the cozy comfort of her office.
