I really love horror books, and it's been a bit of a road to find my way back to them from the world of romance. Something I love even more is female horror authors - when written right. And that would definitely be Catherine Cavendish.
Dark Avenging Angel is summed up pretty well in the blurb, so there is not much need to go into that. You really get to see the spectrum of Jane's life throughout this book. And what I find really great is that even though it is roughly 150 pages, at no point did I ever feel like something was glossed over. This author just has a way with words, and when she brings you into her scary world, you are happy to be there!
Jane starts out as a child, and you see her highs - which are far and few between, and her lows - which are many. You can't help but feel for this child and the pain which she endures, and watches her mother endure, often in her place. If it were me, and an avenging angel came to support me, I would definitely be saying yes. Unfortunately for Jane, she was young and naive enough to not think to ask questions. (which probably wouldn't even been allowed, actually!)
Jane's entire life is a rollercoaster. Just when you think things are better, and you can exhale and be happy for her, something might happen. The angel will show up, and you know it's getting deep. Catherine Cavendish did a fabulous job of making me like who I am supposed to, dislike who I'm not - and cheer when I need to. This book definitely has some frightening elements, and even some are a bit gruesome at times. It's a wonderful thing to watch Jane's life evolve from that of a child, to that of an adult, and feel everything right along with her. I'd definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a scarier read!
